and southeast to account for the limited potential. More of an
offshore component sets up on Wednesday which will bring an end to
any lake effect shsn potential.

UPDATE...

Some low lake effect clouds should continue to move into the area
this morning, with middle to high clouds overspreading the area.
Gusty northeast winds are expected today, with temperatures rising
into, or remaining nearly steady, in the middle 30s.

AVIATION(12Z TAFS)...

Gusty northeast winds are expected today and tonight, becoming
north by 12Z Wednesday. Gusts to 30 knots are expected near Lake
Michigan at times. Ceilings will gradually lower today, with some
1500 to 2000 foot ceilings at times this morning, They will
gradually become more widespread this afternoon, and linger
tonight into Wednesday morning.

Light snow should move northward into Kenosha by 04Z Wednesday,
and Milwaukee by 08Z Wednesday. Not sure if this will reach
Waukesha. It should linger at least into middle morning on
Wednesday, before ending by early to middle afternoon. Snow
accumulations should be around one half inch, with very light
rates of one tenth of an inch per hour. Could see visibility
values drop to 2 to 4 miles at times with the light snow.

A lake effect snow band may develop over the lakeshore areas
including Milwaukee and Kenosha during this time. It could bring
locally higher snowfall amounts of an inch or two. However, there
is a good amount of uncertainty over if/where this will occur, and
how long it will last. Keep up with the forecast as this period
draws closer.

SHORT TERM...

Today Into Wednesday...Forecast Confidence Is Medium.

Latest model runs continue to push a majority of the accumulating
snow south of the Illinois border during this time. The brisk
northeast winds continue to effectively reinforce drier air and
limit the northward advance of the snow today. Thus, today looks
mainly dry with ceilings gradually lowering. Kept temperatures
rather steady in the middle 30s for today.

Gusty northeast winds and building waves of 8 to 10 feet later
today and tonight will combine with high lake levels to bring the
risk of lakeshore flooding and erosion to the Lake Michigan
shoreline. Thus, a Lakeshore Flood Advisory has been issued for
the lakeshore counties from 3 PM CST this afternoon until 6 AM CST
Wednesday morning.

As the 500 mb shortwave trough passes south of the area tonight
into Wednesday morning, there may be enough upward vertical motion
and moisture/frontogenesis response to bring northern edge of the
light snow area into far southeast Wisconsin. Continued high PoPs
for just the far southeastern parts of the area during this time,
mainly from southern Milwaukee County to Walworth County and
southeastward. QPF is rather light, and snow accumulations should
be around one half inch or so.

A lake effect snow band may develop over the lakeshore areas
later tonight into Wednesday morning. It could bring locally
higher snowfall amounts of an inch or two. However, there is a
good amount of uncertainty over if/where this will occur, and how
long it will last. The NAM/GFS forecast soundings both show a dry
layer in the 850 mb to 700 mb layer, more so on the NAM. This is a
big limiting factor.

Some mesoscale models have a band developing, perhaps affecting
the areas from Milwaukee southward. Delta T values are a little
under ideal values as well. Thus, there is a good amount of
uncertainty on if this band will materialize. Kept PoPs going in
eastern parts of the area to account for this potential, but it
could end up dry except in the far southeast counties. Cooler
temperatures with brisk north to northwest winds are expected
Wednesday.

LONG TERM...

Wednesday night through Saturday night - Confidence is Medium

A broad trough encompassing much of the eastern half of the US
will stay in control of the weather during this period. We don't
start to see any real movement in the trough until Saturday into
Sunday. The north to northwesterly flow is going to bring a period
of below normal temperatures for the latter half of the week with
highs in the 20s and lows in the teens to single digits. Breezy
conditions at times could drop wind chills to near zero each
morning.

On and off clouds are expected through the period as weak upper
waves move through the broader trough. Dry conditions are forecast
during this period.

Sunday through Monday night - Confidence is Low to Medium

A ridge begins to build over the area to round out the weekend
and start next week. Increasing WAA early next week will bring 40
degree temperatures back to southern WI. There is some uncertainty
in a developing system Monday into Tuesday of next week and when
precip would spread into southern WI. Stuck to a blend of guidance
for pops next week due to the uncertainty.

AVIATION(09Z TAF UPDATES)...

Gusty northeast winds are expected today and tonight, becoming
north by 12Z Wednesday. Gusts to 30 knots are expected near Lake
Michigan at times. Ceilings will gradually lower today, with some

MARINE...

Frequent northeast gales are not expected to occur later this
afternoon and tonight, though could still see a few gusts to 35
knots over the southern two thirds of Lake Michigan. The gales
appear more likely in this area Wednesday into Wednesday night,
when north to northwest gales of 35 to 40 knots may occur.

Thus, have moved the Gale Watch period to Wednesday into
Wednesday night for the nearshore and southern two thirds of the
open waters of Lake Michigan. The Small Craft Advisory will now
linger through tonight, for northeast gusts to 30 knots and
building waves of 8 to 10 feet.

In addition, gales are not expected later Wednesday afternoon and
night over the northern one third of the open waters of Lake
Michigan. Thus, the Gale Watch has been cancelled for this area.
Northwest gusts may approach gale force on Thursday over this
area.

Otherwise, the gusty northwest winds to 30 knots will linger
Thursday into Friday over Lake Michigan, before slowly subsiding.
A Small Craft Advisory will likely be needed during this time for
the nearshore waters.
