.AVIATION...
06Z issuance...VFR conditions will persist through the night with
light and variable winds. A round of showers and thunderstorms
will be possible along the coast beginning as early as 4 am but
the best chances will be during the morning hours mainly along
and south of I-10. Gusty winds and IFR conditions could be
possible within any storms. By the afternoon, more storms are
expected to develop and spread inland. Winds will turn out of the
south and increase as clouds increase in advance of Tropical Storm
Marco. BB/03

NEAR TERM UPDATE /Now Through Sunday night/...I'm going to break
this up into two sections to make this a little easier. The first
section will be the overall near term period and the second part
will be the Tropics and impacts from Marco.

NON-TROPICAL....We are still under the influences of the upper
trough over northern Mississippi into western Louisiana. In
advance of the approaching tropical system, the upper trough will
begin to weaken and lift northward throughout the day today.
Moisture will begin to quickly surge northward with PWATS climbing
to near 2 along the coast by mid-Morning. Associated with this
surge of moisture, showers and storms will develop along the coast
during the morning hours today. As the moisture continues to
surge inland, storms will likely follow suit and move inland
during the afternoon. The main threat will be locally heavy
rainfall given the slow motion of storms and the high PWATS. With
the likely early rain and increasing clouds, temperatures will be
in the upper 80s.

Tropical....Alright now for the more important discussion and the
one most of you are probably hear to read. Not much has changed
from this afternoon in regards to Marco. The system is still
expected to move northward across the gulf towards the southeast
Louisiana coast on Sunday. As it begins to cross the gulf some
strengthening is expected. One thing to note is that Marco is a
rather small storm which means intensity changes could happen
quickly and fluctuations up and down will be likely. Nonetheless,
the forecast does call for intensification into a hurricane over
the next 24 hours. We will likely not begin to feel the impacts of
Marco until late tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow night. Given the
storms small size, the first signs will be quickly increasing
surf along the beaches. This will lead to a HIGH RISK of rip
currents and likely a high surf advisory with surf heights
increasing to near 4 to 7 feet. The first actual outer bands
associated with Marco will likely approach the coast by late
during the afternoon into likely the evening hours along the
coast. We will have to monitor these for a potential isolated
tornado threat. The main impacts from Marco will be more likely
Monday. BB/03

00Z issuance...Isolated showers and storms are mainly along the
I-65 corridor. Ceilings and visibilities should remain VFR
area wide tonight with mainly scattered high clouds. By the
morning a round of showers and thunderstorms will likely develop
along the coast. MVFR to IFR conditions will be possible within
the vicinity of any storms. Winds will remain light out of the
south-southeast. Increasing high clouds will be possible
throughout the day tomorrow with another round of showers and
thunderstorms possible during the afternoon. BB/03

.TROPICAL STORM WATCHES ARE NOW IN EFFECT FOR PORTIONS OF
SOUTHWEST ALABAMA AND SOUTHEAST MISSISSIPPI, AS WELL AS THE
ADJACENT COASTAL WATERS...

NEAR TERM UPDATE/Now Through Sunday/...Tropical Storm Marco is
becoming better organized and the forecast track has also shifted
further east as the storm lifts north across the central Gulf. As
such, the tropical storm will become a hurricane tonight as it
enters the southeastern Gulf and remain a hurricane as it nears
the southeast Louisiana coast on Sunday. This is an eastward trend
to the track of Marco, and as such a Tropical Storm Watch is now
in effect for the Alabama coast with a Hurricane Watch extending
westward from the Mississippi/Alabama state line. This has been a
major change with regard to Marco today, and any future
adjustments of the track to the east could require a Hurricane
Watch (or Warning) for the Alabama coast as well. This is a
quickly changing situation and should be monitored closely. We
expect an increase in showers and thunderstorms from the south
especially on sunday as Marco moves north. Showers and storms then
look to continue spreading northward in off the Gulf and up
across the southern zones during the course of the day on Sunday.
An increase in dangerous to potentially deadly rip currents also
look to begin by Sunday and no changes have been made to coastal
hazard message for this. Increasing wind, flooding rain and storm
surge threats are expected over parts of the area by Sunday. There
is now a moderate wind threat over southern portions of Mobile
and Baldwin counties, and Stone, George, Perry and Greene counties
of southeast Mississippi.

