* Flood Warning for
the Wisconsin River At Portage.
* From Saturday morning until further notice.
* At 3:00 PM CDT Friday the stage was 16.4 feet.
* Flood stage is 17.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage late
tomorrow morning and continue rising to a crest of 17.7 feet early
Wednesday morning.
* Impact...At 17.5 feet, In the Blackhawk Park area in the Town of
Caledonia, Old River Road is closed with water over it. West Lane
Road in the Long Lake area is closed with about 4 feet of water
over it in places. wood Street in the Blackhawk Park area is
affected by floodwaters. County Highway V and Oak Knoll Road in
the Town of Dekorra have water up to the edge of the pavement. A
few homes in the Town of Dekorra area near the river have water in
the first floor and there is also flooding of outbuildings and
yards.

* Forecast...The river is expected to rise to 10.2 feet early
Wednesday afternoon. Additional rises are possible thereafter.
* Impact...At 10.1 feet, Floodwaters affect the property of a home
on South Christian Road on the east side of the river in the Afton
area. Minor erosional flood damage occurs to lowland and
agricultural land adjacent to the river the Afton and Janesville
areas. This level is the 20 percent chance flood meaning that
there is a 20 percent chance in any given year of the river
reaching this level.

River Rd in the Blackhawk Park and 12 homes flooded on Hwy V. Old
River Rd covered with water. West Lane Rd in the Long Lake area
has 4 feet of water over it in places. Water over River Oaks Rd
near Hwy V and Oak Knoll Rd in Town of Dekorra 7 miles downstream.
Water at base of Caledonia/Lewiston Levee on Old River Rd. This

Showers continue this evening, with the forecast remaining on
track through tonight. Could see some locally dense fog rolling
off the lake at times, but most places have stayed in the 1-3 mile
range in the east so far.

Areas of dense fog will continue into Saturday. Persistent
easterly winds will build higher waves Saturday. Though
winds/waves look borderline for advisory criteria earlier for the
first half of they day, kept the Small Craft Advisory as is given
close enough conditions.
Winds will veer southeast to south and increase Saturday evening
into Saturday night, becoming southwest by Sunday morning.
Southwest to west winds will continue to increase during the day
Sunday, with gale force winds possible. A Gale Watch remains in
effect Sunday for the nearshore and open waters.

UPDATE...
Rounds of showers will continue this evening into tonight. A
small amount of elevated instability out there...so a little
thunder not out of the question. The forecast generally looks on
track for the upcoming night, with no significant updates
anticipated.
AVIATION(00Z TAFS)...
Will see on and off showers this evening into tonight, with a
rumble of thunder not out of the question. Fog may develop again
tonight, particulary toward Lake Michigan, possibly lasting well
into Saturday.
Could see a brief break in the precip late Sat morning into the
afternoon, before more rounds of showers move through afternoon
and evening. Better chance for thunderstorms tomorrow, with a few
strong to severe storms possible, best chance along/south of
I-94.
A strong low level jet moving into the area by Sat evening will
likely result in the development of some low level wind shear.
Low clouds are likely to persist through Saturday, probably
dropping as low as 2-4 hft at times.

SHORT TERM...
Tonight through Saturday Night...Forecast Confidence is Medium.
Fog advecting from Lake Michigan is coming and going this
afternoon. A strong low pressure system will track across
central WI Saturday night. A warm front out ahead of it will bring
a round of showers this evening, with intermittent light
showers/drizzle/fog overnight. Several waves of light rain are
possible on Saturday: A weak round of showers is possible Saturday
morning, with a lull in the mid to late morning, then another
round of showers/chance of thunder early afternoon, then another
lull in precip is expected for mid/late afternoon. General thunder
is more likely with any showers that develop Saturday afternoon
as elevated CAPE grows with the approaching upper low/steeper mid
level lapse rates.
The best chance for strong/severe storms in south central WI will
arrive with the occluded front. Southeast WI has the lowest
chance for severe. Per the latest meso models, a line of discrete
thunderstorm cells is possible along the occluded front in south
central WI late in the afternoon, between 4 and 7 pm. There has
been a little slowing trend with bringing this through our area
over the past several model runs, due to the expected stronger
low. There is a short window where we will have high 0-1km shear
and helicity, but surface based instability is not very likely.
Depending on how shallow that inversion is, we might still be able
to realize a tornado potential for a stronger storm. The main
threat is still hail. Damaging winds is lowest threat.
LONG TERM...
Sunday through Thursday...Forecast Confidence is Medium.
The stacked low Sunday will shift to the northeast throughout the
day. Expect some lingering rain with the wrap around energy and
moisture associated with the low. The tight pressure gradient will
also result in some gusty southwest to west winds of 30 to 40 mph.
Quiet conditions will return with the shortwave ridge moving in
for Monday. Dry conditions look to continue through midweek as a
low pressure system passes well to the south Tuesday.
The end of next week looks a bit uncertain with the timing of the
upper level trough, but can't rule out rain chances for Thursday
and Friday.
AVIATION(21Z TAFS)...
Low LIFR/IFR ceilings continue near the Lake Michigan shoreline
due to the northeast winds advecting moisture off the Lake. Rain
chances increase this evening as a warm front approaches and will
persist through the end of the period. The best chance for rain
tonight is 7 to midnight, although scattered showers are possible
outside of that window. Once the main area of showers shifts
north, we should have drizzle/light rain or fog and low ceilings.
A weak round of showers is possible Saturday morning, with a lull
in the mid to late morning, then another round of showers/chance
of thunder early afternoon, then another lull in precip is
expected for mid/late afternoon. The best chance for
strong/severe storms in south central WI will arrive with the
occluded front, roughly between 4 pm and 8 pm. Southeast WI has
the lowest chance for severe.
MARINE...
Dense fog with visibility of 1 mile or less continues mainly over
the open waters with some lingering areas of dense fog in the
nearshore. The Marine Dense Fog Advisory will continue through tonight.
This may need to be extended due to warm and moist air flowing
over the region until a low pressure system moves through later
this weekend.
Persistent easterly winds will build high waves for the nearshore
areas of southeast WI late tonight through Saturday. Winds will
shift to the south-southwest Saturday night. Gusty southwest
winds will persist through Sunday night. Gale force gusts of
35-45kt will be possible Sunday across most of Lake Michigan.
Winds will then gradually diminish Monday.
