...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 PM CDT THIS
AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Heat index values from 99 degrees to as high as 105 
  degrees. 

* WHERE...Across portions of the following parishes: Cameron... 
  Calcasieu...Beauregard...Allen and Vernon. 

* WHEN...1 pm until 4 PM today.

* Impacts...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat 
  illnesses to occur, especially for those who do not have 
  access to air conditioning due to power outages. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned
room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and
neighbors.

Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency, call 9 1 1.

.DISCUSSION (Today through Friday)...500mb low across the western
United States and a 500mb ridge across the most of the southeast
U.S. will continue to allow cooler air across the Rockies to
filter into northwest Texas as warm air continues to advect
northward across southeast Texas into southwest Louisiana ahead of
a weak cold front expected to stall across east Texas this
afternoon. That boundary will be a focus for showers and
thunderstorms to develop across east TX into western LA today so
will mention a slight chance to chance of rain across the western
portions of the forecast area. In addition...heat index values are
expected to reach at least 100 degrees this afternoon across
portions of southwest LA this afternoon and with the ongoing power
outages...will issue another heat advisory for the parishes
impacted by both today. Subsidence is expected to increase across
southeast LA this afternoon into this evening with a 500mb
inverted trough across the northeast Gulf of Mexico. Will keep a
mention of showers and thunderstorms across extreme western
portions of the forecast area this evening. As the weak 500mb
inverted trough moves westward Friday...rain chances will increase
across southeast LA into eastern portions of the forecast area Fri
afternoon.

Friday night through Wednesday...Low to mid level moisture will
increase across southeast LA Fri night as the 500mb inverted
trough across the northern Gulf of Mexico moves westward. Rain
chances will increase across southern LA from east to west
Saturday as a result. Farther northwest...the 500mb low across the
western U.S. is expected to move eastward into the north-central
plains Friday as a short wave trough and continue moving eastward
into the Midwest U.S. Saturday. This will bring a weak cold front
through northeast TX Sunday and provide a high chance of showers
and thunderstorms across southern LA through the rest of the
weekend into early next week as the front moves into southern LA
Monday. In addition...a surface trough across the eastern Gulf of
Mexico Monday is expected to drift westward Tuesday keeping
moisture and rain chances high across the northern Gulf of Mexico
coastline through the rest of the forecast period.

.MARINE...Seas were near 2 feet with east to southeast winds near
8 knots at buoy035 at 3:10am this morning. Light east to northeast
winds will prevail across the coastal waters today with a
stationary frontal boundary across the northeast Gulf of Mexico
and a stationary frontal boundary across east Texas this
afternoon. The pressure gradient will remain relatively weak
across the northern Gulf of Mexico Friday with weak low pressure
across the northeast Gulf and the stationary frontal boundary
across extreme east Texas. Light to moderate northeast winds
Friday will diminish Saturday but will veer to the east as the
weak area of low pressure across the northeast Gulf drifts
westward. Winds will remain light from the east across the coastal
waters Sunday as a cold front moves through northeast Texas Sun
afternoon. The front is expected to move into southern Louisiana
Monday and winds are expected to shift to the north across the
western coastal waters in the wake of the front but remain light
as winds remain light and variable along and ahead of the front
across the rest of the coastal waters.