Otherwise, a long wave trough at high levels remains draped from
the OH River Valley to the TX coast. To the east of this feature,
a deep layer ridge was positioned over the southwest Atlantic.
Water vapor satellite imagery shows northwest Caribbean deep
tropical moisture (where Tropical Storm Marco is located) being
tapped and being stretched northward over the eastern Gulf and up
across the Appalachians. At the surface, a quasi-stationary front
was draped from the DELMARVA, southwest to the LA/upper TX coast.
For today, model guidance indicates pockets of drier air rotating
around the larger scale flow around the mean trough position, with
the deeper moisture mostly positioned to the east of I-65. The
somewhat drier air in the forecast soundings will likely limit
coverage inland through at least early afternoon before scattered
storms begin to develop late this afternoon through the early
evening similar to that which occurred Friday. The drier air aloft
may increase the threat for wet microbursts for late this
afternoon with the morning assessment indicating a moderate chance
of strong gusty winds in the more developed storms. An isolated
severe storm cannot be ruled out by late this afternoon/early
evening, but the overall threat outlook today from the Storm
Prediction Center is lower than seen 24 hrs ago. Given that the
trough axis aloft moves little tonight, the better forcing on its
east side supports maintaining a mention of isolated to scattered
showers and storms along and east of the I-65 corridor. To its
north, forecasters anticipate showers and storms to increase over
the coastal waters. Showers and storms then look to continue
spreading northward in off the Gulf and up across the southern
zones during the course of the day on Sunday. An increase in
dangerous to potentially deadly rip currents look to begin by
Sunday as well, with no changes have been made to coastal hazard
message for this.

Overnight lows tonight will range from 68 to 71 degrees inland
areas, 73 to 78 along the coast. With increase in clouds and rain,
daytime highs look to only lift into the mid 80s Sunday. /10

SHORT TERM /Sunday night Through Tuesday night/...Forecast during the
short term period will be heavily depend on track/intensity of
Marco. As noted in the Near Term, the storm is expected to be more
east than earlier forecast as it lifts north across the Gulf as the
the mid/upper level ridge extending west toward our area from the
Atlantic is not be as strong as previous model runs had it. This
has resulted in a track for Marco that is a little more east of
previous forecast track. Marco has strengthened significantly this
afternoon and should be a hurricane soon. The storm is still
forecasted to make its way north through the Yucatan Channel
tonight and into the southwest Gulf of Mexico by early Sunday.
Thereafter Marco is expected to move northwest across the central
Gulf through Monday, approaching the southeast Louisiana coast by
Monday afternoon. Primary wind, surge and heavy rain threats will
occur over our area late Monday into early Tuesday. A moderate
wind threat (for tropical storm force winds) over southern
portions of Mobile and Baldwin counties, and Stone, George, Perry
and Greene counties of southeast Mississippi and an elevated rain
threat will exist over the southern third of our forecast area,
where locally 5 to 6 inches are expected near the coast, and 2 to
4 inches further inland (up to the Highway 84 in southeast
Mississippi). Along the coast Storm Surge inundation of 3 to 5
feet will be possible around the Mobile Bay area, with most likely
inundation expected to be closer to around 3 feet at this time.

Also, during the same time frame, Tropical Storm Laura (currently
around Puerto Rico) is forecast to traverse Cuba from Sunday
evening through Monday and emerge over the southeastern Gulf of
Mexico by Monday evening. Please see the latest forecast track
information from the National Hurricane Center for both Tropical
Storm Marco and Tropical Storm Laura. At the surface, high pressure
will build and persist over the Appalachians. /12

EXTENDED TERM /Wednesday Through Saturday/...No real changes to
the extended period at this time. Hurricane Laura will likely be
moving into central or southeastern Louisiana Wednesday
afternoon, with most impacts expected to be to the west of our
area at this time but uncertainties still exist. The uncertainties
for Laura are mainly due to the questions about how interaction
with Puerto Rico and Cuba could change the system before emerging
in the southeast Gulf Monday afternoon, and also later with
lingering influenced by Tropical Storm Marco. Good chance to
likely PoPs will likely continue through the period. /12

MARINE...Main features dominating the weather over the next
several days will be the tropical cyclones...Marco and Laura.
Tropical Storm Watches are in effect for portions of the marine
area late this weekend and early next week in association with
Tropical Storm Marco, which will become a hurricane as it enters
and moves north across the central Gulf. Tropical storm force
winds and high seas are expected over the western marine zones
late this weekend and early next week in association with Marco,
and perhaps later in the week in association with Laura. The
forecast will be highly dependent on eventual track and strength
of both of the tropical cyclones. /12
