VFR conditions through 08.00z. Light rain and low clouds in the
wake of a cold front that moved through the region earlier today
will move off to the east later this evening and continue through
tonight. Winds will be west to northwest at 15 to 25 knots with
gusts to 35 knots this evening and overnight diminishing to 10
knots or less by midday or early afternoon then shifting mostly
south by late afternoon and early evening. 32/ee

NEAR TERM UPDATE /Now Through Friday night/...A meridionally
oriented upper trof over the central states takes on a slight
negative tilt and broadens while advancing into the eastern states
through tonight. The upper trof continues to broaden through Friday
to cover the eastern half of the CONUS. A cold front will be
located east of the area by early this evening and continues east
overnight with much colder air flowing in the area in the wake of
the front. With this push of colder air flowing into the area,
isentropic layer lift will be present mainly from 290-285K layer
which will support mainly slight chance this evening over much of
the area. Drier air flows into the area meanwhile which will bring
an end to the precipitation, although isolated patches of light rain
will be possible over the northwesternmost portion of the area
shortly after midnight before ending. One concern for the forecast
is whether or not the precipitation comes to an end well inland
before the colder air flowing into the region creates the potential
for the rain to change over to flurries. At this point, am
expecting the precipitation to end before this could occur, but even
if some flurries do develop there would be no impacts to the area.
Dry conditions otherwise follow through Friday night. With a Gale
Warning in effect for the open Gulf waters including southern Mobile
Bay and the Mississippi Sound, have issued a Wind Advisory for
coastal portions of the land areas beginning at 9 pm this evening
which runs until 6 am Friday morning. A surface ridge meanwhile
builds into the area through Friday in the wake of the cold front,
then shifts east of the area Friday night allowing to a light return
flow to ensue. After mild temperatures earlier today, tonight will
be much colder with lows mainly in the mid 30s except for upper 30s
at the coast. Highs on Friday will be mainly in the mid 50s then
lows Friday night range from the upper 30s inland to the lower/mid
40s near the coast. A High Surf Advisory continues along the coast
until 6 am Friday, and a High Rip Current Risk also continues
through Friday evening. /29
SHORT TERM /Saturday Through Sunday night/...A weak mid level
shortwave disturbance will move quickly east across the southeastern
states on Saturday, and in conjunction with weak return flow and
slightly increased low level moisture will bring a low end chance
for showers back to the forecast. This will be brief however, as
the weak lifting associated with this feature will move east of
the area by Sunday, with no rainfall expected during the day on
Sunday. By Sunday night look for a slight chance of showers over
the western half of the forecast area as the next frontal system
begins to develop well to our west. Highs Saturday and Sunday in
the mid to upper 60s. Lows Saturday night still fairly cool,
ranging from the upper 30s and lower 40s over inland areas and mid
to upper 40s closer to the coast, but warming slightly on Sunday
night with lows ranging from the lower 50s well inland to the
upper 50s closer to and along the coast. /12
EXTENDED TERM /Monday Through Thursday/...An upper trof with a
strong positive tilt extending from the western states into the
north central states cuts off an upper low near southern
California by Monday while the portion of the upper trof over the
north central states takes on a more meridional orientation. The
upper low moves east over the next several days, opening into a
weakening trof over western Texas by late Wednesday. A weak
surface boundary that will be just to the west of the forecast
area at the beginning of the extended time frame will become more
west-east oriented across the interior southeastern states as
upper flow becomes more zonal over our area. This will bring
another round of unsettled weather to the region, with a chance of
showers and thunderstorms each day Wednesday. The leftover energy
from the west coast upper low will then quickly lift east-
northeast across the Tennessee Valley region on Thursday, with an
associated surface low also developing in the same region and this
will pull a stronger cold front into the forecast area during the
day on Thursday, when showers and thunderstorms will become
likely. For now, no severe weather is anticipated, but the storms
toward the end of the period on Thursday could be strong and we
will have to monitor the development of this. Otherwise, a mild
with daytime highs in the low to mid 70s through the extended
period and nighttime lows mainly in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

MARINE...Strong westerly winds become northwest tonight then
diminish to a light to moderate westerly flow on Friday. A Gale
Warning is in effect the open Gulf waters from 6 pm this evening
until 9 am Friday and is also in effect for southern Mobile Bay and
the Mississippi Sound from 9 pm this evening until 6 am Friday. A
Small Craft Advisory otherwise will be in effect until 9 am Friday
before ending over the bay waters. As the west to northwest flow
decreases along with seas subsiding on Friday, the Small Craft
Advisory ends over the near shore waters by noon Friday then over
the 20-60 nm portion by 6 pm Friday. A light to moderate southerly
flow develops Friday night and continues through Tuesday,
becoming briefly stronger Sunday into Monday. /29
