Main change through the short term could be summed as pumping the
brakes, as much of the activity associated with this next system
looks to remain west and north of our CWA until Thursday afternoon
as the cold front starts advancing east across MN. In terms of
impacts, not much has changed. We have a little more snow out by the
SD border (1-2"), but still carrying a 0.1" to 0.2" of an inch of
ice roughly west of a Fairmont to St. Cloud line. HREF is still
showing potential for ice accumulations closer to 0.25" near the
Morris and Alexandria areas and for that reason, we kept the watch
in place. Current expectations is that this will in all likelihood
be an advisory level event for the mixed precip that may end up
needing to be out as far east as that Fairmont to St. Cloud line.
The other change for this system was a reduction in overall QPF.
Basically, we miss out on the first round of precip tonight into
Tuesday morning, with most of what we get tied to the fropa Thursday
afternoon through Friday morning. Because of that, QPF across our
area is now down around 0.5", so this should keep this from having
significant impacts on the ongoing flooding situation across the
area.
As for how we got to where the forecast is, we stuck close to a
blend of the CAMs for PoPs and hourly temperatures. For
temperatures, we also brought in some NAMnest to help cool post
frontal temps a bit more. This probably still smears out the
temperature gradient behind the front a little too much, but does
better than the NBM, which is not cooling things down fast enough
behind the front.
.LONG TERM...(Friday through Wednesday)

For the long term, there will be two regimes, mild southwest flow
for the start of next week that transitions to northwest flow for
the second half of next week. The Sunday through Wednesday period
looks to feature several weak waves embedded within the flow, which
has resulted in the continuation of a prolonged period of low chance
PoPs Sunday through Tuesday.
Main deviation from the NBM came on Friday as we switched from using
conshort temperature grids to consraw in the hourly temperature
grids to capture the temperature drop behind the front. This now has
highs on Friday across MN in the 30s, though we could end up a few
degrees warmer, especially in eastern MN. Next week, stayed with NBM
highs/lows as they actually came in near the top end of the model
spread. Right now, the warmest day looks to be Tuesday, when highs
into the 70s still look possible, especially across southern MN.
For weather systems, there's a little better agreement on on one
wave passing through Sunday evening that would bring a quick hit of
light rain, but after that, there's a model producing QPF at some
point until the cold front passes through our area on Wednesday and
we make the transition to cooler northwest flow.

Mid-level clouds will lower into tomorrow morning, with MVFR
conditions expected across western Minnesota this morning, and by
mid afternoon across eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin.
Further deterioration to IFR ceilings is also expected at
AXN/RWF by tomorrow afternoon and at STC/MKT by tomorrow evening.
Rain will hold off until the afternoon at most Minnesota
terminals, with the exception of AXN which will see periods of
light rainfall overnight. Borderline MVFR/IFR visibility is
expected across western and central Minnesota with the main band
of precipitation tomorrow afternoon and evening. Transition of
rain to freezing rain is expected at AXN by the end of the period,
but should hold off until after midnight at other terminals. Winds
will be predominately southeast through the period at around 10
kts, with gusts up to 20 kts into tomorrow morning. A wind shift
to northwesterly will occur from west to east across the region late
tomorrow afternoon through tomorrow night.
KMSP...VFR with no precipitation expected through the morning.
Ceilings are expected to drop to MVFR by 18-19Z, with MVFR
rainfall starting a few hours later by 20-21Z. A drop to IFR
ceilings looks possible after midnight, with precipitation
expected to remain liquid through the end of this period.
