Forecast Period Tonight through Tuesday...Forecast Confidence is
High...
As high pressure moves by to our north, skies will remain clear
through tonight and into the morning hours on Tuesday. During the
morning and early afternoon hours tomorrow, skies should remain
clear enough for some decent mixing from 925mb and diurnal
heating. This should cause temperatures to quickly warm into the
mid to upper 80s during the day tomorrow. We will also have
humidity to contend with as the preceding airmass in association
with the remnants of Tropical Storm Cristobal will advect near 70
degree dew points northward into our area.
As we get into the afternoon hours tomorrow, we will begin to see
showers and thunderstorms from the remnants of Cristobal begin to
spread into our area. This precipitation will be fairly convective
and given PWATs of around 2 inches spreading into our area
tomorrow afternoon, any precipitation that does happen will be
heavy. Impacts will be mitigated by the fact that this activity
will be spotty and fast-moving. Impacts will also be mitigated by
the fact that Cristobal's track is now further west than
previously forecast. Areas west of Madison may see the most rain
out of this activity with more stratiform rain occuring in
addition to convective elements (~1.5 - 2 inches). Areas east of
Madison will see more scattered activity and less overall rain
accumulation (~1 inch).

northeast Tuesday evening, with mainly dry weather then expected
overnight as the forcing and deeper moisture move on.
The main shortwave and possibly a secondary surface low will then
move through on Wednesday, brining more showers to the area late
morning into the evening. Instability looks very limited with this
round, so left out thunder mention for now. Temps could push 80 in
the east Wednesday before the thicker clouds and precip move in,
with highs probably struggling to around 70 in the west.
Still a chance for some gusty winds Tue night and Wed, though
there remains a bit of uncertainty with the low track/timing and
resultant impact on winds. Also not a great setup for mixing down
higher winds, especially near the lake while winds remain
onshore. The overall trend has been for lower winds for this
period, though there is still the possibility for some higher
gusts.
Thursday through Monday...Forecast confidence is
medium:
Could see a few showers Thu as cyclonic flow remains across the
region and a wave may zip through. Looks mainly dry then for
Friday into early next week as high pressure slowly moves through
the area.
Models are in better agreement with temperatures for Thu-Mon, with
near normal conditions Thursday likely cooling to below normal
Friday through at least Sunday. Could see temps creep back toward
normal by Monday.
AVIATION(21Z TAFS)...
VFR cigs and vis should continue through the rest of the day,
evening hours, and even into the morning hours tomorrow. There
will be a period of gusty southeast winds for all terminals for a
few hours this afternoon. Winds will then die down during the
overnight hours. Tomorrow, winds will then become more E-SE
throughout the day and become gusty during the late morning and
early afternoon. Showers associated with the remnants of Tropical
Storm Cristobal won't move into the area until the afternoon
hours.
MARINE...
Breezy south to southeast winds are in store today gust to 15 to
20 kts. Unfavorable fetch will keeps waves rather low, however,
with waves generally confined to 2.5 feet or less. Another period
of stronger winds will be possible as the remnants of Tropical
Storm Cristobal move northward. This will likely lead to some
gales Tuesday night into Wednesday.
BEACHES...
Onshore wind flow during the afternoon and evening hours on
Tuesday will cause 5 foot waves and hazardous nearshore currents.
This will pose a swim risk for beachgoers.
