A Winter Storm Warning will be issued with this package.

Showers and thunderstorms continue to move northeast across
north Texas and southern and eastern Oklahoma. KFDR has been
showing an increase in reflectivity near the Red River Valley as
well. We have also be getting reports of drizzle along Interstate
40 in far western Oklahoma from precipitation too shallow to see
on radar. The surface freezing line extends from northwest into
west central Oklahoma, so we do have the potential of some
freezing drizzle in west central Oklahoma. It may not be out of
the question later this morning in northwestern Oklahoma as well,
but low-level air is a bit drier so it would take a little while
to develop precipitation to the surface up there. Will keep a
mention of freezing drizzle or drizzle across the north and west,
with higher pops farther east with the areas of rain and showers.

Now for the fun. On water vapor, we can see the shortwave digging
into the base of the longwave trough in the west, with some energy
also pivoting out of the base of the trough enhancing cloud tops
across northern Sonora, northern Chihuahua and even into New
Mexico. The primary shortwave will pivot around the base and move
toward the southern Plains tonight and tomorrow. Precipitation
will begin to spread into the southwest this evening and become
widespread overnight. Initially it will start off as rain in some
areas of the south and central where low levels are initially
above freezing, but will transition to mainly snow as cold air
advection continues overnight. There is some potential of sleet
in the central and southern portions of the forecast area with a
warm layer aloft that cools a bit slower than the lower levels.
But any sleet during this transition time should not persist too
long.

Overall, the snow forecast is pretty similar to previous
forecasts with the axis of heaviest snow currently forecast to be
from roughly Vernon to Duncan to Shawnee, but this axis could
shift a little bit northwest or southeast from this current
forecast depending on where the banding sets up. Frontogenesis is
forecast maximizing early Wednesday morning especially in the
850-800 mb layer, but the placement of this frontogenesis and
ageostrophic response to this frontogenesis enhancing lift is
still somewhat uncertain at this point. But even if the axis
shifts somewhat, there is a high enough chance that some of these
areas will see 4 or more inches of snow that we will upgrade a
portion of the watch to a warning this morning. We will not
upgrade the entire area where we are currently forecasting 4 plus
inches of snow given the potential for some shift in the axis, but
will let the day shift expand the warning as needed (and shift
some of the watch to an advisory) based on the 12Z model runs.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday through Monday)
Issued at 322 AM CST Tue Feb 4 2020

Generally, a gradual warm up is expected for the end of the week
into the weekend. However, temperatures will be affected at least
Thursday and possibly Friday by snow on the ground. The snow
will slow this warm up, especially in locations that receive the
heaviest amounts. Models show a shortwave moving across the
central/southern Plains that may produce some light precipitation in
parts of the fa Friday night. However, there may not be enough
moisture for this to occur so will keep forecast dry for now.

Models show an trough moving south and a closed low eventually
developing along the CA coast late this weekend into early next
week. Some light rain could develop Monday due to some WAA and any
disturbances moving through the flow. The upper system is expected
to move east moving across the region towards the middle of next
week although models differ with the timing of this system. A cold
front is also expected to move across the region early next week
although the airmass behind this front will not be as cold as what
will affect the region over the next couple of days. With the upper
system approaching and moving across the region and the front moving
across the area, precipitation chances will continue across at least
portions of the fa for at least the first half of next week.

A cold front from near KMLC-KADH-SE/KSPS will continue to advance
southeast overnight and tomorrow. Low clouds behind the front are
expected to remain over the region through the period. Patches of
drizzle may occur overnight into Tuesday morning, but timing,
location, and intensity are all in question. Toward the end of
the period (late Tuesday evening), an area of snow is expected to
expand northeast from west Texas into southwest Oklahoma and
vicinity. A few patches of light snow are also possible early
Tuesday in northwest Oklahoma.

are expected, especially in the heaviest band of snow.

.Wind Chills...
Cold wind chills are expected Tuesday night into Wednesday with
single digit values possible in parts of western Oklahoma and
values in the teens across much of the rest of the area.

.Thunderstorms...
A few thunderstorms could be possible in parts of south central
