.DISCUSSION...
All is quiet and uneventful across the Florida Keys this morning
(with the exception of some finicky northeast to east breezes).
GOES-East infrared imagery quickly reveals the elephant in the
room, now Hurricane Isaias rapidly gaining organization as it
pulls northwestward away from Hispaniola. An interesting surge of
easterlies is also apparent upstream on satellite imagery,
seemingly originating from deep convection associated with Isaias
yesterday and racing westward near 30 knots across the Bahamas
overnight. A beefy line of cumulus precedes the wind surge and
has cleared Andros at the time of writing. Miami radar detects a
concentric line of showers with this leading edge, now approaching
the southeastern Straits of Florida. Still not convinced this
feature will survive intact as it approaches the island chain, but
certainly something to watch as it would have implications on the
forecast today. Assuming this feature does indeed wash out then
we expect only slight chances for precipitation today with fairly
continuous moderate to fresh northeast to east breezes.

Concerning the remainder of the forecast, only minor adjustments
were made to the previous package through the next 7 days.
Hurricane Isaias remains the primary concern through the weekend,
though direct impacts to the island chain are looking increasingly
unlikely. That said, the close proximity of the tropical cyclone
will at least increase our PoPs marginally (though still quite
moisture starved on the dry, sheared southwestern quadrant of the
storm). We will also likely see a short period of breezy
conditions beginning today and peaking tonight as the center of
Isaias traverses the northwestern Bahamas. All model guidance is
in good agreement keeping the track well to our east, though there
are notably drastic differences in forward speed of the cyclone
beginning Saturday night into Sunday morning. These differences
will have dramatic implications on the ultimate track of Isaias,
but given that the tropical system will already be downstream of
the Florida Keys we should be in the clear. As the circulation
works its way up the eastern coast of Florida we will get into
somewhat unusual low-level westerly flow on Sunday which will
support reverse cloud line formation with slightly enhanced PoPs
for the Upper Keys. By next week the subtropical ridge axis
attempts to nose back into central Florida from the western
Atlantic, bringing a return of more typical east to southeast low-
level flow. Another tropical disturbance could be meandering
behind Isaias come mid-week, perhaps stalling between Bermuda and
Florida if current model guidance is to be believed. The extended
forecast continues to lean towards climatology (PoPs 30-40%) given
the inherent uncertainty in the evolution of the tropics and
relative lack of ridging aloft.

.MARINE...
Moderate to fresh northeast to east breezes prevail across the
coastal waters of the Florida Keys early this morning. Small Craft
should Exercise Caution today as Hurricane Isaias crawls through
the Bahamas, eventually reaching the closest approach to the Keys
late tonight into Saturday morning. Fresh to strong northeast
breezes are increasingly likely to coincide with this approach
from Hurricane Isaias, which will likely require the issuance of a
Small Craft Advisory for at least a portion of the coastal waters
(eastern Hawk Channel and the Florida Straits with the highest
confidence). A short period of gentle to moderate westerly breezes
will wrap up the weekend before a return to more typical east to
southeast breezes for the majority of next week.

.AVIATION...
VFR conditions will prevail at the Key West and Marathon terminals
today. Winds will remain east to northeast near 10 knots with
occasional gusts near 15 knots. Isolated, fast moving showers are
possible later tonight in association with storms developing this
afternoon over the mainland.

.CLIMATE...
In 1952, Marathon experienced its wettest July ever, with 8.67
inches of rain recorded. So far this month Marathon has recorded
10.56 inches of rain, on track to beat the previous record by
nearly 2 inches. Precipitation records date back to 1950.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for the Florida Keys and
adjacent coastal waters.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT

Isolated thunderstorms will be possible today and tonight, with
locally gusty winds and lightning being the primary hazards.

A Small Craft Advisory is expected for at least a portion of the
coastal waters beginning tonight. The highest confidence is across
the eastern Hawk Channel and Florida Straits, off of the Middle
and Upper Keys.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY

Hurricane Isaias is expected to remain well east of the Florida
Keys and adjacent coastal waters as it treks northward on
Saturday, but a Small Craft Advisory may still be needed for
eastern portions of the coastal waters through at least Saturday
morning.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms will also be possible
Saturday through Thursday, with locally gusty winds and cloud to
surface lightning strikes being the primary hazards.
