.SYNOPSIS...
Rain will scatter this evening but return in force later Saturday
as low pressure advances on the region bringing gusty wind as well.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM SATURDAY MORNING/...
Changes for the eve update included the addition of scattered to
isolated showers for areas that previously were forecast to go
precip-free. These are in response to continued shortwave-impulse
activity in southwest flow aloft. The main precip area will remain
west, and north of the immediate where the frontal zone is focusing
the copious moisture return.

Previous...
Anomalously deep warm, moist air continues to advect into the region
in strong southwest flow ahead of the main trough. Rain will remain
steady over the next several hours on the NW fringe of the PBZ
forecast area as this plume of deep moisture continues to interact
with the aforementioned frontal zone, with more discontinuous
showers in the warm sector of the system from Pittsburgh southward.
Rainfall rates are low enough such that widespread flooding should
not be an issue.

Ridging across the eastern CONUS will amplify tonight in response to
the aforementioned trough as it digs into the Mississippi Valley. As
this happens, large scale ascent will become displaced to our north
and west, which should give much of the forecast area a lull in the
widespread precipitation overnight and into tomorrow morning.

Temperature will then remain near steady overnight such that
overnight lows 25 to 30 degrees above the climatological mean.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
By Saturday morning the aforementioned trough will be digging across
the mid-Mississippi Valley. Deep southwest flow will continue to
bring warm, moist air into the region. Temperatures will approach
record values Saturday as values rise well into the 60s and lower
70s.

As the low advances northeast, precipitation will gradually move
across the CWA from west to east. Convection-allowing models suggest
a line of moderate to heavy rain along the cold front boundary as it
crosses Saturday evening. Given some instability, thunderstorms
embedded in the line of showers may be possible, however, even in the
absence of any thunder or lightning strong winds are expected with
FROPA as stronger winds aloft mix down to the surface.

Post-frontal winds will remain strong late Saturday night into
Sunday morning. Gusts 30 to 35kts should be prevalent with possible
advisory level winds along the southeast ridges.

Shortwave ridging will move across the area by Sunday morning as the
low departs, bringing an end to the rain by dawn Sunday. 50 knot
wind at 850mb within a well-mixed boundary layer will allow for
strong gusts through the first half of Sunday. Pressure gradient
will decrease by the latter half of the day, such that wind speeds
will decrease substantially.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
A shortwave trough embedded within southwest flow will clip the area
on Monday and bring somewhat cooler air to the region, but
displacement from strongest lift and lack of moisture will inhibit
precipitation. Southwest flow and warm advection will then resume
Tuesday. Another trough crossing the region and large-scale ascent
will aid in some light precipitation through the second after of the
day.

Temperatures Sunday through Wednesday will be well-above January
average, with highs in the upper 40s and 50s and lows in the 30s and
40s.

The next chance for widespread rain will late Wednesday into early
Thursday as a low pressure system ejects northeast from the high
plains. Light snow will then be possible on the back end of the
system as cold advection and northwest flow ensues on the back-end
of the low.

.AVIATION /06Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Mainly VFR with isolated showers west of PIT is expected to continue
overnight along the periphery of large scale ridging. Low level wind
shear will remain a concern throughout the period, as 40-50 knots of
flow will continue to sit atop a relatively stable boundary layer.
Steeper low level lapse rates will generate surface wind gusts of
20-35 knots by Saturday afternoon.

A line of moderate to heavy rain with possible thunder and strong
winds will impact the area Saturday evening with cold frontal
passage. A brief period of MVFR/IFR restrictions is expected along
the front, with lifting to VFR just after the TAF period.

.Outlook...
Surface wind gusts of 30-40 knots may accompany and follow FROPA.
