.SYNOPSIS...
Areas of low cloud, fog, and flurries may linger for the rest of
tonight. A more active weather pattern arrives Thursday night and
into next week, with heavy mountain snow and a mix of rain and
snow in the lowlands. There is increasing confidence of very windy
conditions for Saturday for portions of Washington. Another round
of mountain snow with a mix of valley rain and snow is expected
Sunday night into Monday. Drier weather with a warming trend
Tuesday into Wednesday.

.DISCUSSION...
Today: The day will start off with the last bit of dry conditions in
the region before an active winter weather pattern begins. The first
system approaches the coast bringing early afternoon snow to the
Cascades. Moving into the early evening, the the chances for
widespread precipitation progresses eastward into the remainder
of the region. Overnight snow accumulations in the lowlands and
valleys are looking light, likely less than 1-2". Precipitation in
the Basin will remain light rain. Tonight's light snow may impact
morning commutes, but shouldn't last long. Temperatures will warm
into 40s by mid-day bringing rain to the lower elevations. The
warming trend begins with seasonal highs in the upper 30s and 40s
for the next few days.
...A WINTER STORM TO BRING MODERATE TO HEAVY MOUNTAIN SNOW AND
STRONG WINDS FOR FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY...
Friday and Saturday: A low pressure system makes it's way into the
Pacific northwest on Friday. With this system brings wet, wintery
precipitation and blustery winds to part of the Inland Northwest. My
confidence has backed off slightly due to the changes between
previous snow amounts and winds. This will be an impactful low, but
the track continues to vary between models and previous runs.
WINDS: The winds will pick up overnight Friday into Saturday
morning. Overall, the wind speeds have backed off with gusts not
looking as strong as they were looking in earlier model runs.
Moderate confidence in the strengths, but locations of the strongest
winds continues to remain in the Palouse to Pomeroy, the Blue
Mountains, and the I-90 corridor from Moses Lake to Ritzville.
Otherwise, breezy conditions in the region. Some locations have
winds borderline Wind Advisory criteria, but not enough confidence
issue any highlights. We will wait for the next model run(s) for
more or less support to issue an advisory. Saturday morning lows
will be in the 20s to low 30s and with these winds, the wind chills
may be low.
SNOW & RAIN: There is confidence that there will be moderate to
heavy mountain snow, especially in the Cascades, northeastern WA
mountains, and Idaho Panhandle mountains. The snow amounts varied
from the previous runs. Currently, the Cascade Crest and central ID
mountains will receive the greatest snow accumulations with over a
foot from Friday afternoon into Saturday. This incoming system may
may impact on travel, especially the mountain passes and Friday
night commute. A majority of the low lands and valleys will receive
a rain/snow mix or rain. JS
Saturday night through Thursday: The weather pattern remains quite
active and unsettled through the extended period. Temperatures are
expected to trend above normal with highs in the mid 40s to low
50s by the beginning of the work week.
The bulk of preciptiation from the Friday night storm has moved
out of the area by Saturday night, with chances of precipitation
lingering through the night into Sunday. The next system is
expected to push through the area beginning Sunday night.
Additional snow accumulations are expected for the mountainous
regions of the Cascades and NE WA and N ID. Snow levels Sunday
night look to be low enough for snow accumulations in the
northern mountain valleys. This combined with abundant moisture
may warrant winter weather highlights. Models are suggesting that
this system will be a bit warmer than the previous systems, so
there is potential for snow in these valley locations to
transition over to a rain/snow mix or all rain by the late
afternoon hours. Precipitation across the Columbia Basin into the
Spokane area may also start as snow overnight before transitioning
to all rain in the late morning or early afternoon. Chances for
precipitation look to decrease Tuesday night into Wednesday
before another shot of precipitation moves into the area Wednesday
afternoon into Thursday. With temperatures ranging in the 40s and
50s during the work week, rain will be the predominate
precipitation type for areas below 4000 ft elevation. VMT

12Z TAFS: Some patchy surface fog and associated low clouds may
form in locations free of the cloud cover this morning, but this
is with low confidence. A weather system is expected to spread
some low clouds and snow over the aviation area tonight starting
sometime in the 00-06Z Friday interval. MVFR/IFR ceilings and
visibilities with the snow is expected to prevail for an interval
