  hills above 1000 feet. Winds will ease during the daylight 
  hours of Sunday but then another burst of offshore winds will 
  develop Sunday night into Monday morning. The winds on Sunday 
  night will be almost purely offshore from an easterly 
  direction. 

* HUMIDITY...Humidity 30-45% Saturday evening will dry out 
  overnight as offshore winds develop to less then 30% by 
  sunrise Sunday. RH values staying steady from 10-25% Sunday 
  into early Monday with no humidity recovery Sunday night.

* HIGHEST THREAT...The hills of northeast Sonoma county and Napa

  humidity values by sunrise Sunday. Persistent northeast winds
  during the day Sunday then a secondary burst Sunday night will
  drive all the way to the coast with local gusts 30-45 mph.

The strongest offshore winds have ended. However another night of
poor humidity recovery for much of the Glass Fire. Along the coast
fog has returned to Point Reyes and is pushing through the Golden
Gate. Some southerly winds may work towards Santa Rosa with higher
humidity but the hills will remain warm and dry overnight and the
next several days.

warm and dry night is forecast for the East Bay hills. Some minor

.SYNOPSIS...Friday offers another day of mild temperatures and
onshore winds before a change this weekend. Saturday will begin a
warming trend with widespread 80s and 90s for inland areas.
Offshore winds develop Saturday night into Sunday morning. The
strongest winds will be focused over the North and East Bay hills
where a Fire Weather Watch will go in effect Saturday morning.
Conditions will be hotter and drier Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday as
strong high pressure builds. Offshore winds are set to back off
into next week, but little heat relief is expected in the long
term forecast.

.DISCUSSION...as of 09:09 PM PDT Thursday...The forecast
continues to be on track in the short and mid term, with some
variation in the longer term. Confidence continues to be high for
sharp increases in temperature over the weekend pairing with
offshore winds and drying conditions. Fire weather conditions in
the North Bay Mts and East Bay hills and valleys are still the
main concern through the weekend and into Monday morning.
Temperatures for Tuesday are now setting up to be comparable to
Sunday with Monday still offering the hottest conditions. Relief
from the heat is still looking like a slow-going process as our
upper level pattern continues to favor high pressure. Longer range
models keep 500 mb heights near 590 daM well into the late week.
This raises concerns for prolonged heat exposure.

.PREV DISCUSSION...as of 01:50 PM PDT Thursday...Water vapor imagery
is currently capturing the moisture gradient associated with the
cold FROPA across Northern California, which has introduced much
needed moisture to far northern portions of the State. Visible
satellite imagery depicts the high-based cirrus associated with
the cold front moving in from the NW while that flow at the
surface has translated into the advection of offshore marine
stratus. Skies have substantially cleared over the SF Peninsula
this afternoon as a result of this push, while atmospheric ripples
can be observed interacting with the Monterey Peninsula as the
stratus continue to be advected towards the south/southeast.
Expecting max temps to remain seasonal, with 60s F and low 70s F
along the coast, 80s F in the interior, and our warmest isolated
locations nearing 90 F.

Medium-range models pick up on a weak shortwave moving into the
PAC NW Friday, which will both bring beneficial rain to areas
stricken by fires in that region while also maintaining zonal flow
aloft over our CWA which in turn will translate into onshore
surface flow that will keep us seasonal tomorrow. Following this
shortwave, the warming trend will commence. The GFS and ECMWF are
in agreement that the PAC mid-level ridge will begin building
Saturday and introducing 591dm heights to portions of our CWA that
day before becoming more widespread on Sunday and Monday. As
850hPa temps build on Saturday, will start to see warm up in
higher-terrain locations before the heat gradually builds along
interior locations like San Jose and Livermore, reaching temps in
the upper 80s F. Coastal locations will approach temps in the low
to mid- 70s F in the meantime. Still expecting RH values to be
decent across the region through most of Saturday, given the lag
associated with the hotter air mass mixing down to the surface.
Moisture to our north owing to moist zonal flow will also keep
conditions Saturday from deteriorating as quickly as they
otherwise would.

