the Berwick floodwall will flood. River traffic restrictions will

.UPDATE...
A surface low pressure wave is noted around the Beaumont Texas
area currently, with a warm front extending eastward along the
I-10 corridor with a cold front southwestward along the Texas
coast. This surface wave is expected to move northeast toward
central Louisiana by around noon time, then off into north central
Mississippi by late afternoon. This will push the warm front
northward east of the low track with the cold front moving in from
the west quickly behind the low. Therefore, warmest temperatures
and best instability will be across east central and south central
Louisiana, where a few storms may develop this afternoon. However,
best forcing and lift seem to be in the cool sector behind the
front, and this should limit the strength of the convection.
Short term hazard continues to be the marine dense sea fog
advisory. The sea fog will gradually lift from west to east during
the afternoon hours as cooler air moves in with a wind shift to
the west then northwest.

AVIATION...
Sfc obs show VLIFR conditions prevailing across the entire
forecast area with ceilings aob 300 feet. Visibilities are a
little more variable with sites closer to the coast generally aob
1/2sm while nrn sites are closer to 2sm. Needless to say flying
conditions will continue to be poor through the morning with
ceilings remaining generally below 1k feet and vsbys only slowly
rising. Plus we'll begin to see more widespread shower activity as
an area of low pressure approaches, plus the old frontal boundary
to our south lifts back nwd. Main threat for convection comes this
afternoon as the primary cool front approaches with the definite
chance for thunderstorms ahead of/along it. Ceilings should
generally be MVFR this afternoon with better visibilities (except
around the storms). Post-fropa this evening, showers should clear
out while winds shift to a nwrly, then nrly direction. Ceilings
should improve drastically late in the period.

PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 345 AM CST Wed Feb 12 2020/
DISCUSSION...A frontal boundary is stalled along the coast this
morning and stretches from around 30 miles south of Galveston,
into Vermilion Parish around Pecan Island and through north
sections of Saint Mary Parish around Franklin. Fog is occurring on
either side of the boundary, however with the higher dewpoints
over the coastal waters visibilities are down to around 1/4 of a
mile. An area of low pressure is over the gulf waters southeast of
Corpus Christi.
This morning the low will move northeast toward the upper Texas
coast while the frontal boundary lifts north. This will likely
spread the dense sea fog into the coastal areas and pull in the
higher dewpoints. A dense fog adv may be extended inland during
the next couple of hours. The low is expected to travel from
around Houston across the East Texas Lakes this morning and into
north central Louisiana by afternoon. East of this line the
temperatures are expected to rise into the 70s with dewpoints in
60s to around 70. This warm and unstable air mass may combine with
modest shear to produce an isolated severe storm or two today.
The main threat will be gusty winds, however and isolated tornado
can not be ruled out.
Behind the front tonight a colder air mass will move in, and dry
conditions are expected into the weekend. However this will be
short lived as the ridge quickly moves east of the area by Sunday.
Low pressure will develop in the plains by late Sunday as the
ridge departs and this will once again pull the warm and humid
gulf air mass north. The southern jet will again be active with
multiple disturbances passing the region causing a string of gray
days with the chance of rain Sunday through mid week.
MARINE...Sea fog will be the main concern today, however a cold
front will sweep through late today or this evening. This will
clear out the fog. A moderate offshore flow is expected Thursday
through Friday night.
A warmer and moist air mass will return again next week behind a
warm front that will lift north Sunday.
