There is a chance of rain Saturday and late Sunday mainly along
the Central Coast. Temperatures will warm to near or slightly
above normal through the week with breezy to windy conditions at
times.

.SHORT TERM (FRI-MON)...11/817 PM.
***UPDATE***
It was a nice, cool fall-like day today with high temperatures in
the low to mid 60s across the board, equating to about 2 to 5
degrees of cooling from yesterday. There were some lingering
stratocumulus clouds from Ventura County southward late this
afternoon, but have cleared nicely due to increasing northerly
flow. The continuing northerly flow will likely keep low clouds
away tonight, except current fog product imagery is indicating
some low clouds in the San Gabriel Valley foothills extending
southward. These pesky low clouds may possibly inch their way
towards the Long Beach area overnight if an eddy develops. IR
satellite imagery this evening showed some mountain wave activity
across the Tehachapi Mountains, indicating gusty northwest flow
aloft. This decent upper-level support combined with weak offshore
northerly gradients will likely bring gusty N to NW winds across
the I-5 corridor and western foothills of the Antelope Valley, but
will likely remain below advisory level. There will also be gusty
N to NW winds across the Santa Ynez range and south coast of
Santa Barbara County through the night. Current observations show
gusts up to 35-40 mph over Refugio and Gaviota. Winds of this
strength will likely remain confined to the western portion so not
planning on issuing a Wind Advisory at this time.
There will be increasing mid and high clouds from north to south
through the night into Saturday morning. Saturday will be a
mostly cloudy day everywhere. A weak disturbance moving through
Nevada will bring a chance of rain to the north mountain slopes
and a slight chance across most of SLO and Santa Barbara Counties
by early to mid Saturday morning. Precip chances will likely
diminish by the early afternoon, but could possibly linger into
early evening. Any accumulation will be quite light, under a
tenth of an inch for most locations, with under 0.05" even more
probable. However, up to a quarter inch is possible along the far
northern slopes in Ventura County. Despite the increasing cloud
cover, the offshore flow will help bump temperatures up a few
degrees from today in most spots, except drop a few degrees for
the Antelope Valley.
Current forecast looks good and not planning any updates.

There will also be a slight chance of rain over northern SLO
County Sun afternoon into Sun evening as a dissipating cold front
moves into the area. Any pcpn over the that area on Sun will be on
the light side, generally less than 0.05 inch. Otherwise, skies
over swrn CA tonight thru Mon will be partly to mostly cloudy for
the most part as a mix of low, mid and hi clouds affect the area,
altho Sat night into Sun morning should be mostly clear over
VTU/L.A. Counties with dry offshore flow.
Offshore gradients to the east will quickly increase Sat night
into Sun morning (NAM fcst LAX-DAG -6-6 mb at 12Z Sun, a -7.6 mb
24-hour trend), with gusty NE winds expected over the usual wind-
prone areas of VTU/L.A. Counties. There will be the possibility of
Advisory-level wind gusts as well in some areas. Northerly
gradients will again increase Sun night into Mon, with another
round of gusty N winds expected, especially over the SBA/VTU/L.A.
County mtns and SBA County S coast.
Temps are forecast to increase slightly on Sat, with many of the
coast and vlys slightly below normal to near normal, then warm to a
few degrees above normal for many areas Sun before cooling a few
degrees for Mon. Highs over the coast and vlys will be in the 60s
to around 70 on Sat, warm into the upper 60s to low 70s on Sun,
especially away from the immediate coast, then cool back to the
60s to around 70 on Mon.
.LONG TERM (TUE-FRI)...11/152 PM.
The broad NW flow aloft will continue on Tue with H5 heights
around 574-576 dm. The EC forecasts upper level ridging over srn
CA Wed and Thu then a broad upper level trof on Fri. The GFS
forecasts slowly lowering H5 heights on Wed, with an upper level
trof on Thu, followed by a slightly higher H5 heights on Fri with
a NW flow aloft. Decided to lean more toward the NBM for the
extended period.
There should be varying amounts of mainly mid and hi level clouds
for Tue thru Fri. Persistent offshore gradients to the N and E
will bring periods of gusty N to NE winds to the area, which
should be strongest over the mtns and SBA County S coast. Most
areas away from the immediate coast should be several degrees
above seasonal norms each day, altho it looks like Wed will be the
warmest day overall during the extended period. The warmest vlys
and inland coastal areas should see highs in the upper 60s to low
70s on Tue, low to mid 70s Wed and Thu, and upper 60s to low 70s
on Fri.

At 0400Z at KLAX, the marine layer was 3000 feet deep. The top of
the inversion was at 4500 feet with a temperature of 12 C.
Moderate confidence in TAFs. There is a 20% chance of -RA after
06Z for KPRB and after 12Z for KSBP and KSMX. There is a 10%
chance for LA County sites after 12Z. Gusty offshore flow from the
north will likely keep low clouds away this evening, but there is
a 30% chance for low clouds after 03Z at KLGB and KLAX. A weak
disturbance moving through will likely bring MVFR cigs early
Saturday morning, and there is a chance for IFR cigs especially if
any -RA develops.
KLAX... Moderate confidence in TAF. There is a 30% chance of MVFR
cigs after 08Z, otherwise good confidence in VFR conditions
through 12Z. Afterwards, good confidence in MVFR cigs and there is
a 10% chance of -RA 14Z-21Z. Any east wind component will be 5
kt or less.
KBUR... Moderate confidence in TAF. Good confidence in VFR
conditions continuing through at least 12Z, then MVFR cigs are
possible through Saturday. There is a 10% chance of -RA 14Z-21Z.

Across the outer waters... Winds will continue at Small Craft
Advisory (SCA) level through Saturday night with a forty percent
chance of SCA winds continuing into Sunday morning in the southern
outer waters. Conditions will drop below SCA level across the
outer waters by late Sunday morning, then there is a seventy
percent chance of SCA winds and seas developing Monday through
Wednesday.
Across the nearshore waters of the Central Coast... There is a
thirty five percent chance of winds increasing to SCA level this
afternoon through Saturday evening. Winds and seas will likely
reach SCA level Monday and Tuesday. Otherwise, conditions will
remain below SCA level.
Across the inner waters south of Point Conception... There is a
thirty five percent chance of winds increasing to SCA level late
this evening through the Santa Barbara Channel and by midday
Saturday down through San Mateo Point. The conditions will remain
elevated through late Saturday night. Otherwise, conditions will
remain below SCA level.
There is a large northwest swell entering the coastal waters by
late Sunday, which would bring SCA level hazardous seas to the
Outer Waters and western portions of the Santa Barbara Channel
through Tuesday.

There will be higher than normal tides for all coastal areas on
Saturday through Wednesday. A large northwest swell will coincide
