.UPDATE...Expect increasing mid-high level clouds overnight as
high pressure ridge axis slides off to the east South winds will
also pick up after midnight. So biggest temperature drop is
expected this evening.

.AVIATION(00Z TAFS)...VFR conditions expected overnight with an
increase in mid-high level clouds. Increasing low level winds will
result in low level wind shear for a time late tonight into
Thursday morning. Fast-moving cold front will bring a period of
rain and snow showers to southern WI during the morning, with
gusty winds accompanying the showers. Ceilings may briefly drop to
MVFR levels during the showers and in cold air advection stratus
behind front Thursday afternoon.

SHORT TERM...
Weak pressure building into the region will keep conditions quiet
across the area for the next 12 or so hours. The last in a train
of quick moving storm systems will approach by daybreak tomorrow.
Southerly winds will be on the increase and become gusty as the
morning progresses. Combination of warm air advection and
convergence with the lead front will result in an area of
rain/snow showers. Tough call as to predominate precip type as the
lower levels may warm enough to keep precip mainly rain. That
said, it will be a fine line between snow/rain, so kept a mix
north and mainly rain south. This is a quick hitter, so it's in
around daybreak in our northwest and exiting to the east by
midday. Any snow accumulation should be minimal, but will continue
to watch northern areas in case snow ends up being a bit more of
the dominate precip type.
Winds remain gusty through Thursday afternoon/evening with
isolated showers. The polar front then moves through and brings
northwest winds and a cooler airmass. Nothing unusual for the time
of year, but we'll be back closer to near average for Thursday
night through Friday night.
LONG TERM...
Prospects for a warming trend to well above average still looking
good for the weekend with most areas in the low 50s Saturday
afternoon and flirting with 60s (especially west) on Sunday. This
should do a pretty good number on our remaining snow pack.
Sunshine will be a bit filtered through passing cirrus and
southwest winds will be gusty at times each afternoon.
Next chances for rain enter the picture later Sunday night into
Monday. While NBM PoPs have come in strong, still a bit skeptical
of exact placement of the best zone for rainfall. Entirely
possible to see a bit of a southward shift, especially given the
recent performance of all deterministic models and their
respective ensembles. If trends hold, southern WI will likely be
on the northern edge of the rainfall with a decent chance of
seeing one quarter to one half inch of accumulation. Will continue
to monitor QPF expectations given the ongoing snowmelt and any
repercussions on area streams/rivers.
The rest of the week looks to feature at or above average
temperatures and another chance at light rain during the midweek
period.
AVIATION(21Z TAFS)...
VFR conditions are expected over the next 24 hours. Weak high
pressure will slide overhead this evening, brining an end to our
current northwest breeze. Light/variable winds will give way to an
increasing southerly breeze later tonight, that becomes gusty
Thursday morning ahead of an incoming cold front. There is a
window of opportunity for a rain/snow mix between (roughly) 6 AM
and Noon, quickly exiting to the east thereafter. At this time,
ceilings and visibility appear to stay in the VFR range, though
will continue to monitor trends with subsequent forecast updates.
MARINE...
Quiet conditions are expected through this evening as weak high
pressure dominates our weather regime. Gusty southerly winds will
develop over Lake Michigan Thursday as a fast moving low pressure
approaches from the northwest. Have gone ahead an hoisted a small
craft advisory for the near shore for frequent wind gusts at or
above 23kt. There remains low confidence in a brief period of
gales Thursday morning over the open waters. The best potential
for gales still looks centered on overnight Thursday night into
Friday morning as winds shift to the northwest. A gale watch
remains in effect for this time frame, expanded to include the
near shore areas. High pressure builds into the region during the
day Friday, which will act to decrease winds and waves.
