.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure remains well offshore today. A warm front will then
pass through on Tuesday, followed by a strong cold front late in
the day. High pressure will follow briefly on Wednesday, then
pass offshore on Thursday as low pressure approaches from the
south and west. The low will redevelop along the coast on Friday
and exit Friday night. Another storm system will quickly follow
for the second half of the weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Lowered high temperature forecast by a couple of degrees with
this update. We'll still have to deal with plenty of mid and
high level clouds at the start of this afternoon before clouds
thin out more later in the day. High temperatures mostly in the
50s.

Clear skies and light winds tonight should result in temps
dropping into the 40s in/outside NYC, and into the 30s inland
and across eastern Long Island. Issued frost advy for E Suffolk
and coastal SE CT where frost and widespread mid 30s temps
expected, though there could be some warming late as winds veer
S and WAA begins ahead of an approaching warm front.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
A vigorous negatively tilted upper trough will drop into the
Northeast on Tuesday. Showers and possibly a tstm should become
fairly widespread from west to east from late morning into
early afternoon as a warm front passes through, followed quickly
by a strong cold front mid to late afternoon. The cold front
should be preceded by gusty S-SW winds along the coast, gusting
to 40 mph across Long Island, and accompanied by a band of
showers and a few tstms in a low CAPE but high shear environment
that we have seen a couple of times already in the Northeast
this spring and that have outperformed usual expectations in
terms of severe wx, so could see stronger storms produce
damaging winds, especially with with 0-3km shear oriented normal
to the line, ideal for bowing segments, possibly some hail as
well.

The front should sweep east by early Tue evening, with brisk
NW winds and CAA dropping temps into the 30s in the NYC metro
area, and along the immediate coast, and into the upper 20s
inland. A wind advy may eventually be needed for parts of the
area (mainly metro/coastal areas) Tue night, also freeze
watches/warnings for inland sections. Cool/brisk conds expected
for Wed with temps rising only to the upper 40s to mid 50s.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
By Wednesday night winds will diminish, but temperatures will
still average below normal with inland locations flirting with
the freezing mark once again for Thursday morning lows.

The next storm system will then approach from the west and southwest
for later Thursday and Thursday night. The current thinking is that
much of the day on Thursday will remain dry as high pressure pushes
further offshore. A weakening and stalled front boundary will get
closer to interior northwestern sections during the day on Thursday,
thus a slight chance of a few light showers seems prudent. But the
main rain event will hold off for much of the day, with chances of
rain increasing late in the day, and especially into the evening.
The storm system will begin to take on a double barrel structure
during late Thursday night as low pressure redevelops and emerges off
the Mid Atlantic coast on Friday. This should could lead to a second
area of steady rainfall to emerge, especially closer to the coast
during the day on Friday. By Friday evening much of the guidance is
now quicker and suggest the system pushes away to the northeast for
Friday night, with perhaps just a few lingering showers.

There are questions concerning the first half of next weekend, and
whether high pressure northwest of the region and build in enough to
keep most of the day on Saturday dry. The global model consensus has
low pressure approaching again, not much unlike its predecessor for
Saturday night into Sunday. So for now, it appears the first half of
the weekend will be the better half. Although the global
guidance was suggesting an inverted trough set up along the
eastern seaboard by Saturday night which could train moisture
northward sooner that expected by late in the day on Saturday.
Temperatures overall throughout the forecast period will average
below normal for this time of the year.

.AVIATION /18Z MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...

...Gusty Winds and Strong Convection Likely on Tuesday...

A strong cold front over the Great Lakes tonight will move
through the terminals Tuesday afternoon.

Manly VFR through tonight with MVFR conditions developing
during the morning. Ceilings could be more on the occasional
side, especially from NYC north and west. Potential for a line
of strong convection to move through the area from 18Z to 21Z
Tuesday.

N-NE winds around 10 kt will diminish late and possibly become
onshore just before 00Z at the coastal terminals. Elsewhere,
winds will likely become light and variable this evening with
a strengthening southerly flow toward daybreak. Southerly gusts
of 20 to 30 kt develop after 12Z, followed by WNW gusts up to
40 kt following an afternoon cold frontal passage.

.OUTLOOK FOR 18Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY...
.Tuesday Afternoon...Showers likely and a chance of strong
thunderstorms from 18Z to 21Z. WNW gusts 30 to 40 kt following a
cold frontal passage.
.Tuesday night-Wednesday...VFR. NW winds gusts 30-40 kt early,
diminishing to 25-30 kt.
.Thursday...Mainly VFR during the day, MVFR or lower with rain
developing late afternoon into the night.
.Friday...IFR or lower in rain in the morning, improving to VFR
in the afternoon.
.Saturday...Mainly VFR. Chance of rain late.

.MARINE...
SCA remains in effect through tonight on the eastern ocean
waters, but trimmed it back to today only W of Fire Island
Inlet, with seas lingering in the 3-5 ft range and NE winds
gusting to 25 kt as offshore low pressure passes to the SE.

Winds veer S tonight ahead of a potent frontal system, with at
least SCA conds on all waters. Issued a gale watch for the
ocean and the Long Island south shore bays, as S-SW pre-frontal
flow daytime Tue could gust to 35 kt, followed by NW flow at
the same speeds Tue night after a cold frontal passage. These
winds could last into Wed out east and on some of the nearshore
waters.

For Wednesday night conditions will gradually settle below SCA
levels from W to E. A return flow will get established during
Thursday as S flow gradually increases. By Thursday night
marginal SCA conditions are expected out on the ocean. SCA
conditions will be more likely by Friday as low pressure
approaches.
