.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will move off the northeast coast tonight. A
frontal system approaches Sunday, with its strong cold front
moving through Sunday evening. This will be followed by a couple
of weaker cold front moving through Monday and Monday night.
High pressure then builds in on Tuesday and remains in control
through the middle of the week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
Clouds continue to overspread the area. Expect temperatures to
remain nearly steady or slowly rise through the remainder of the
overnight. Otherwise the forecast remains on track.

Shifted later with precipitation and made it light rain and
drizzle after noting forecast soundings showing a lot of dry
air in the -10 to -30 degrees C layer. Saturation just focused
near 4-6 kft tonight according to the soundings. Later timing of
precip also in agreement with latest HRRR.

Models in good agreement with an amplifying northern stream
shortwave diving into the northern plains this afternoon and phasing
with the southern stream jet tonight into Sunday. This will result
in a phased and deep closed low developing over the Great Lakes
tonight, with associated trough digging to the Gulf Coast.

At the surface, high pressure slides offshore tonight with low level
return S flow lifting a warm frontal feature towards E LI/SE CT
tonight and then north Sunday morning. This will increase
clouds cover tonight. Models have been consistent in a
developing 25-30 kt llj, advecting in Atlantic moisture and
lift/converging along this boundary, bringing in light rain across
E LI/SE CT late tonight into early Sunday morning as clouds
aloft increase and moisture in the -10 to -30 degrees C layer
increase.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH 6 PM MONDAY/...
At the surface, a deep S/SW flow develops between high pressure
moving offshore and surface reflection of the deep closed low
approaching from the Great Lakes. Morning showers across far E LI/SE
CT, associated with llj and warm frontal feature, should push NE
Sunday morning. Then a quick moving moderate to locally heavy rain
event expected Sunday afternoon/evening ahead of approaching pre-
frontal trough and developing low pressure wave in response to
deep layered lift, weak low-level instability and moisture
convergence ahead of surface trough/low. Winds will be a gusty
as well, particularly coast in the late afternoon/early evening,
with S/SW winds 15-20g30-35 mph. Temps will run near normal.

CAM's indicating potential for a fine line of low topped
convection just ahead of the surface trough. Primary threat
with this line appears to be brief heavy downpours and a strong
wind shift to the west, with brief gusts to 40 to 50 mph
possible.

There is a low potential that LI gets briefly warm sectored Sun
eve if developing surface wave intensifies quick enough and
track over the region. This would advect in a sliver of surface
based instability with enhanced helicity, presenting a threat
for localized severe convective wind gusts and even a non-zero
weak tornado threat when coupled with the strong synoptic lift.
At this point it is a low probability this far north (mainly
signaled in the NAM12), but something to monitor with
subsequent high-res model runs.

Drying conditions then expected Sunday Night with strong caa on
westerly winds of 15-25g30-35mph, in wake of eastward sweeping cold
front and with a tightening gradient between deepening coastal
low pressure moving up the New England coast and strong high
pressure building in from the central US.

Strong caa continues on W/NW winds Monday as low pressure bombs as
it track into the Canadian Maritimes, with likelihood for wind
advisory winds of 20-35g40-55mph during the day in a well mixed
and subsident wind profile with 45-50 kt winds at top of mixed
layer. With still full foliage on tree for city/coast, potential
for this to be a more impactful wind advisory event than our
typical cool season post frontal wind events. After collab with
surrounding offices, will continue to outlook potential in HWO,
and hold off on wind advisory.

In addition potential for a few snow showers Monday Morning,
particularly interior, as secondary cold front and closed upper
low comes through, with enough saturation, instability and lift
in the dendritic growth zone to support. Potential for an
isolated wet snow shower/flurry to even make it to the coast.
With coldest airmass of season and plenty of instability cu for
a good part of the day, temps on Monday likely remain in the
lower to mid 40s for much of the region, with windchill in the
20s and 30s.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Active weather pattern to start the long term in the time period of
Monday night through Tuesday. Deep low pressure well within the
Canadian Maritimes in contrast with high pressure within the
Southeast US will make for a tight pressure gradient. Mid levels in
the model fields convey a strong shortwave and positive vorticity
advection moving across late Monday night into early Tuesday. An
associated cold front will move across early Tuesday. Winds will be
trending down from the previous day but will still be quite gusty,
with gusts up to the 30 to 40 mph range. The lesser end of the range
will be across more interior locations. Precipitation, there will be
a slight chance to low end chance of showers. Across the Lower
Hudson Valley and Southern Connecticut, temperatures and wet-bulb
temperatures are forecast to be cold enough for the precipitation to
be in the form of snow showers while along Long Island, mostly rain
showers can be expected. Going into Tuesday, wind gusts will be more
around 30 mph.

