UPDATE...
Over the last hour or so the low levels have quickly moistened up
and have allowed snow to fall across the far south. The
progression of this snow could allow some to fall a bit further
north as well this still remains somewhat unlikely.

AVIATION(12Z TAFS)...
Snow has begun to fall across far southern Wisconsin with some
hindered VSBYS and lower CIGS. Periods of IFR VSBYS is likely for
KENW with most MVFR CIGS and VSBYS. The other terminals may see
some snowfall as well but it remains unlikely that it will impact
VSBYS whereas MVFR CIGS will likely stay to the south.

The rest of the day seems mostly quiet there will be chances for
lingering snow this morning turning into a slight chance for
sprinkles through the afternoon but generally after this system
pushes out much of the area should remain dry with VFR conditions.

Tonight models want to bring in some lower CIGS and VSBYS but
we remain likely to stay in VFR overnight.

SHORT TERM...

Today and Tonight...Forecast Confidence is Medium...

This morning we will continue to see the progression of a system
across northern Illinois associated with fairly strong shortwave
with plenty of moisture. Thus far little snow has made it up above
the WI/IL border due to dry air in the low levels but that
should begin to moisten up. This will likely allow for some light
snow showers in far southern/southeastern Wisconsin. Generally we
could expect up to a dusting this morning and as we expect to
moisten in the low levels a bit more. Snow showers may linger
into the mid morning to the southeast and may become a mix to rain
as we generally expect to warm up into the mid to upper 40s
today. However there is still plenty of uncertainty as we could
remain mostly dry this morning.

In the afternoon, the shortwave may continue to have some
lingering effects with slight potential for some sprinkles but
generally the low levels may remain too dry to allow for any
precipitation to reach the surface. Into tonight some models are
suggesting the potential for fog development but due to fairly
modest dew point depressions the chance for fog seems somewhat
limited. Models may be picking up on moisture from any snowfall
this morning but chances still seem weak. Otherwise Friday night
into Saturday morning looks quiet.

Saturday and Sunday...Forecast confidence high.

Breezy swly winds and warm advection will quickly ramp up on Sat
as strong low pressure moves ewd across srn Canada. This should
boost temps to upper 50s to lower 60s, while winds will gust to
35-40 mph. The trailing cold front from the passing low in Canada
will then pass late Sat nt-Sun AM, and models are indicating more
organization of the low to mid level frontogenesis along and
behind the front. Introduced slight chances of showers for now.
The cold advection will cool high temps back down into the lower
50s, but slightly cooler near the lake.

LONG TERM...Sunday night through Thursday...Forecast confidence
medium.

A strong low pressure area will move across Ontario and Quebec
from Sun nt-Tue. Breezy swly winds and mild temps will return for
Mon followed by a mostly dry cold frontal passage Mon nt. A sfc
ridge will shift ewd across the area for Tue aft-eve. A weak wave
of low pressure within nwly flow aloft will then move across the
Great Lakes for Wed-Thu while a stronger system moves across the
Ohio River Valley. Thus have a slight chance of rain in the
forecast for now. Temps will be near seasonal normals well inland
from Lake MI.

AVIATION(09Z TAFS)...

VFR conditions are forecast through the period for most of the
terminals. A system passing to the south will bring some light
snow into far southern WI this morning. This could result cigs and
even vsbys dropping to MVFR as light snow moves into KENW. Light
snow may linger into the mid to late morning. Into the afternoon
there will be slight chances for a few sprinkles for all the
terminals but the expectation is the area will remain dry with VFR
conditions from the afternoon through the remainder of the TAF
period.

MARINE...

Light snow showers and flurries are expected this morning for the
southern portion of the Lake. These showers and flurries could
drop visibilities between midnight and early Friday morning. Winds
today will be mostly light from the west. Into Saturday winds will
begin to pick up from the southwest with tightening pressure
gradient. A Gale Watch is in effect for the northern half of the
lake for Saturday afternoon through early evening. In addition
this period will likely require a Small Craft Advisory as well
with winds in the nearshore areas expected around 25 to 30 kts.
Into Sunday the winds will subside and shift to the northwest as
the front pulls through.
