Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or
stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly
in such conditions, stay off the rocks.

.SYNOPSIS...12/601 AM.

Temperatures will remain below normal across most of the region
through Friday, then slight warming is expected Saturday. Locally
gusty sundowner winds are expected this evening. More widespread
gusty northwest to north winds are expected Friday evening through
Saturday evening across southern Santa Barbara County and near
the Interstate 5 Corridor. Much warmer temperatures are expected
Sunday and Monday with some gusty offshore winds, then cooler
weather is expected by midweek.

.SHORT TERM (TDY-SAT)...12/859 AM.

***UPDATE***

Minimal updates to the forecast today. An upper level trough was
sliding through southwest California this morning generating a few
mid to high level clouds over the south coastal waters and LA
County. Otherwise, we did see a narrow band of fog along the Santa
Ynez River Valley from Lompoc to Vandenberg early this morning and
patchy low clouds near Catalina Island. That's all dissipated so
expect a repeat of yesterday with sunny and cool conditions along
with typical afternoon seabreezes.

NW winds did briefly gust over 30 mph at Gaviota last evening and
expect at least that or a little higher this evening in that same
area. Will also expect to see an increase in low clouds/fog for
the LA Coast and more fog in the Santa Ynez River Valley of Santa
Barbara County Friday morning. Northwest flow aloft will be on the
increase across the state on Friday with minor temperature
differences over today's highs.

***From Previous Discussion***

There will be some increase in N-S gradients across SBA County
this evening, which could produce some gusty sundowner winds
across southern SBA County. However, expect winds to remain below
advisory levels.

A very weak trough will swing across the region tonight and
Friday morning. The WRF shows that some stratus may try to
organize late tonight/Fri morning, mainly on the Central Coast
and Santa Ynez Valley, and across coastal sections of L.A.
County. Onshore gradients will Fri, so there will likely be some
gusty winds in the Antelope Valley Fri afternoon. Max temps may
drop a bit, but on the order of a couple of degrees at most.

W to NW winds at mid and upper levels will increase late Fri and
Fri night, and N-S gradients will sharpens. This should allow for
stronger winds across southern SBA County Fri night, likely
reaching at least low end advisory levels. Also, expect gusty NW
winds across the mtns of L.A. and VTU Counties, particularly
through the I-5 Corridor Fri night into Sat, winds winds possibly
spreading into the Santa Clarita Valley, western and northern
portions of the San Fernando Valley, and into the Santa Monica
Mountains on Sat.

The low cloud forecast for Friday night/Sat morning will be
tricky, but will probably be confined to coastal sections of L.A.
and possibly VTU Counties, and the Central Coast. In addition,
moist northerly flow will likely cause clouds to pile up on
northern slopes of the mtns of L.A. and VTU Counties and across
interior portions of SLO and SBA Counties. Expect skies to clear
in most areas by mid to late morning. There should be a few
degrees of warming on Sat, especially in coastal and lower valley
areas.

.LONG TERM (SUN-WED)...12/338 AM.

Heights will rise across the region on Sat night and Sunday.
Offshore gradients will continue to increase, initially more
northerly Sat night, then low level flow will being to turn more
northeasterly on Sunday. Expect the focus of the winds to shift to
locations favored by northeast winds, but it is still unclear
whether that will happen Sunday, at least completely. In any
event, expect gusty possibly advisory level winds in the mtns
and possibly the valleys of L.A. and VTU Counties Sat night into
Sunday, Skies should be clear across the region. Expect
significant warming on Sunday, especially west of the mtns.

It appears as though heights and thicknesses will peak across the
region on Monday, and there will be a weak to moderate Santa Ana
wind event. Expect Monday to be the warmest day, with max temps
rising into the 80s in most coastal and valley areas, at least
south of Pt. Conception. Would not be surprised if a few locations
had max temps near or slightly above 90 degrees. Advisory level
winds are possible Sun night/Mon morning, though it appears that
the models have backed off slightly on the magnitude of the
offshore gradients.

A broad trough will begin to approach the West Coast on Tue.
However, heights will still be high, and gradients will still be
offshore in the morning. So, although some cooling is expected,
max temps should still be well above normal. especially across
interior sections. Additional cooling is expected on Wed as
heights continue to fall and gradients turn onshore, but still
expect temps to be above normal.

At 18Z at KLAX, there was no marine layer.

High confidence in TAFs. Fairly low confidence in the forecast for
the LA coast and central coast later tonight in regards to marine
cloud incursion with possible LIFR conditions, otherwise good
confidence in VFR conditions across the rermainder of the region.

KLAX...Low confidence in the 18z TAF. There is a 40% chance of
VFR conditions through the period. Good confidence that an east
wind component will be 4 kt or less.

KBUR...High confidence in CAVU TAF.

.MARINE...12/1031 AM.

High confidence that winds and seas will remain below Small Craft
Advisory (SCA) level through Friday morning. However,there is a
30% chance of SCA level winds Thursday afternoon and evening
across the waters from Point Conception to San Nicolas Island. By
Friday afternoon or Friday evening, there is a 60% chance of SCA
level winds from Point Conception to San Nicolas Island, possibly
spreading into the western portion of the Santa Barbara Channel.
High confidence in widespread SCA level winds across all the outer
waters, including across the Central Coast Saturday through
Sunday night. There is a 30% chance of gale force gusts on
Saturday.

Very large high tides and high surf may result in minor coastal
flooding Saturday through Monday, especially on the Central Coast.

Barbara Coast, I-5 corridor and possibly into the Santa Monica
Mountains. Santa Ana winds Sunday and Monday with elevated fire
weather conditions in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties.
