.SHORT TERM...Today through Tuesday night. Upper ridge over the
area with southerly flow aloft. Satellite shows mid level clouds
and moisture are spreading north into the forecast area. Dew
points are up 5-10 degrees from yesterday. Plenty of instability
later today with high temperatures in the 90s to 105. Models
continue to indicate a weak short wave moving through later. This
will likely result in thunderstorms over central Oregon in the
afternoon spreading north across the Columbia basin in the
evening. Some indications that a second round of showers and
storms are possible overnight. Little change to the pattern Monday
and Tuesday. Upper ridge with southwesterly flow aloft.
Temperatures will remain hot with highs in the 90s to 105.
Moisture and instability with occasional weak short waves moving
through will bring showers and thunderstorms each day.
.LONG TERM...Wednesday through Sunday...Ridge continues to
weaken its grip over the region Wednesday into Thursday as the
offshore trough/low creep towards the coast. Surface front expected
to push across Wed. This could help fire off more showers/storms
across the eastern mountains, exp Wallowas, as it interacts with
moisture lifting north along the western periphery of the ridge. It
will also bring a cooler temps with a nice onshore push (highs in
the mid 80s to mid 90s). RH levels will still be low which could
lead to fire weather concerns as winds will become breezy behind the
front. Thursday should still be cooler as but with lighter winds
highs mid 80s to lower 90s). Continue dry but maybe a touch warmer
for Friday (upper 80s to upper 90s). Models differ a bit for next
weekend, but general trend is for CWA to still be under dry
southwest flow in between ridging to our east and troughing
offshore. Expect continued temps in the mid 80s to mid 90s, possibly
cooler as some guidance suggests another frontal passage Friday
night into Saturday with a few showers possible across the Cascades.
Also expect typical afternoon breezy conditions through the Cascade
gaps into the Basin.

.AVIATION...12Z TAFs...VFR conditions expected through the
period. Increasing mid to high level moisture will continue to
stream in from the south, leading to sct-bkn AOA 12kft for BDN/RDM
by around midday and then the other terminals by late
afternoon/evening. In addition, isolated to scattered high based
showers/storms expected to develop this afternoon over central OR
and spread north and east through the evening. Best potential will
be at BDN/RDM and DLS. Stronger activity could produce gusty
outflow/downdraft winds and small hail. Winds will generally be less
than 10kts, but could be a bit higher at BDN/RDM during the
afternoon and of course ahead and near the showers/storms as they
spread north and east. Smoke for multiple fires over central/western
OR and NorCal could lead to hazy skies and possibly some vis
reductions at BDN/RDM and DLS, but overall confidence was not high
enough to include in tafs.
