Showers developed across the interior and western areas of Puerto
Rico this afternoon and lingering through the evening hours. TJUA
dual pol showed rainfall total ranging from 1.0 to 1.5 inches with
the highest total observed over Mayaguez. These showers have moved
west of Mayaguez and currently over the Mona passage. Tonight an
isolated shower is possible mainly over portions of eastern and
northern Puerto Rico, as well as the adjacent islands east of the
island. A surface high will strengthen as it moves east across the
Atlantic waters, this will cause brisk easterly winds over the
region through Thursday. The easterly winds are forecast to pull
patches moisture from a stalled frontal boundary to the northeast
of Puerto Rico. The scat moisture will cause a few showers to
develop during the early morning hours across eastern and northern
Puerto Rico, and the eastern adjacent islands. Then during the
afternoon showers are forecast to develop across the interior and
western areas of Puerto Rico, as a result of local and diurnal
effects. Although, showers are forecast to develop, a drier air
mass in the mid to upper-levels of the atmosphere will cause
showers to be brief, and produce light rainfall amounts.

VFR conds are forecast to prevail across all terminal sites
through 05/16Z. A few ISO/SCT SHRA are possible across eastern
and northern PR through 05/12Z. VCSH/SHRA will develop near
terminal sites TJSJ/TJMZ/TJBQ by 05/16Z and persist until 05/23Z.
SFC wnds E at 145-20 kts with higher gusts.

Across the regional waters, a northerly swell will result in
choppy seas of up to 7 feet across the Atlantic waters and the
Mona passage, however, across the nearshore Atlantic waters, seas
of up to 6 feet. Therefore, a small craft advisory is in effect
for the outer Atlantic waters and the Mona passage. Across the
rest of the local waters, seas of up to 6 feet are expected. There
is a high risk of rip currents across the north- facing beaches
of Puerto Rico and Culebra

SYNOPSIS...
A decaying frontal system will remain north of the forecast area.
As a surface high pressure strengthen, winds will pick up by
Wednesday and Thursday. Hazardous marine conditions are expected
for the Atlantic offshore waters through early tonight.
SHORT TERM...Rest of today through Thursday...
A few showers will continue along the local waters in association
with a decaying frontal boundary located to the north. Some of
these showers briefly affected parts of the north coastal area
earlier in the day. For the rest of today, mostly sunny and fair
weather conditions are expected across most of the area as limited
moisture availability and a building ridge aloft will act to
limit shower activity once again. However, brief showers may
develop across western Puerto Rico during the afternoon hours
mainly due to daytime heating and local effects.
A mid-to upper level ridge will continue to hold north
of the region. At the surface, a high pressure system will continue
to move toward the east across the central and western Atlantic
while strengthening. Therefore, the pressure gradient will begin
to tighten with winds becoming a bit stronger on Wednesday and
mostly coming out of the east. In addition, this wind flow will
carry patches of moisture associated with the front north of the
region. As a result, and in combination with local effect, showers
are expected to develop across the interior and western Puerto
Rico and downwind from El Yunque, Vieques, Culebra and the U.S.
Virgin Islands. Then, by Thursday, winds will continue to pick up
and will shift more from the east-southeast. Although passing
showers will continue over the eastern sections of the forecast
area, moisture content is expected to decrease, and therefore, the
frequency of showers should diminish as well.
LONG TERM...Friday through Tuesday.../issued 517 AM AST Tue Feb 4

The aforementioned mid- to upper-level ridge will remain in place,
however, a TUTT-low forecasted to amplify over the Central
Atlantic will weaken it during the weekend. Although deep
convection is not expected to affect the region, the available
moisture will bring periods of rain from time to time across the
windward sections of PR/USVI, making its way into the interior
and western sections of PR during the afternoon.
The eroding ridge will make its way for unstable weather
conditions early next week. Model guidance is suggesting the
development of unstable weather conditions after Sunday. At mid-
and upper-upper levels, 500mb temperatures and 250mb heights may
drop suddenly after Sunday. In addition, mid-level humidity, as
well as low-level and mid-level instability, may increase. That
said, and if models are correct, the potential for the development
of organized convection across the region will increase during
that time.

across the offshore Atlantic waters, where a Small Craft Advisory
is in effect. Seas up to 6 feet are expected elsewhere, and small
craft operators are urged to exercise caution. Winds up to 20
knots are expected to continue through tomorrow. For the
beachgoers, there is a high rip current risk for the northern
coast of Puerto Rico and Culebra.
