* WHEN...For the High Surf Advisory, until 6 AM EDT early this
morning. For the Coastal Flood Advisory, from noon today to 4
PM EDT this afternoon. For the High Rip Current Risk, through
this evening.
* SHORELINE IMPACTS...Large breaking waves will begin to gradually

.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure remains centered to our south as it weakens and
eventually moves offshore on Thursday. It then remains anchored
across the Western Atlantic into the weekend. A weak cold front
passes Thursday night into Friday. A stronger cold front
approaches late in the weekend and moves through early next
week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
Temperatures in some spots (mainly outlying areas) were a bit
warmer than forecast. This is likely due to winds remaining up.
Have adjusted hourly temperatures a few degrees upward, and
increased low temperatures in some spots. Otherwise, the
forecast is on track.
As Teddy continues to move away from the area toward Nova
Scotia, the winds will diminish tonight as the pressure gradient
weakens.
There is a high risk of rip currents at the Atlantic Ocean beaches
into this evening due to high seas and long period swell.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH 6 PM THURSDAY/...
High pressure continues to keep us dry through the period. Heights
rise slightly with ridging aloft, and 850mb temperatures climb to
around 9C in the afternoon. Sunny conditions and a downsloping WNW
flow will help boost afternoon highs to above normal for the first
time in a few days. Expecting highs in the mid and upper 70s for
most locations, and around 80 in the city and adjacent areas. Lows
Wednesday night will be above normal as well for the most part.
Winds probably go calm for some of the northern suburbs, so
temperatures here are expected to fall into the upper 40s to lower
50s.
There is a high risk of rip currents at the Atlantic Ocean
beaches on Wednesday due to lingering high seas and long period
swell.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
A ridge axis will lie over the northeast on Thursday as surface
high pressure settles offshore. A broad mean trough with two
shortwaves, one in the northern stream and one in the southern
stream will approach the Eastern Seaboard Thursday night. The
southern stream wave is progged to lie out ahead of the northern
stream and flatten as it moves off the Middle Atlantic coast.
The northern stream shortwave will then pass across the area
later Friday. These systems will send a weak cold front across
the area and based on thermal fields, may wash out as it moves
offshore. Have left the forecast dry Friday into Friday night,
but the 12z ECMWF does graze the area with a few showers as the
trough axis slides across.
A larger upper trough will begin its approach on Saturday and
near the east coast Sunday into Sunday night. The trough may
then become a large cut-off low somewhere over southeast Canada
early next week, but the deterministic models and ensembles
differ in its placement. However, the upper trough will send a
stronger cold front into the area Sunday night into Monday.
Several secondary cold fronts may follow early next week as the
upper trough settles over the eastern half of the country.
Overall, dry conditions persist through Saturday with chance
PoPs for showers Sunday into early next week. There is some
instability indicated late Sunday/Sunday night away from the
coast, but have left out of the forecast for now as forecast
soundings look capped. Timing of shortwaves around this large
trough determine timing of individual fronts and when the
highest precipitation chances will occur.
Temperatures will continue to run above normal through the
upcoming weekend, settling closer to normal early next week. It
will also become increasingly more humid this weekend as dew
points reach the lower to possibly middle 60s on Sunday.
There is a moderate risk of rip currents at Atlantic Ocean
beaches on Thursday due to lingering easterly long period
swells.

VFR conditions will prevail through the TAF period.
NW winds overnight will remain around or below 10kt. Wind
speeds increase once again on Wednesday, mainly 10-15 kt with
gusts to around 20kt.

Winds late this morning into this afternoon will likely vary
on either side of 300-310 magnetic by 10 to 20 degrees.

.MARINE...
The pressure gradient over the local waters will weaken tonight as
Teddy heads closer to Nova Scotia. Have cancelled the advisory
over eastern LI Sound and Peconic/Gardiners Bays with an only an
occasional gust to 25 kt possible through 8 pm. As for the
ocean waters, swells from the storm will maintain elevated seas
through tomorrow. The SCA on the ocean remains in effect through
tomorrow, and might not need to be extended in time Wednesday
night. Sub-SCA conds otherwise on all waters Wednesday night
with diminishing winds and seas.
Winds and seas are expected to remain below small craft levels from
Thursday through Saturday night. Seas begin to build on Sunday
ahead of a strong cold front and could be near 5-6 ft by Monday.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Minimum RH values will range from the mid 30s to lower 40s and
afternoon wind gusts will reach the lower 20s mph on Wednesday.
As of right now, it appears a Statement will not be needed for
Wednesday.

.HYDROLOGY...
No hydrologic impacts are anticipated through early next week.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Tides will fall short of benchmarks tonight with the next
chance of minor coastal flooding with Wednesday afternoons high
tide. Based on trends the last few days, the minor flooding may
end up isolated. Will let the Coastal Flood Advisory remain in
effect for the South Shore Back Bays of Queens and Nassau but it
may need to be converted to a Coastal Flood Statement.
Otherwise, water levels should remain below minor flood levels
elsewhere.
The high surf advisory remains through 6 am Wednesday. Wave
heights of 7 to 10 ft are forecast.
