continuing to reinforce this record setting airmass. Clouds are
trending more scattered in nature so low/mid 70s look good.

Today through Tuesday:

May see a few sprinkles early this morning as a weak wave lifts
through the area, but the low levels remain relatively dry. Clouds
associated with the wave should decrease by later this morning,
though at least partly cloudy skies will probably remain into the
afternoon. Still expecting enough sunshine for yet another day of
cracking the 70 degree mark, with record highs in jeopardy again.
Given enough sun, a few spots may get to around 75.

Clouds will increase tonight ahead of an approaching low. Showers
are expected to move into the west overnight, with the east likely
remaining dry. Temps will stay very mild for this time of the
year, with lows likely in low or even mid 60s in the east. It will
be cooler towards the northwest as a cold front begins to move
into the area.

The front will gradually move through Tuesday, reaching Lake
Michigan by early evening. Temps will remain mild ahead of the
front. Precipitable water values ahead of the front will be
around record values, pushing 1.5 inches. This could result in
some locally heavy rainfall. Still looks like enough instability
as well for a chance of storms. A storm or two could reach severe
levels, with damaging winds the main threat, especially given a
lot of wind aloft just off the surface. Southerly winds will
increase as the front approaches, with gusts of 30 to 40 mph
possible across roughly the southeast half of the forecast area
during the late morning and afternoon. Southwest to west winds
behind the front will be punchy for a brief period across the
forecast area, with similar gusts in the 30-40 mph range possible
again.

.LONG TERM...
(Issued 412 AM CST Mon Nov 9 2020)

Tuesday Night and Wednesday:

Deepening low pressure over northern Wisconsin at the start of the
period will rapidly move northeast across the northern Great Lakes
into southern Canada during the evening. This rapid northeast
movement and mid-level drying in the wake of the low will diminish
rain chances quickly as most of the evening hours should be dry.
Blustery west to southwest winds in the immediate wake of the low
will pull colder air quickly across southern WI from the late
afternoon Tuesday through the evening as well. Temperatures will
fall quickly into the 30s. Evening gusts of 30 to 35 mph can be
expected as the cold air spreads in.

The weakening thermal trof and increasing subsidence from passing
weak high pressure should contribute to sunshine returning on
Wednesday. 925H temps will be around 15 degrees colder on
Wednesday compared to early Tuesday. So despite the sunshine, high
temps on Wednesday will be closer to mid-November normals, in the
mid to upper 40s.

Wednesday Night through Sunday:

Cooler, more seasonal conditions are still on track to remain
entrenched over southern WI through this period. Slightly warmer
temperatures are expected on Thursday due to a weak southerly flow
ahead of an approaching cold front. Temperatures may peak in the
lower 50s on Thursday pending more sunshine than cloud cover.
Clouds will be on the increase ahead of the cold front which will
pass across southern WI in the late aftn/evening on Thursday.
Column moisture in the vicinity of the front looks shallow and
confined to around 5-7K feet. Wl hold off on introducing any light
showers at this point, but if more mid-level moisture is
realized, then chance pops wl need to be introduced, especially in
the northwest CWA closer to the synoptic lift from a passing
short wave.

Weak pieces of short wave energy caught in a semi-split flow
across the western CONUS look to coalesce into a long-wave
negatively tilted trof that will move across the Upper Midwest
and western Great Lakes over the weekend. Medium range guidance in
reasonable agreement on keeping this trof open and progressive
with the main short wave energy moving through the region sometime
in the Saturday night/Sunday time frame. Warm air advection to
the north of a developing frontal boundary will bring a period of
light mostly liquid precipitation to the area later Saturday into
Sunday. However the Medium range guidance remains uncertain on the
track and timing of this system.

VFR conditions today with southerly winds on the upswing. As we
head into the overnight hours we should see breezy conditions
continue. Also with deeper moisture arriving we should see
ceilings lower to MVFR levels with some IFR conditions into
Tuesday. SOuth winds will be quite gusty Tuesday ahead of the cold
front. Low pressure will strengthen from Iowa into northern WI
throughout the day and evening. This will result in shra/tsra. As
the cold front whips through the area during the afternoon
southwest winds will shift to the west and northwest into the
evening with gusts over 35 knots looking likely. The passing cold
front will take any lingering shra/tsra along with it.

High pressure over the Mid-Atlantic will gradually shift eastward
today into Tuesday in advance of approaching low pressure. The
low will reach southern Wisconsin by around Tuesday afternoon,
lifting northeast and deepening as it reaches Lake Superior early
Tuesday night. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect mid-morning
today into mid-morning Tuesday due to gusty southerly winds and
building waves.

Southerly winds will increase even more ahead of an approaching
cold front Tuesday, possibly reaching gale force over the
nearshore waters. Winds will then become more southwesterly and
westerly Tuesday evening into Tuesday night after the frontal
passage, expanding the threat for gales to the open waters. Went
with a Gale Watch for the nearshore waters ahead of and behind the
cold front, with a Gale Watch over the open waters primarily for
behind the cold front.
