PARISHES...WILKINSON AND WESTERN AMITE COUNTIES...

At 313 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
extending from near Kingston to 6 miles west of Darlington, moving
northeast at 65 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include...
Jackson, Clinton, Greensburg, Centreville, Woodville, Slaughter,
Gloster, Wilson, Norwood, Montpelier, Spillman, Darlington, Pride,
Fort Adams, Dolorosa, Felps, Greenwell Spring and Crosby.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

building.

Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to

.SHORT TERM...The region will remain at the base of a strong
longwave trough axis dominating the eastern half of the nation
today. At the same time, a vorticity max and associated plume of
tropical moisture will move into Eastern Texas and Southwest
Louisiana in the afternoon hours. Ample forcing and instability
across the region will combine together to produce another day of
scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. Precipitable
water values will remain in the 2 inch range today, and this will
support some locally heavy rainfall events. Given the antecedent
conditions now in place, it is prudent to leave a flash flood
watch in place for the entire forecast area through this evening.
The thunderstorm activity should gradually diminish through the
mid and late evening hours as instability wanes. Some drier air
is also expected to move over the region late tonight into
tomorrow morning, and this will drop precipitable water values
down to around 1.5 inches. As a result, overall convective coverage
late tonight into late tomorrow morning should be 20 percent or
less.

The slightly drier airmass will remain in place tomorrow afternoon
with precipitable water values in the 1.75 range. A broad upper
level trough and region of higher omega values will remain parked
across eastern Texas and Louisiana, and fully expect to see
scattered showers and thunderstorms develop during the afternoon
hours. This convection will be highly diurnal and should begin
dissipating in the mid to late evening hours.

The vorticity max mentioned earlier over east Texas and southwest
Louisiana will push east across the forecast area on Saturday.
Deeper tropical moisture will accompany this upper level vort
lobe, and precipitable water values should surge back into the 2
to 2.25 inch range. This will allow for increased convective
activity Saturday afternoon, and have high end chance POP in the
forecast. Conditions may even be supportive of likely POP in the
60 to 70 percent range on Saturday, but have opted not to go that
high for now to better match our neighboring forecast offices.
With high PW values in place, there could be some locally heavy
rainfall of in excess of 2 inches with some of the storms. The
vort lobe will pull east by Saturday night, and expect to see
only isolated convection through the overnight hours.

.LONG TERM...Sunday is an interesting day as a shortwave ridge
axis is expected to begin developing over the area. However,
relatively high precipitable water values in excess of 2 inches
will still be in place. Although there will be limited forcing
aloft to support convective development, model soundings show
ample instability will be in place. This instability combined with
the high theta e airmass will support scattered to numerous
shower and thunderstorm development mostly in the late morning and
afternoon hours. Initial formation will likely be along mesoscale
boundaries like the seabreeze front. The convection should quickly
dissipate in the evening hours, and expect to see mainly dry
conditions by midnight on Sunday night.

Monday through Wednesday will be very typical Summer weather days.
A weak shortwave ridge axis will linger over the area in the upper
levels, and a Bermuda high pattern will dominate in the low
levels. Precipitable water values will tend to range from 1.75 to
2 inches, and MLCAPE values of 1500 to 2500 J/KG will be
supportive of diurnally forced scattered convective development
each day. Convection will likely fire up on mesoscale boundaries
throughout the day, and will start forming in the late morning
before ending in the mid evening hours.

Conditions will turn a bit more unsettled by next Thursday as a
northerly flow regime develops and a weak northern stream trough
axis takes hold of the Mississippi Valley. Given the more
favorable upper level dynamics, have bumped up POP values to high
end chance for Thursday afternoon.

.AVIATION...A period of low ceilings and some patchy fog may
impact KMCB around 12z this morning. Similar conditions may also
form at KMCB around 12z tomorrow morning. Otherwise, VFR
conditions are expected at the terminals outside of the threat of
convection. VCTS wording is in the forecast to reflect this
convective risk. If a storm does pass directly over a terminal, a
brief period gusty winds and IFR conditions could occur.

.MARINE...A prevailing Bermuda high pattern will continue to
dominate the coastal waters through early next week. Onshore flow
ranging from 5 to 15 knots and seas of 1 to 3 feet can be
expected. There will likely be some shower and thunderstorm
activity possible in the nearshore waters, sounds, and tidal lakes
each day, and a few waterspouts could develop each morning as
these showers and thunderstorms form. PG

along a line extending from near Opelousas to near Grosse Tete.
Movement was northeast at 35 mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph are possible with these storms.

Baton Rouge, Zachary, Baker, Denham Springs, Plaquemine, Port Allen,
New Roads, Jackson, St. Francisville, Clinton, Oak Hills Place, St.
Gabriel, Addis, Brusly, Livonia, Maringouin, Slaughter, Fordoche,
Rosedale and Grosse Tete.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may
cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
