...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 PM MST THIS
AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph 
  expected. Gusts between 40 and 50 mph are expected at 
  MacDonald Pass, Highway 141 north of Avon, and between 
  Georgetown Lake and Anaconda.

* WHERE...Butte, Georgetown Lake, Highway 12 Garrison to 
  Elliston, Homestake Pass, and MacDonald Pass.

* WHEN...Until 5 PM MST this afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. 
  Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may 
  result.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high
profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.

.DISCUSSION...A transitory ridge of high pressure will be over the
Northern Rockies today causing a decrease in shower activity. A
few showers are still expected to linger across northwest Montana.
Temperatures are still on track to be relatively warm for this
time of year.

A weak disturbance is anticipated to move through the region late
tonight into Saturday causing widespread shower activity. Snow
levels will continue to be moderately high so valley locations
will receive a wintry mix. The higher terrain along the
Montana/Idaho border will receive the brunt of the precipitation
as Lookout and Lolo passes potentially getting 2 to 4 inches of
snow by Saturday afternoon.

The atmospheric river, strong plume of moisture, is still on track
to impact the Northern Rockies Saturday night into Sunday. Snow
levels will be steadily rising during this event. Valleys will
primarily receive rain while the mountains of north central Idaho
into northwest Montana could receive 6 to 14 inches of new snow.
Strong upper level winds will also be over the region during this
time frame causing some downsloping effects in the broader valleys
of western Montana.

The models continue to indicate a fairly strong low pressure
system impacting the Northern Rockies Monday night into Tuesday.
This feature will cause snow levels to crash back to valley
floors. The exact path of the system is still a little uncertain
at this time, but expect widespread snow. This system will be the
last chance of receiving snow before Christmas as a ridge of high
pressure is expected to build over the region by the latter part
of the week.

.AVIATION...A few showers will continue to linger across parts of
northwest Montana, being mainly confined to the higher terrain.
Patchy fog is still a concern for KSMN this morning. Any fog that
does develop should dissipate by late morning. Mid to high level
clouds will continue to stream over the Northern Rockies today.
Another weak disturbance is expected late tonight through Saturday
causing widespread shower activity.
