.SYNOPSIS...
A complex frontal system and low pressure area will impact the
area tonight into Friday. Cool high pressure will build in
Saturday into Sunday. A strong cold front will cross the area
Sunday night followed by cold high pressure for early next week.

.NEAR TERM /TONIGHT/...
As of 630 PM Thu...Latest analysis shows center of Post Tropical
Zeta moving off the Mid-Atlantic coast this evening, with
secondary low moving through central VA and attendant cold front
approaching the Appalachians. Latest radar imagery shows
scattered light WAA showers along SE NC and coastal SC this
evening. Later tonight a significant shortwave accompanied by a
cold front will be pushing through the area, which could support
an isolated svr threat. Instability will be marginal with CAPE
values ranging between 500-1000 J/kg, highest along the coast,
with a significant amount of shear, but lapse rates aloft will
remain somewhat poor. However, a broken line of showers and
isolated tstms is forecast to push through between 03-09z and
could see isolated damaging wind gusts and/or an iso tornado.
SSW wind gusts beginning to diminish quickly inland, but will
remain strong along the immediate coast through early Fri
morning. Will drop Wind Advisory inland and keep up for the
coast with gusts to 45 mph through about sunrise Fri morning.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY/...
As of 330 PM Thurs...The strong cold front is forecasted to be
offshore by 12z tomorrow morning with conditions improving
throughout the day with strong CAA filtering into the area. Most
areas will dry out through the day but northerly winds will be
aligned such that bay effect moisture could keep mostly cloudy
skies with a few light showers across the northern OBX into
Friday evening. Expect highs to be cooler than yesterday with
highs in the mid 60s to around 70 degrees.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 5 AM Thursday...Cool high pressure will build in from the
north Saturday then move offshore Sunday. Another strong cold
front will push across the area Sunday night with reinforcing
high pressure building in from the west early next week.
Friday night through Saturday night...High pressure builds into
the area through Saturday, then slides offshore Saturday night
with dry and cool conditions expected. Lows both Friday night
and Saturday night expected well down into the 40s while highs
will struggle towards 60 degrees inland on Saturday.
Sunday and Sunday night...A northern stream shortwave and
attendant cold front approach the area Sunday and push across
the area Sunday night. Moisture will be limited with this system
and only expect wdly sct showers Sunday into Sunday evening,
with higher chances near the coast. Temps moderate towards climo
ahead of the front Sun with highs in the mid 60s to lower 70s.
Temps will quickly fall behind the front Sunday night with lows
expected in the low to mid 40s and could see some locations well
inland drop into the upper 30s.
Monday through Wednesday...High pressure quickly builds back
into the region Monday and Tuesday with bringing an even colder
airmass into the region and could see the first frost/freeze of
the season Tuesday morning. Highs Monday expected in the low to
mid 50s. Guidance is coming in even colder Monday night with
lows in the 30s and the ECMWF is indicating upper 20s will be
possible across inland locations. Only slight modification of
the airmass Tuesday as the high becoming centered over the area
with highs in the mid to upper 50s. The high slides offshore
Wednesday with southerly return flow bringing more earnest
warming with highs in the 60s.

Short Term /through Friday/...
As of 630 PM Thu...VFR conditions currently across the terminals
with gusty SW winds quickly diminishing early this evening.
Potential crosswind impacts continue for PGV and EWN. Period of
MVFR conditions likely between 03-09z tonight with area of
showers and iso tstms along and ahead of the front. The front
will move through early Friday morning and SW wind gusts 20-25
kt will become NW. VFR expected for Friday, though could see sct
cloud deck hover near MVFR.
Long Term /Friday night through Tuesday/...
As of 130 PM Thursday...VFR conditions prevail through
Saturday night. Widely scattered showers possible Sunday which
may bring brief periods of sub-VFR conditions with VFR
conditions returning by Monday. Gusty NW winds will return late
Sunday night and Monday as cold high pressure builds back into
the region.

Short Term /through Friday/...
As of 630 PM Thu...Latest buoy obs show SSW 20-30 knots with
gusts 30-40 kt and seas 5-8 ft north of Oregon Inlet and 7-11 ft
south. Main headline changes this evening, dropped Gales for
inland rivers, Alligator River and Albemarle Sound...and
replaced with SCA. Otherwise no sig changes, strong winds and
dangerous seas in excess of 10 ft expected through the period.
Expect Gale Force winds 25-35 kt to continue through tonight.
Seas will peak at 7-14 ft tonight into Friday. Winds will become
NW after the frontal passage with Gales continuing through most
of the day Friday across the coastal waters, except the
southern waters where winds will gradually subside to NW 20-25
knots and seas subsiding to 5-7 ft by the afternoon.
Long Term /Friday night through Tuesday/...
As of 5 AM Thursday...Conditions gradually improve late Fri
night into Sat with winds diminishing to 10-20 kt but seas will
likely remain above SCA criteria into Sunday, especially central
and northern waters. Another strong cold front will approach
the waters Sunday and push across the waters Sunday night.
Strongest winds expected Sunday night and Monday with CAA behind
with front bringing strong SCA with Gale Force gusts possible
as well as building seas.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 630 PM Thu...Gale Force SW winds will continue ahead of
the approaching cold front this evening, with minor sound side
flooding expected for the Outer Banks, mainly between Nags Head
and Avon including Roanoke Island and a Coastal Flood Advisory
remains in effect. Winds become westerly Friday and northerly
Friday night, and elevated water levels will likely tend to
shift more north and south, towards the northern OBX and
Hatteras Village. Low water levels will occur across the
western portions of the inland rivers, especially the
Neuse/Pamlico/Pungo Rivers, and Low Water Advisory continues.
Winds diminish late Fri night and early Sat with water levels
improving. Very rough surf expected, especially for the south
facing beaches and a High Surf Adv remains in effect.
