.AVIATION...
22/12Z issuance...VFR conditions at most locations this morning,
but some patchy dense fog noted around Mobile and Baldwin
counties, otherwise only light fog (approx 4 miles) noted
elsewhere across the area. All the fog should burn off by around
14z, with only high clouds expected for the remainder of the day.
Winds will become southeasterly around 10 knots later this
morning then increase to 10 to 15 knots with some gusts up to
around 20 knots this afternoon. For tonight, clouds thicken and
lower, becoming near upper end MVFR at many locations by around
23/06z. Over our Mississippi counties and parts of extreme western
Alabama, could see some scattered showers and maybe even a
thunderstorm late in the forecast period, bringing possible lower
end MVFR (possibly locally IFR) conditions in and near the
convection. /12

.PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 429 AM CDT Wed Apr 22 2020/

NEAR TERM UPDATE /Today and Tonight/...A broad long-wave upper
trof drifts east out over the west Atlantic today. Latest satellite
imagery shows a cluster of deep convection over eastern Oklahoma,
with high based moisture being sheared off the colder cloud tops
there and streaming southeast into the southeastern US states. A
short-wave upper ridge builds over our area today as surface high
pressures slides off the the east and a more persistent return flow
develops across our area. Even with the increased moisture, expect a
rain-free day today with a mix of cirrus clouds with sunshine. One
of the HiRes models does indicate a few isolated showers over
interior southeast Mississippi late this afternoon (after about 3 or
4 PM), but the vast majority of guidance keeps rain out of the area
today, so will not carry a PoP for any zone today. As the onshore
becomes more established this afternoon the rip current risk along
the beaches will increase, and there is now a High Risk of rip
currents from today through Thursday night. Highs today ranging from
the upper 70s well inland and along the coast, with most areas over
the interior warming into the lower 80s.

As low pressure approaches the Mid-South late tonight, PoPs begin to
increase. The higher probabilities begin to spread eastward over
southeast MS and interior southwest AL late tonight (during the pre-
dawn hours Thursday). Some storms could become severe over these
areas as there are indications that the low level jet will
respond/strengthen with the approach of better dynamics as the
synoptic scale low eases closer to the Lower MS River valley toward
daybreak Thursday. The ECMWF/operational GFS/and NAM indicate 55 to
60 kts of H85 flow along with what appears to be recovered
environmental instability. 0-6 KM bulk shear magnitudes are around
55 to 65 kts by 12Z Thursday as well. A Marginal Risk of severe
weather noses into our southeast MS/interior southwest AL zones by
late tonight, with the best timing of onset for showers and storms
being being by and after around 4 AM Thursday. The severe potential
will be quickly increasing toward sunrise and into the day on
Thursday, and there will be a Moderate Risk of severe weather over
the entire area after 12z Thursday (See Short Term Discussion that
follows for more on that). Lows tonight primarily ranging from the
lower 60s well inland to the mid and upper 60s over the southern
half of the forecast area, and maybe even a few low 70s along the
immediate beaches. /12

SHORT TERM /Thursday Through Friday night/...A line of showers
and thunderstorms will likely be entering our area around 12Z on
Thursday. This squall line will likely weaken with time as it
encounters lower instability and outpaces the synoptic forcing.
However, a damaging wind threat will still be possible especially
along and north of the highway 84 corridor. Another round of
severe weather is possible during the late morning and afternoon
hours as a dryline moves east across the area. The positive tilt
of the upper trough will allow this feature to move slower over
southern MS and AL. This will allow time for additional heating
to take place and stronger instability to develop. The
combination of favorable deep layer shear and an unstable airmass
will be favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms with
all modes of severe weather possible. The Storm Prediction Center
has outlooked the entire area in an Enhanced Risk of severe
storms. Continue to monitor this system and make sure to have
multiple ways to receive warnings on Thursday.

The thunderstorms will move east of the area by Thursday
evening. Slightly drier conditions will be in place Friday as a
weak shortwave ridge moves north of the area. This will be short
lived as the next system quickly approaches and southerly flow
returns by Friday night. Highs will be in the upper 70s and low
80s. Lows will be in the upper 50s and low 60s inland to mid/upper
60s near the coast. /13

EXTENDED TERM /Saturday Through Tuesday/...A deep upper-level trough
sets up over the eastern CONUS this weekend before pushing off to
the east early next week, leaving the area under northwest flow
aloft. At the surface, a low pressure system lifts quickly northeast
from the Tennessee Valley into the New England area over the weekend
and then on to Nova Scotia early next week. A trailing cold front
pushes through the area Saturday and high pressure builds into the
southern and southeastern CONUS in its wake. North winds usher a
cooler and drier airmass into the region thereafter. The surface
high continues to build east of the area Monday into Tuesday, with
onshore flow and moisture gradually returning to the area by late
Tuesday. Still, expecting a dry forecast through the period.
Temperatures will be cooler Sunday in the wake of Saturday's front,
with highs reaching the mid 70s inland and upper 70s along the
coast. Highs return to the 80s by Monday and Tuesday, however, as
winds flip back to southerly. Low temps most nights will stay in the
50s and low 60s, except Sunday night when they dip into the mid to
upper 40s inland under calm winds and mostly clear skies. /49

MARINE...A more established onshore flow returns today as high
pressure moves east of the marine area. Moderate to strong onshore
flow will develop, along with building seas, tonight into Thursday
ahead of another storm system approaching from the west. Small craft
should exercise caution today, especially out over the Gulf waters,
southern Mobile Bay and the Mississippi Sound. A Small Craft
Advisory will become necessary for the same marine zones tonight as
the onshore flow continues to strengthen ahead of the approaching
system. Winds become more variable in direction and decrease
somewhat by Friday along with subsiding seas. Winds shift onshore
and again increase slightly late Saturday into Sunday as a cold
front approaches and moves south into the northern Gulf.  /12
