.SYNOPSIS...
Rain and snow showers will continue across portions of Eastern
Washington and North Idaho today with light additional
accumulations possible. Another strong winter storm system is
expected on Sunday with some moderate to heavy accumulations
expected. Cold arctic air moves into the area on Monday, with
very cold temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday. More snow is
possible next week, but lighter compared to this weekend.

.DISCUSSION...
Some impressive snowfall totals are coming in this morning with
Spokane International Airport picking up 7 inches in the last 24
hours. North and east of the city, even higher totals were
observed as colder air was a bit slower to erode under the warm
southwesterly flow. Clayton, Hayden, and Clagstone all picked up
around a foot of snow while a few showers still exist across our
area this morning. With temperatures hovering near freezing in our
lower elevations, we are seeing a mixed bag in terms of precip
which will limit snowfall accumulations across our lower
elevations this afternoon. Colder air trapped in the northern
Purcell Trench this morning has prompted us to lower snow levels
in the area, but guidance suggests that even these locations will
eventually work their way up to freezing today.
Our next system is still on track to arrive on Sunday although
snow showers across our mountains will likely continue until then,
albeit lighter. Lower elevation temperatures for our Sunday
system still look to hover around freezing and could limit snow
amounts for elevations around 2000 ft and below. We will be taking
a closer look at this in our afternoon package. Wilson

12Z TAFS: KMWH will see persistent low stratus and patchy fog as
boundary layer remains moist. Confidence is low with exact
details and timing of breakup of fog. Widespread light
precipitation is occurring across Ern WA and N ID. The flow
pattern is favorable for low MVFR stratus while widespread light
to moderate snow falls across NE WA and N ID. Temperatures
hovering near freezing will likely produce -sn or -snra with
little additional accumulation for the airports except maybe COE
and PUW where they could see 1-2" sn.
