.SYNOPSIS...29/818 AM.

Onshore flow will increase today ahead of an approaching storm
system and temperatures will hover around normal. There will be a
chance of light rain and mountain snow showers on Sunday along
with gusty winds and temperatures below normal. Dry weather and
sunny skies return next week with a warming trend expected.

.SHORT TERM (TDY-TUE)...29/147 PM.

A weak trough moved through this morning with some minimal lifting
in the mid levels that generated a few sprinkles in srn LA County
and some interesting cloud formations but otherwise no other
impacts. Main thing today was the strong onshore push that kicked
up a decent sea breeze and kept temps mostly in the 60s at lower
elevations, a drop of 15-20 degrees from Friday in many areas.
Counter-clockwise rotating low clouds over the bight region is a
precursor to a rapidly expanding and deepening marine layer this
evening, mainly south of SB County. We should see low clouds
rapidly developing during the evening hours and spreading inland
across LA/Ventura Counties behind a 6-7mb onshore push.

As the marine layer deepens overnight and cooler air moves in
aloft ahead of the next upper low some drizzle or light rain is
possible, especially eastern LA County up along the foothills of
the San Gabriel mountains.

We're probably looking at a reverse clearing pattern Sunday as the
upper low continues to drop south and a strong westerly flow
develops over the coastal waters. The combination of cooler air
aloft and mixing in the lower levels will likely lead to better
clearing near the coast but continued cloudy skies across inland
LA/Ventura Counties with a chance of some showers. Gusty west
winds are expected over the coastal waters and spreading onshore
by early afternoon with speeds up to 30 mph. With temperatures
mostly in the 50s to lower 60s at lower elevations it will be a
cool and brisk day by southern California standards.

The upper low is expected to track just west of Pt Conception
early Sunday evening then move south/southeast west of the Channel
Islands Sunday night before moving inland over northern Baja
Monday morning. This trajectory makes for a tricky precipitation
forecast as moisture is sparse and the flow aloft is predominantly
north to northwest which isn't favorable for precip. However, the
air aloft is very cold, around -30C, and lapse rates in the mid
levels are as high as 8.5C/km. So while CAPE values are
relatively low due to it being an overall very cold air mass top
to bottom, there is enough lifting in the mid levels to squeeze
out some light showers and can't completely rule out an isolated
thunderstorm, though clearly this isn't as favorable or dynamic a
system as we saw last weekend. But much like last Sunday many
areas will likely see at least some brief showers Sunday evening,
some possibly heavy for short bursts, with maybe some small hail
or graupel. While other areas will see nothing at all. So current
"chance" wording for most areas is a reasonable forecast.

Snow levels will be dropping rapidly Sunday afternoon and evening,
reaching as low as 2000-2500 feet Sunday night. While this
certainly poses risks for snow over the major mountain passes and
even the Antelope Valley, accumulations are expected to remain
under 2 inches for most locations except possibly the eastern San
Gabriels. As the low moves south and the low-mid level flow
shifts to the northeast there is the potential for wrap around
snow showers across the eastern Antelope Valley and San Gabriels
Sunday night into Monday morning and this will have to monitored
closely as that times approaches.

Otherwise the area will be drying out Monday and Tuesday with
offshore flow and warming temps. There is the potential for some
gusty north to northeast winds Monday into Tuesday across
LA/Ventura Counties that may require some wind advisories as we
get closer.

.LONG TERM (WED-SAT)...29/142 PM.

Quiet weather Wed/Thu with temps getting back into the mid 70s,
locally close to 80 in some of the warmer valleys under light
offshore flow.

Low confidence in the specifics beyond Thursday as models are
starting to show a change in the overall weather pattern starting
next weekend. Possibly a weak system coming through either
Saturday or Sunday but again a lot of disagreement on timing and
strength. Higher confidence in much cooler weather over the
weekend. The models have been pretty consistent showing a return
to a wetter pattern going into the following week.

.AVIATION...29/1814Z.

At 1730Z, the marine layer depth at KLAX was around 1400 ft deep.
The top of the inversion was near 3400 ft with a temp of 12 deg C.

