* WHAT...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, up to one foot of 
  inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near 
  shorelines and tidal waterways. Minor ocean overwash 
  inundating oceanfront properties. For the Beach Hazards 
  Statement, dangerous rip currents, large breaking waves, and 
  strong longshore currents in the surf zone.

* WHERE...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, areas along the 
  beaches, Albemarle, Croatan, Roanoke, and Pamlico Sounds, and 
  adjacent tidal creeks. For the Beach Hazards Statement, along 
  the beaches from Duck to Cape Hatteras.

* WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, from 5 AM Saturday to 
  noon EDT Sunday. For the Beach Hazards Statement, from 
  Saturday morning through Saturday evening.

* IMPACTS...Up to 1 foot of inundation above ground level is 
  possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal 
  waterways resulting in a low threat of property damage. Minor 
  ocean overwash is also possible where dune structures are very 
  week between Oregon Inlet and Cape Hatteras. Some roads and 
  low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns, and 
  homes adjacent to the waterfront will experience shallow 
  flooding. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away 
  from shore into deeper water. Dangerous shore break can throw 
  a swimmer or surfer head first into the bottom causing neck 
  and back injuries. Strong longshore currents will create 
  dangerous swimming conditions.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The most likely time for strong rip
  currents to occur is a couple hours either side of low tide,
  which will occur around 2:30 PM today.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be
closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of
unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone
property.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current remain calm.
Don't fight the current. Swim in a direction following the
shoreline. When out of the current, swim back to shore. If tired,
float or tread water until out of the rip current. If unable to
escape, face the shore and call or wave for  help.

Shore break occurs when waves break directly on the beach. It is
extremely important to protect your head and neck whenever you
are in breaking waves by keeping your hands in front of you at
all times.

Strong longshore currents can sweep swimmers and surfers into rip
currents, piers, jetties and other hazardous areas. In many
cases, the longshore current is strong enough to prevent swimmers
from being able to keep their feet on the bottom making it
difficult to return to shore.

.SYNOPSIS...
Strong high pressure will build in quickly from the west tonight,
settling over the region for the weekend, then sliding offshore
and remaining in control through late next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM SATURDAY MORNING/...
As of 745 PM Friday...The cold front has now moved offshore
with wholesale changes to the forecast to reflect the quicker
frontal passage, earlier CAA, and dry conditions inland. Clouds
will linger until the upper trough axis, which is currently
across the central Carolinas, moves offshore, but breezy
northerly flow is ongoing, and low level drying will preclude
any additional significant QPF. Though the cooling began early,
lows for tonight remain on track with mid 40s inland as cooler
high pressure builds in quickly from the west.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH 6 PM SATURDAY/...
As of 345 PM Friday...Strong high pressure will build over the
area behind the cold front for Saturday. Gusty N/NW winds should
subside during the afternoon. Some morning clouds will quickly
dissipate with mostly sunny skies from late morning through
Saturday afternoon. High temperatures area-wide will be in the
low to mid 60s.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 330 PM Fri...The long term period will be characterized
by a relatively stable upper pattern, with periodic shortwaves
pivoting around broad cyclonic flow over the northern half of
the CONUS, while a persistent upper ridge sits over the SE
coast. Consequently the surface pattern over the Carolinas will
change little, with high pressure in control Saturday night
shifting well into the North Atlantic but still wedging into the
SE CONUS.

Saturday Night and Sunday...Saturday night into Sunday morning
will be the coolest of the period with clear skies and little
wind expected leading to excellent radiational cooling. MOS
guidance continues to drift lower and nudged lows down further
into the low 40s inland, upper 40s to low 50s along the coast.
Low-level thicknesses rebound Sunday with highs back in the low
to mid 70s.

Monday through Thursday...High pressure wedge will remain in
place through the rest of the period keeping conditions inland
mainly dry. Focus turns to a weak coast trough expected to
develop early next week and linger through the week. This,
combined with moisture advection around the upper ridge, will
lead to some isolated shower activity mainly for coastal zones
and maintained slight chance PoPs mainly for OBX. Temperatures
stabilize next week with highs reaching into the upper 70s to
around 80 most days.

.AVIATION /00Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Short Term /through Saturday/...
As of 745 PM Friday...A shallow but potential cold front crossed
the terminals this afternoon, with lingering low level moisture
bringing low end MVFR to IFR conditions across the area early
this evening. Guidance is in good agreement that ceilings will
improve from west to east late evening through the overnight
hours, with VFR emerging at all terminals early Sat AM. Clouds
linger through much of the morning before clearing occurs
midday. Breezy, and occasionally gusty, northerly winds persist
through the TAF period.

Long Term /Saturday night through Wednesday/...
As of 330 PM Fri...A much drier and cooler airmass advects into
the region Saturday night with high pressure remaining in
control through the period. High confidence in VFR Sunday, with
the potential for patchy fog and/or low stratus in the early
mornings thereafter.

.MARINE...
Short Term /Tonight through Saturday/...
As of 350 PM Friday...Strong CAA has begun abruptly behind the
cold front which is now well offshore. All winds should be
N/NNW at 15-25 knots with a few gusts to 30-35 knots through
tonight and at least the first half of Saturday before subsiding
some in the afternoon. Seas increased faster than guidance
indicated, up to 6 to 8 ft east of Cape Hatteras already early
this evening, and will likely increase another couple of feet
overnight, peaking around sunrise at 8-10 ft feet. SCAs are now
in effect for all marine zones save the Pamlico River, with
inshore water SCAs continuing into Saturday.

Long Term /Saturday Night through Wednesday/...
As of 340 PM Fri...Winds will gradually weaken and veer
northeasterly Saturday evening at 15-20 kts. Seas across all
waters are expected to fall below 6 ft by midday Sunday.
Remainder of the period characterized with persistent NE flow of
10-15 kt with high pressure remaining wedged into the
Carolinas. This will keep seas at 3-5 feet. SCA may make a
return Tuesday and beyond as a coastal trough migrates towards
the coast, pinching the pressure gradient and building seas to
4-6 feet for the far outer waters.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 350 AM Fri...A perigean spring tide will bring increased
tidal ranges to coastal areas through early next week. Minor
coastal flooding is expected around the times of high tide for
vulnerable low-lying areas near tidal waterways. The highest
high tides are expected to occur on Saturday which, combined
with strong northerly winds behind a cold front that moves
through tomorrow, could bring more extensive impacts.
Specifically, overwash is possible for portions of the southern
Outer Banks where the dunes were weakened by last month's
swell/overwash event. Coastal Flood Advisories continue for the
Outer Banks and coastal Carteret/Onslow counties through
Sunday. Some brief water rises are also possible along the
lower Neuse River and southern Albemarle Sound, but this threat
is not expected to last long enough to warrant any headlines.