Nevertheless, once mixing has gone into full effect, offshore
flow will quickly dry out the higher terrain locations along the
East and North Bay as a tight pressure gradient sets up over
northeast California. Both the MTRWRF and NAM runs today pick up
on both the drier air advection and the wind shift picking up
Saturday evening, with 925 hPa winds progged around 35 mph and
some locations like Mt. Saint Helena, Mt. Diablo, and Mt.
Tamalpais progged to reach gusts of up to 50 mph. Expecting the
North and East Bay hills to experience gusty conditions Saturday
night and into Sunday morning as a result. Poor overnight humidity
and temperature recoveries will carry over through the rest of
the weekend and into Monday, with Sunday and Monday progged to be
the warmest days of this initial part of the warming trend. This
upper-level ridge is expected to continue to build through Monday
and into the early part of next week, allowing for interior temps
to reach the 100-105 F range, while coastal locations will run
between the 76F-86F range. Coastal max temps will be challenging
to forecast this weekend given the nature of onshore flow. It
should be noted that by Sunday and Monday 850hPa temps do soar to
the 25F-27F range. Should the upper-level ridge and thermal
surface trough win out, the marine layer/coastal AC could shut
off. As such, will be adjusting coastal temps regularly and issue
any heat hazards should they come up. For now, the greatest threat
with this weekend set up is the offshore wind signature.
Anticipate for the current Fire Weather Watch to be upgraded to a
Red Flag warning sometime early Friday as a result.

While the added moisture has greatly helped with fire fighting
operations across the far northern portions of the State, the
August and North Complex fires are not expected to experience
significant improvements as this offshore event will just dry us
out again. As of this afternoon, the August Complex is 38%
contained. As offshore winds pick up in the coming days, can
expect the smoke to once again affect air quality in the North
Bay.

to AirNow and the Bay Area Air Quality District. For more
information on current firefighting operations, please refer to
CALFIRE or your local Sheriffs Office.

Looking ahead into the rest of next week, ensembles and long-range
model guidance on the ECMWF and GFS expecting this ridging pattern
to stay in place along the West Coast through the end of the
month, which raises concerns for ongoing fires along with smoke
concerns. As mentioned, the wind shift this weekend will likely
reintroduce smoke from the August Complex to the North Bay. Smoke
could linger through most of next week across greater portions of
the CWA given the stagnant air mass. Thankfully, total smoke
canopy is much less compared to the Tuesday after Labor Day, but
will keep an eye on any changes between now and then. Stay tuned.

.AVIATION...As of 10:12 PM PDT Thursday...For the 06z TAFs. VFR
except for patchy IFR to MVFR ceilings along the coast tonight and
Friday morning.

Vicinity of KSFO...VFR. Tempo IFR ceiling 09z-13z Friday morning.
West wind increasing to 20 to 25 knots Friday afternoon and early
evening.

SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to KSFO.

Monterey Bay Terminals...VFR, west winds decreasing to light and
variable winds tonight and Friday morning. Patchy MVFR possible
late tonight and Friday morning. West winds 10 to 15 knots Friday
afternoon.

.BEACHES...as of 4:00 PM PDT Thursday...A deep low in the Gulf of
Alaska has produced a large long-period swell train that will
impact the coastline through tomorrow afternoon. Swells by this
afternoon 10 to 12 ft with a 15 to 16 second period. The main
impacts will be increased wave heights breaking near the shoreline
and an increased risk of rip currents developing along coastal
beaches. This may produce breaking wave heights in the surf zone
of 15 to 20 feet, particularly at west to northwest facing
beaches. Therefore, a Beach Hazards Statement has been issued from
5 PM PDT this afternoon until 2 PM PDT Friday. With the increase
in temperatures inland expected late in the week, beachgoers
should be mindful of the increased wave activity and rip
currents.The wave activity is forecast to subside into Friday
evening.

.MARINE...as of 9:09 PM PDT Thursday...Northwest winds will
increase across the waters tonight and tomorrow in the post cool
frontal environment with strongest winds forecast along the Big
Sur Coast. A larger long period northwest swell will continue with
swell heights of 9 to 12 feet at periods of 14 to 17 seconds
through tomorrow. Swell heights and periods then expected to
quickly diminish.