Moderate confidence overall in the 18Z TAFs. Most of the TAF
period is expected to be VFR conditions at the airfields. However,
low clouds and MVFR conditions should push into KOXR, KCMA, KSMO,
KLAX, KLGB, KBUR and KVNY this evening and persist thru late
tonight before improving to VFR cigs, except remain MVFR at KLGB
and KBUR thru Sun morning. There is low to moderate confidence in
the timing of the onset and dissipation of these conditions, which
may be off +/- 1 to 3 hours. There is also a slight chance that
light drizzle or light showers could occur at times late tonight
into Sun morning at these airfields, which could lower vsbys to
MVFR at times.

Gusty SE winds should affect KPRB this afternoon into the
evening, with gusty mainly W winds at KPMD and KWJF this afternoon
thru Sun morning.

KLAX...Moderate confidence overall in the 18Z TAF. Most of the
TAF period is expected to be VFR. However, low clouds and MVFR
conditions should push into the airfield from about 03Z-10Z
tonight before improving to VFR cigs. There is low to moderate
confidence in the timing of the onset and dissipation of these
conditions, which may be off +/- 1 to 3 hours. There is also a
slight chance that light drizzle or light showers could occur at
times late tonight into Sun morning, which could lower vsbys to
MVFR at times. An east component of the wind will remain below 10
kt this morning. Gusty W winds up to 30 kt can be expected Sun
afternoon.

KBUR...Moderate confidence overall in the 18Z TAF. Most of the
TAF period is expected to be VFR. However, low clouds and MVFR
conditions should push into the airfield aft about 06Z tonight and
persist thru 18Z Sun. There is low to moderate confidence in the
timing of the onset of these conditions, which may be off +/- 1
to 3 hours. There is also a slight chance that light drizzle or
light showers could occur at times late tonight into Sun morning,
which could lower vsbys to MVFR at times.

.MARINE...29/155 PM.

For the Outer Waters, moderate to high confidence in the
forecast. Small Craft Advisory (SCA) level NW winds likely reach
Gale Force across the northern two zones (PZZ670/673) by early
this evening along with a building NW swell before continuing
through Monday afternoon. There is a 40%-50% chance these winds
could extend into Monday evening, followed by winds and seas
subsiding to below SCA levels Tuesday through Thursday. For the
southern zone (PZZ676), winds will increase to SCA levels by this
evening and persist thru early Sunday, before increasing further
to gale force, along with a building NW swell. These conditions
will persist through late Sunday night then diminish to SCA level
wind gusts Monday into Monday night. Winds and seas should subside
to below SCA levels Tuesday through Thursday.

For the Inner Waters north of Pt. Sal, moderate to high
confidence in the forecast. NW winds will likely reach gale force
by early this evening then persist through late tonight. Winds
and/or seas will likely be at SCA levels Sunday through Monday
night, then subside to below SCA levels for Tuesday through
Thursday.

For the Inner Waters south of Pt. Conception, moderate to high
confidence in the forecast. Winds are expected to increase to SCA
levels late tonight and continue through early Sunday afternoon.
Mainly western portions will likely have gale force winds later
Sunday afternoon through late Sunday night. There is a 50% chance
of SCA wind gusts Monday evening, otherwise conditions are
expected to remain below SCA levels Monday through Thursday.

There is a slight chance of thunderstorms across the waters
Sunday evening. Any thunderstorms that develop would be capable of
producing small hail, reduced visibility in heavy rain,
dangerous cloud-to-ocean lightning, and possible waterspouts.

.BEACHES...29/202 PM.

A large west-northwest swell will move into the coastal waters
tonight and Sunday, This swell will bring high surf to all west
and northwest facing beaches of southwestern California, starting
along the Central Coast by this evening, and to the beaches S of
Point Conceptions late tonight into Sunday. The high surf is
expected to persist into Monday evening. The highest surf should
occur on Sunday then slowly subside through Monday night. Surf of
9 to 13 feet is expected along the Central Coast, while south of
Point Conception, breakers up to 7 to 9 feet with max sets to 11
feet will likely occur. Dangerous rip currents will accompany the
high surf. Minor beach erosion will also be possible.
