.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure continues to move off the Carolina coast overnight
as a cold front and separate low pressure system approach, and
pass through on Saturday. Fair weather is then expected to
settle in through the middle of next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
For this update mainly adjusted winds up just a touch along with
a slight adjustment to the hourly database into the early
morning with temps and dewpoints. Otherwise, the forecast was
unchanged.

High pressure off the Carolina coast will slowly drift out to
sea overnight. Clouds will continue to thicken ahead of an
approaching cold front from the NW and low pressure moving
through the lower MS Valley. Even the most progressive models
keep the forecast area dry through the overnight, so
maintaining a dry forecast.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH 6 PM SATURDAY/...
A cold front approaches in association with a longwave trough
and embedded shortwave over the Great Lakes. Some moisture from
a southern stream system gets drawn in at onset of phasing
between the northern and southern streams. There's reasonably
good agreement among models that rain chances begin in the
afternoon and focused more toward the NW half of the forecast
area. SW winds will help push high temperatures a few degrees
above normal in spite of cloudy conditions. Rain chances then
increase throughout Friday night as both cold front and low
center begin to converge toward the Northeast. Rain should be
mostly light in intensity, but could be moderate late at night.
Thermal profiles even in the coldest spots would support
precipitation in the form of rain through the night.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
There is a lot of uncertainty with the the storm sys for Sat.
The 12Z models all suggested that deepening low pres would track
just south and east of the area, passing near Cape Cod about
00Z Sun. Even this consensus has been short lived however, as
the 18Z NAM has come in significantly south of this clustering.

What is relatively certain is that with a lack of cold air in
place, any snow will be on the back side of the sys. The 12Z
runs of the GFS, NAM and ECMWF all supported this notion, but
still temps are marginal at best if looking at the raw model sfc
data and guidance. With a deepening low and nly component flow
locking in however, temps in the column should support snow as
they wet bulb. The models in fact all show the h925 to h7 layer
cooling to blw freezing in the deformation zone, even down to
the coast.

BL temps will be toughest near the coast, especially LI with
flow off the water. Elsewhere, without any onshore component, it
seems likely that the cooling would be sufficient to support a
changeover during the day on Sat. This is what the fcst
indicates.

A few inches has been fcst for the interior, with the higher
elevations of wrn CT to NE NJ favored. Lesser amounts south and east
of this area. Snow graphics and snow probs have been uploaded to the
web.

Beyond Sat, a relatively quite period of cool wx is modeled. There
could be a chance for a light pcpn even due to an active polar jet,
but right now the probs per the NBM were too low to include pcpn in
the fcst.

.AVIATION /06Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
High pressure continues to moves off the Carolina coast
overnight as a frontal system approaches. The frontal system
slowly approaches during Friday. Developing low pressure over
the Carolinas Friday evening tracks to the northeast.

VFR is expected through most of Friday, with MVFR conditions
possible by 21Z to 23Z, mainly north and west of New York City.
MVFR to IFR conditions develop Friday evening with light rain.

Winds SW 5-10 kt, around 10 kt at the New York City metro
terminals, overnight through Friday. Winds become light and
variable Friday evening.

 ...NY Metro (KEWR/KLGA/KJFK/KTEB) TAF Uncertainty...

No unscheduled amendments expected through Friday morning. There
remains some uncertainty as to the timing of a frontal system
moving into the terminals Friday afternoon and amendments will
be possible as conditions may lower earlier than forecast.

.OUTLOOK FOR 06Z SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY...
.Late Friday night...IFR to MVFR with light rain.
.Saturday...IFR conditions in rain. LIFR possible. Rain/snow
mix possible in the afternoon and evening, especially away from
the immediate coast. N-NE winds 15-20 kt with gusts 25-35 kt.
.Saturday Night...Becoming VFR with rain and/or snow ending early.
NW winds 10-15 kt with gusts 25-30 kt possible.
.Sunday...Becoming VFR with NW gusts 20-35 kt.
.Monday-Tuesday...Mainly VFR.

.MARINE...
WSW winds will average around 15 kt sustained tonight, with gusts on
most of the ocean waters around 25 kt. Will keep the ocean waters
west of Fire Island Inlet out of the SCA, as seas should stay just
below 5 ft, and any gusts to 25 kt are more likely to be only
occasional. Winds then diminish slightly on Friday, then weaken
further Friday night. The SCA on the ocean east of Fire Island Inlet
has been extended through Friday night as seas are likely to average
5 ft or more during this period with a better fetch and swell more
of a factor.

A gale watch has been issued for Sat and Sat ngt as low pres deepens
and tracks near Cape Cod. A sca will likely be needed on Sun, then
all areas fall blw sca lvls on Mon and remain blw criteria thru
Tue.

.HYDROLOGY...
1.50 to 2.25 inches of rain is expected late Friday through
Saturday evening. The heaviest rainfall is expected Saturday
morning. Minor urban and poor drainage flooding is possible, as
well as minor flooding along quick responding streams and
already swollen larger stem rivers.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for southern Connecticut,
northeast New Jersey and southeast New York.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday.

Deepening low pressure is expected to pass south of Long Island
Saturday, and east of Cape Cod Saturday night. The storm will
produce locally heavy rain at the onset, which could produce minor
urban and poor drainage flooding, and potentially minor flooding
along a few quick responding stream and already swollen rivers.

As the storm intensifies and tracks east of the area, the rain may
transition to wet snow before ending. A few inches of heavy wet
snowfall will be possible, primarily north and west of New York City.

In addition to the heavy precipitation, strong northeast winds will
gust to around 45 mph at times Saturday and Saturday evening. This
will also present potential for minor coastal impacts with the
Saturday morning high tides.
