.SYNOPSIS...07/215 AM.

Gusty west to northwest winds will continue across the area
today with cool temperatures. For tonight and Monday, north to
northeast winds will increase as conditions warm and dry. For
Tuesday through Thursday, well above normal high temperatures and
dry conditions will prevail.

.SHORT TERM (TDY-TUE)...07/231 AM.

Latest fog product imagery indicated low clouds moving into the
L.A Basin and San Gabriel Valley as well across the northern
slopes of the Ventura County mountains and Santa Ynez Valley.
The main story over the next few days will be the increasing
northerly winds and significant warm up through Thursday with
little in the way of low clouds in the forecast through the short
term and likely through at least Wednesday.

Gusty NW to N winds were affecting the western portion of the
Santa Barbara South Coast with gusts peaking around 55 mph between
Gaviota and Refugio earlier this morning, but have started to
taper off a bit. Northwest to north winds were starting to in
increase across the LA/VTU County Mountains including Sandberg
where gusts were around 50 mph.

The broad upper level trough of low pressure across California
will shift eastward into the Great Basin today, with increasing
northwest flow aloft across our region. Skies will be mostly sunny
today and continue clear over the next several days as a drier
northerly flow develops across the forecast area.

The main short term issue will continue to be the winds. Given
the expected pattern, gusty advisory-level winds will continue
across the Antelope Valley (gusts to 50 MPH) and the Central Coast
(gusts to 40 MPH) today with the strongest winds in the afternoon
and evening hours. As upper level wind support and north-south
pressure gradients continue to strengthen, several wind advisories
will go into effect late this afternoon or evening and be issued
with the morning package. A High Wind Warning will be issued with
the morning zone package and valid for both the Santa Barbara
South Coast and adjacent mountains as well as the L.A/VTU County
mountains starting early this evening through Monday morning as
gusts to 60 mph are expected. The hills above Montecito are likely
to experience the strongest wind gusts along with the I-5 Corridor
mountain passes. Wind gusts between 45 and 55 mph will be common
in these areas. Advisory level northerly winds (gusting between 35
and 50 mph) are also expected to filter into the Santa Clarita
Valley, San Fernando Valley, Santa Monica Mountains, Ventura
Valleys, and LA coast from Malibu to Hollywood Hills. By early
Monday morning, the latest NAM model is showing the Santa Barbara-
Bakersfield gradient peaking around -6 mb, with the LAX- Bakersfield
gradient between -6.5 and -7.0 mb. Local studies show these strong
north-south offshore pressure gradients are quite rare for early
June, well exceeding the 97th percentile for this time of year.

By Monday, the winds are expected to shift to the northeast, resulting
in a rare late season Santa Ana wind event. Latest 06Z NAM model indicates
the peak LAX-Daggett gradient is expected to be around -4.1 mb on Monday
morning, which is a little bit weaker than the earlier 00z run. This
in combination with decent upper level wind support (850 mb winds between
30 and 50 knots) is expected to produce some advisory level winds across
typical Santa Ana Wind prone areas of LA/Ventura counties, with wind
gusts generally between 40 and 50 mph across coastal/valley areas, and
45 to 55 mph across the mountains (including the Santa Monicas). If
the LAX-Daggett gradient ends up exceeding -4 mb as models are projecting,
this would be approaching record levels for this time of year, signifying
the rarity of this offshore wind event for June. As you would expect
with offshore flow this time of year, temperatures are expected to climb
rapidly on Monday, likely exceeding 90 degrees across portions of
the valleys and inland coastal plain of LA/Ventura counties.

The combination of gusty north to northeast winds, warming temperatures,
low humidities, and drying fuels has resulted in the issuance of
a Fire Weather Watch for portions of Southwest California tonight
into Monday.

The second main concern for the short term period will be the high
temperatures expected. Given the above pattern, a warming trend can
be expected for the area through Tuesday. By Tuesday, many areas will
be 10 to 20 degrees above normal. A Heat Advisory might need to be
issued for some coast and valley locations across L.A. and Ventura
Counties as well as the Santa Barbara South Coast as highs are expected
to reach the lower to mid 90s across the L.A. Basin and lower 90s for
the SBA South Coast, while the valleys reach the upper 90s. Low clouds
will not be a factor in the forecast through Tuesday, and likely
through part of the long term forecast through Thursday.

.LONG TERM (WED-SAT)...07/213 AM.

Both the GFS and ECMWF remain in good agreement with large scale
features through the extended period. synoptically, a flat ridge
will remain over the area on Wednesday then a trough digs south
over the Ern Pacific as it approaches the West Coast Thursday
through Saturday. Near the surface, very weak offshore flow will
prevail Wednesday morning with gradually increasing onshore flow
Wednesday afternoon through Saturday.

For Wednesday, skies will remain clear while temperatures exhibit
some slight cooling (especially near the coast) as weak onshore
flow returns. Still a very warm and very dry Wednesday.

For Thursday through Saturday, a noticeable cooling trend will
develop as stronger onshore flow returns as an upper level trough
moves over the forecast area. Overall, skies should generally
remain mostly clear although some night through morning low clouds
are likely to develop across coastal areas and possibly a few
valley locations such as the Santa Ynez Valley and San Gabriel
Valley.

At 0030Z at KLAX, there was a deep moist layer of around 5300
feet, with a minimal inversion.

Overall, moderate confidence in all TAFs. Mostly VFR conditions
across the TAF sites through the period. Still some BKN030-040
conditions across portions of LA/Ventura counties, however clouds
expected to dissipate after sunset. There is a 30 percent chance
of MVFR cigs developing overnight at KLGB and KSMX. Gusty NW-W
winds will be likely across coastal areas and the deserts
through the period and there is a chance of moderate turbulence.
There is the potential for some restricted vsbys in blowing dust
at KPMD and KWJF on Monday, as winds gust to 35-40 knots in the
afternoon hours.

KLAX...Moderate confidence in TAF. VFR conditions expected through
forecast period. There is a 30% chance of northerly cross winds
of 10 to 15 kt between 12Z and 16Z Sunday.

KBUR...Moderate confidence in TAF. BKN040-050 conditions expected
to dissipate later this evening. Wind shift to the north expected
on Sunday morning, likely remaining around 10 knots.
