low cigs and reduced visibility in fog. Initially, fog has mixed
out and visibility has improved over most of the area except for a
small portion of the immediate coast primarily over the northwest
FL panhandle where dense fog over bays and sounds extends into
the coastal land zones a bit. Vsby reduced to LIFR/VLIFR
categories in these areas. Bulk of shra/isolated tsra over the
interior. After 14.00Z, fog coverage expands and vsby trends
lower over a widespread area. Cig bases trend to IFR categories or

UPDATE...Latest surface analysis shows a quasi-stationary
frontal boundary aligned from the western Carolinas southwest to
just east of the I-65 corridor, transitioning to a warm front
southwest to off the LA coast. The bulk of the radar returns are
streaming northeast over the interior of southwest AL and
interior portions of southeast MS. Storms have been shallow with
respective (40+ dbz cores) in the lowest 20 kft. These cores have
resulted in rain rates between 4 and 6"/hr with some of these
being slow northeastward movers. This has necessitated the
issuance of urban/small stream flood advisories where doppler
radar precipitation estimates are moving above 2" in some areas
over the interior southwest AL, southeast of I-65. More of a
short-fused heavy rain threat. The risk of severe storms is low
given poor phasing of CAPE and weak bulk shear/mid-level lapse
rate profiles. Even so, will still watch for potential of strong
storms today as any breaks in the overcast will favor solar
insolation and better destabilization of the local air-mass with
boundary easing north to also aid in continued ascent.
Observations show dense fog persisting over portions of the
coastal zones and have extended the advisory thru noon these
areas. The marine fog advisory for bays and sounds is left

12Z issuance...Primary aviation concerns will be IFR to LIFR
ceilings and visibility reductions with widespread fog and light
drizzle across the area today, with embedded heavier showers and
some isolated thunderstorms as well. The greatest probability of
LIFR ceilings/visibility reductions will over the southern half of
the area, especially affecting coastal locations. Visibility over
inland areas should improve gradually during the day today before
deteriorating again tonight. IFR ceilings may continue through
the day however. /12

NEAR TERM /Now Through Monday night/...A warm front is lifting north
across the forecast area this morning, and should be just to the
north of our forecast area by early this evening. Showers and a
few thunderstorms (occasionally strong) have been lifting north
across the area and will continue today. Some locally heavy
rainfall has occurred over the Florida panhandle and south central
Alabama this morning, but heaviest rainfall axis is expected to
shift to our northwestern counties today as the front lifts north.
After coordination with WPC, our far northwestern counties have
been placed under a Slight Risk of Excessive Rainfall today and
tonight. Up to 2 inches of rainfall could easily occur in those
areas, some totals closer to 2 to 3 inches in localized swaths of
heavier rainfall due to training. We have had a couple of isolated
strong storms across the area this morning, and while we are not
outlooked for severe weather, (parameters...CAPE, SHEAR...are not
overly impressive), a few strong storms could occur today
especially with interaction along the warm front as it lifts
north. Categorical PoPs moving north across the area today. With
the warm front just to our north and west by tonight, axis for
heavier rain and whatever strong storms there may be should be
just to the north of our area. So for tonight, likely PoPs over
our far northern counties, but chance to slight chance PoPs
further south across our area toward the coast. the pattern setup
will allow for continuation of area of fog through the near term
period. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 9 AM for most of
the forecast areas this morning, including the near shore marine
zones. The dense fog may dissipate some over land areas today, but
remain dense over adjacent marine areas today through tonight.
Dense fog likely forming over some land areas again tonight as
well. Very mild temperatures for this time of the year continue.

lower Mississippi valleys by Tuesday morning. Heavier showers will
be concentrated to the north closer to the boundary on Tuesday,
but areas south will see still have the potential for some
scattered showers due to abundant moisture from persistent
southerly flow. In fact, dew points through Tuesday are likely to
be in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees. Dew points will also be
in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees Wednesday. As warm, moist
air continues to be ushered into our area, chances for scattered
showers will thus be possible through Wednesday and Wednesday
night as well.
With the passage of the warm front, temperatures will be well
above normal for this time of year. Highs Tuesday and Wednesday
are expected to be in the mid to upper 70s, with lows Wednesday
morning in the lower to mid 60s. Overall, it will be a warm and
humid couple of days leading into midweek. This will also mean it
will likely be foggy. Models show high probabilities of fog
Tuesday and Wednesday, particularly towards the coast and marine
areas where dense fog is more probable. /26
LONG TERM /Thursday Through Sunday/...Upper level high
pressure will persist over the Gulf and an upper level ridge will
also build over the eastern CONUS through late week. An upper
level trough will then progress over the Plains, traversing the
Ohio Valley Saturday and then move through the northeastern CONUS
on Sunday. At the surface, a quick-moving cold front will bring
the potential for some showers over the area Thursday. Not
expecting much precipitation Friday due to upper level ridging and
the surface front likely being well south of the area by this
time; however, southerly flow in the afternoon could bring some
moisture back up over the northern Gulf coast for some isolated
shower development. By Saturday, another cold front is expected to
progress over the area, bringing another round of rain; however,
dry weather will return for late weekend.
Temperatures through the work week will continue to run well
above normal. Highs Thursday will be in the mid to upper 70s, with
lows into Friday morning in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees.
Furthermore, with dew points in the mid to upper 60s Thursday
morning, fog development is possible, particularly near the coast
and over marine areas. Friday afternoon highs will then be in the
lower to mid 70s. By the weekend, temperatures will be on a
downward trend, beginning with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s
on Saturday. Highs will then decrease to be in the mid to upper
50s on Sunday. Lows will follow suit, with Saturday morning lows
in the lower 60s and Sunday morning lows in the 40s. /26
MARINE...Widespread dense fog reducing visibilities to well below
one nautical mile can be expected over the near shore waters of
Alabama and Northwest Florida out to 20 nm, including all inland
bays and sounds today and tonight and likely persist well into the
middle part of the week as a light onshore flow continues. This
warm moist flow will interact with the much cooler near shore
waters and continue to result in areas of fog. Scattered showers
and storms over the marine area today as a warm front lifts inland
away from the marine area. Some rain possibly continuing through
tonight and into early Tuesday, but decreasing in coverage mid to
late week. Little change in seas this week, generally in the 2 to
3 foot range offshore and no more than about a foot on area bays.