Shortwave aloft and cold front will be well east of the region
Tuesday afternoon, with any precipitation tapering off and winds
decreasing more to less than 30 mph.

The remainder of the forecast has dry conditions. High pressure
builds in from the west through midweek and then will shift
offshore, getting reinforced going into next weekend. A southerly
flow develops mid through late week. Highs forecast are in the mid
40s to near 50 for Tuesday but will moderate for Wednesday, with
forecast highs in the low to mid 50s. Highs are forecast mostly in
the lower 60s Thursday and Friday as well as next Saturday.

.AVIATION /06Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
High pressure continues moving offshore early this morning. A
strong cold front moves across the terminals late this afternoon
and evening. Low pressure then rapidly deepens along the New
England coast, then tracks up to the Canadian Maritimes tonight.

Primarily VFR through the night, with ceilings generally
3500-4000 ft. VFR conditions will then continue through Sunday
morning. MVFR to IFR conditions develop at all terminals from
west to east as showers overspread the terminals 18-21z.
The showers quickly move east of the terminals after 00Z with
VFR conditions returning.

Light flow early this morning will become S-SW after day break
and increase, with G20-25 kt by afternoon at city and coastal
terminals. Winds shift rapidly to the W then NW beginning around
00Z. Sustained speeds should increase to around 15 kt with gusts
25-30kt. Stronger winds are likely by early Monday morning with
gusts 30-35 kt.

 ...NY Metro (KEWR/KLGA/KJFK/KTEB) TAF Uncertainty...

Low probability for MVFR ceilings through 12Z. Wind gusts could
end up a few kt lower this afternoon, especially during the
showers. Timing of wind shift with the cold front may be off by
1-2 hours.

.OUTLOOK FOR 06Z MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY...
.Sunday night...Mainly VFR. WNW winds 15-20 kt with gusts
25-30kt.
.Monday...Chance of snow showers with brief IFR vsby at KSWF,
otherwise VFR. NW winds 20-30G35-45kt.
.Monday night...Chance of snow showers late with brief MVFR/IFR
vsby at KGON/KBDR, otherwise VFR. NW winds gradually
diminishing to 15-20G20-30kt.
.Tuesday...Mainly VFR. NW winds 15G20-25kt.
.Tuesday night...VFR. NW winds G20kt early at the NYC metros and
along the coast.
.Wednesday and Thursday...VFR.

.MARINE...
Winds and seas will remain below SCA levels through tonight.

Sunday afternoon there will be an increasing likelihood of SCA
conditions on ocean waters with a strengthening S/SW flow in
advance of an approaching cold front. SCA in effect for ocean
zones 18Z Sunday until 23Z Sunday.

Cold front moves through Sunday evening, with gale conditions
likely on the ocean waters and SCA on remainder of waters in its
wake. A brief period of gales are possible on nearshore waters
with frontal passage/wind shift Sunday evening. Then gale
conditions likely on all waters Monday as the gradient tightens
over the waters, with peak gusts 40 to 45 kt. Seas of 4 to 6 ft
likely on Central and E LI Sound Monday, with 6 to 10 ft on the
ocean water.

Gales will still be in the forecast across mainly the ocean waters
Monday night. For Monday evening, all waters will still have some
gales in the forecast and then late Monday night, just the ocean is
forecast to have gales with non-ocean having SCA level winds. Gales
on the ocean could even linger into a part of Tuesday. Otherwise,
SCA level winds are expected Tuesday. Mainly sub-SCA winds expected
thereafter Tuesday night through Thursday. SCA seas on the ocean
remain Monday night through Tuesday and into Tuesday night, before
dropping below SCA levels thereafter for the rest of the marine
forecast period.

One half to one inch of rain is likely Sunday afternoon into
evening, but no hydrologic impacts are anticipated through the
forecast period.
