.Short Term...Today Through Thursday Night.
Latest 06Z surface analysis has a weak cold front slowly sagging
down the peninsula located just north of Lake Okeechobee region.
As this front washes out today, high pressure will build across
the Southeast CONUS. This high will become fairly strong and
control the weather pattern for South Florida for much of the
reminder of week ahead. Winds will begin to veer today from
northerly- northeasterly- easterly by tonight. With the strength
of this high, the pressure gradient will cause winds to begin to
increase as well as they veer. Onshore winds become breezy and
gusty by tonight.
With the easterly winds in place tonight lows will be above
normal, with the east coast in the mid to upper 60s and Lake
and Gulf coast regions in the mid/upper 50s to around 60.
Temperatures will continue to moderate as we move into Thursday
with daytime highs a few degrees above normal and thursday night
lows well above normal. This warming trend will continue from this
point on. It will remain dry through the period.
.Long Term...Friday Through Tuesday.
The extended period will be characterized by mostly dry
conditions and warmer temperatures, as South Florida remains under
the influence of strong high pressure at the surface and
particularly at low to mid levels. GEFS and NAEFS ensemble
systems continue to indicate heights at these levels in the upper
10th percentile. Through the period, the center of the surface
ridge will continue to slide eastward into the Atlantic, veering
winds out of the east by Friday and southeast through the weekend.
With a remnant boundary lingering to our south, a tightening
pressure gradient will result in elevated wind speeds, which will
bring hazardous marine conditions for the Atlantic particularly
through the first half of the weekend or so (see marine section
below). Additionally, southeasterly flow will allow for an
increase in moisture across the region. Therefore, the forecast
includes a slight chance of precipitation through the weekend,
mainly over the Atlantic and east coast metro areas.
Simultaneously, strong mid- level ridging will also become
established to our southeast, thwarting attempts for a cold front
to enter the region late in the weekend and into early next week,
while reinforcing warmer temperatures, and keeping any developing
convection low-topped and in the garden variety with no
significant accumulations anticipated if any. Due to strong nature
of low to mid level ridge, daytime highs across interior and west
coast could reach close to record levels with low temps along the
east coast close to max low record as well particularly through
the weekend and may be into Monday.
All in all, other than possible hazardous marine conditions
through first half of the weekend, warm temperatures are the only
other noteworthy mention for the period.

A cold front is slowly working its way down the peninsula.
Behind the front, a strong high pressure will build across the SE
CONUS. This will cause winds to increase significantly bringing
hazardous marine conditions to South Florida beginning tonight and
continuing through at least the first half of the weekend. Easterly
to southeasterly winds will be 20-25 knots with higher gust and seas
building up to 8-10 feet across portions of the Atlantic waters.
Therefore, a Small Craft Advisory will go into effect beginning
this evening. A few showers along the breeze will also be possible
over the Atlantic waters Friday through the weekend.

There is a moderate risk of rip currents at all Atlantic
beaches today. Onshore flow will increase with a strengthening high
pressure system this evening. This will lead to a high risk of rip
currents beginning this evening through the weekend and possibly
into next week for the Atlantic beaches.
