.SYNOPSIS...
The next broad threat of snow arrives Wednesday night and persist
into Thursday. Widespread moderate to heavy snow accumulations
are expected across north central Washington into the North Idaho
Panhandle. Yet another system Friday night into Saturday may bring
another round of light snow.

.DISCUSSION...
Evening update: Made some updates to the forecast including a
Winter Storm Watch for the East Slopes of the Cascades, Okanogan
Valley, Okanogan Highlands, and NE Washington Mountains for the
second and stronger system set to arrive first in the Cascades
Wednesday afternoon and then across the remainder of northern
Washington and the Idaho Panhande late afternoon into Wednesday
night. Latest 00z deterministic models show a 997mb low off the
northern Oregon coast rapidly deepening to around 976 mb Wednesday
afternoon off the Washington coast with a moist frontal boundary
tracking into the region. The increased moisture combined with
strong low level isentropic ascent as the warm moist air overrides
very cold air in place will produce moderate to heavy snow along
the East Slopes and northern valleys/mountains. Most valleys
within these areas will have the potential to pick up 5 to 10
inches. The Wenatchee area and Waterville Plateau were a tougher
call with a larger spread in guidance so opted to not include in
watch at this time. But confidence is high that snow will occur,
with currently around 4-5 inches in the forecast from Wednesday
afternoon through Wednesday night. With this deep of a low
southeast winds will be on the increase for the palouse and West
Plains with concerns of increased drifting snow threat.
For tonight...made some adjustments to low temperatures mainly to
lower areas that had evening clearing where temperatures in some
places dropped to around 0F including Davenport, Almira, and
Winthrop. Although in many of these areas where temperatures were
lowered thickening clouds overnight will bring rising
temperatures. The Winter Weather Advisory for the East Slopes of
the Cascades tonight looks on track as a fast moving system brings
moderate snow to areas mainly near the Cascade crest. Meanwhile
cold north winds continue down the Okanogan Valley but not as
strong as last night. Still wind chills around -10F in Omak
results in a continuation of a wind chill advisory. JW

06Z TAFS: Overnight boundary layer winds will increase out of the
south and then southeast which will eventually advect the stratus
towards MWH/EAT while clearing out PUW/KLWS first this evening and
then GEG/KSFF/KCOE Wednesday morning. Concerning snow, areas of
very light snow or flurries will linger for areas under the stratus.
Wednesday afternoon the next system will spread snow into the
Cascades including KEAT with strong lift expected to produce a
period of moderate snow at times 23z Wed-03z Thu. Snow will then
spread east into the evening. There is a large spread in guidance
regarding snow intensity at KGEG/KSFF/KCOE with low confidence in
degree of restrictions. JW
