.SYNOPSIS...
Tropical Storm Arthur will move well away from the NC coast
tonight. Another area of low pressure will develop over the
Southeast and Mid Atlantic and remain stationary over the region
through the week producing unsettled weather.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM TUESDAY MORNING/...
As of 525 PM Mon...All Tropical Storm Arthur headlines have
been dropped. TS Arthur will continue to move well away from NC
tonight. In the short term, in-situ damming will develop over
Eastern NC through most of the evening, with dry conditions
expected. Late this evening and especially overnight, warm
advection will begin over the area in response to a cut off mid
level low moving into the TN valley, resulting in ascent and
thus precipitation which should begin to develop after midnight.
The showers will become more widespread toward dawn as it they
rapidly overspread the region. PoPs will be increased to likely
east half late. The mid level pattern is forecast to remain
stagnant through the end of the week setting the stage for a
prolonged period of unsettled weather and the potential for
several inches of rainfall through Friday. It will remain on the
warm and humid side tonight with lows generally in the 60's.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM TUESDAY MORNING THROUGH 6 PM TUESDAY/...
As of 525 AM Mon...Showery weather, heavy at times through mid
afternoon is expected Tuesday and have increased PoPs to
categorical. With clouds, precipitation and easterly flow, high
temperatures will be cool reaching only into the mid to upper
60s north and low 70s south. Rainfall in most areas will be 3/4
of an inch or less.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
As of 3 AM Monday...The combination of a slow-moving upper low
settling to our northwest for much of the week, and a low-level
SE flow, will lead to periods of showers through most of the
upcoming week. Precipitation will gradually taper off by the
latter part of next weekend.
Tuesday night through Friday...A fairly strong 500 mb cutoff
low will drop southeast into the Tennessee Valley for most of
the midweek period. This low will be embedded in an omega block
pattern and will move very little for several days. Low-level
trajectories across eastern NC will be southeasterly leading to
additional transport of moisture as precipitable water values
linger between 1.5-1.8 inches. WPC has placed much of our area
in a Slight threat of excessive rainfall for the Tuesday through
Wednesday period. Additional heavy rainfall is possible on
Thursday as more deep moisture is advected into the region.
Latest ECMWF actually keeps the upper low in the region into
Saturday, while the GFS pulls the low north toward the Great
Lakes on Friday. Will continue with likely PoPs for Tuesday,
Wednesday. Will maintain previous forecast of likely PoPs
Tuesday and Wednesday, with high chance Thursday and Friday.
Cloud cover should hold high temperatures mainly in the 70s
through the period.
Saturday through Sunday...Uncertainty with the ECMWF keeping
the upper level low to our north, while the GFS has the system
well to our north over the Great Lakes. Will have low chance
PoPs in for Saturday. Finally some signs of returning to a
normal weather regime by Sunday as high pressure builds in from
the east and temperatures warm back into the low/mid 80s with
only small chances of sea-breeze driven convection.

.AVIATION /21Z MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Short Term /through Tuesday/...
As of 215 PM Mon...Widespread MVFR ceilings currently across
the area, with NW winds gusting 15-20 kt. Could see a brief
improvement to VFR late this afternoon and early evening. Pretty
high confidence that ceilings will lower to IFR (maybe LIFR)
late tonight and early Tuesday morning (between 6-8z). Expect
IFR ceilings to linger through most of the day Tuesday, at least
through the early afternoon then maybe lifting to MVFR briefly
during the afternoon. Increasing shower chances late tonight,
with better coverage expected Tuesday morning through early
evening. ENE wind gusts up to 20 kt Tue afternoon.
Long Term /Tuesday night through Saturday/...
As of 315 AM Monday...Fairly widespread showers are expected
for much of the upcoming week as low-level moisture interacts
with a deep closed upper low to our northwest over the Tennessee
Valley. Frequent periods of sub-VFR conditions are likely.

Short Term /through Tonight/...
As of 525 PM Mon...All Tropical headlines have been replaced
with SCA's. NW to N winds will diminish to 10-20 kt tonight but
are forecast to become NE to E Tue and increase to 20-25 kt.
7-10 ft seas this evening will subside to 4-7 ft overnight then
rebuild to 5-9 ft Tuesday afternoon.
Long Term /Tuesday through Friday/...
As of 320 AM Monday...Rough seas are expected to continue for
most of the upcoming week. While winds will generally be NE at
15-25 knots, before veering to SE/S later in the week, seas
will remain elevated due to backswell energy of Tropical Cyclone
Arthur, which will remain to our east for the next several
days. Seas as high as 8-11 feet are likely Wednesday into Friday
as the persistent swells from Arthur continue. Small Craft
Advisories will be needed into this week, once current Tropical
headlines are dropped.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 525 PM Mon...Swell from Trop Storm Arthur passing well
offshore will impact all area beaches through late this week.
This will result in stronger and more frequent rip currents
along with more powerful surf and shorebreak which will make
swimming dangerous for all levels for much of this week.
No changes made to High Surf Advisory for the beaches north of
Cape Lookout with rough surf and potential for minor erosion
through this evening. Localized ocean overwash will also be
possible for the beaches north of Lookout.
The combination of moderate easterly flow Tue and Wed and long
period swell from the remnants of TS Arthur will result in a
minor soundside flood threat across the western Pamlico sound
region, and ocean overwash and beach erosion across Hatteras
Island. The soundside flood threat will be greatest late Tue
through Wed, with the beach erosion and ocean overwash threat
continuing through Thu evening around the times of high tide.
Minor inundation 1-2 ft agl is expected.
