A patch of moisture brought showers and clouds across the islands.
The Doppler radar detected most of the activity across the
northern half portion of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Although periods of moderate rains were detected, no significant
rainfall accumulation was observed. The southern sections of
Puerto Rico can expect stable weather conditions with no
significant weather threat at this time.

Fair weather will persist with just a few quick passing showers
across the local flying area and over TJSJ/TIST/TNCM/TKPK at
times. SHRA will spread across the interior/SW PR btwn 17/16-22z.
WInds will continue from the E-ENE at 10 kt or less increasing at
10 to 15 knots with some sea breeze variations after 17/13z.

Mariner can expect seas up to 6 feet across the expose waters and
up to 4 across protected areas. Small craft operators should
exercise cautions across the Atlantic and Caribbean expose waters.
Seas will drop below 5 feet tomorrow, but the combination of a
northerly swell and wind-driven seas will create another round of
hazardous marine conditions by the weekend into early next week.

SYNOPSIS...
Drier than normal air is in place across the forecast area. Patches
of moisture embedded in the trade winds could bring isolated showers
today, and isolated to scattered showers tomorrow. Currently, there
are few showers in the area, over the local waters. There remains
the potential for isolated showers later this afternoon, mostly over
higher terrain. These fair weather conditions contribute to the
elevated fire risk. Saturday will bring the remnants of an old
frontal boundary that will slowly pass through the region this
weekend, which will likely bring somewhat wetter conditions.
SHORT TERM...Rest of Today through Saturday...
Significantly drier conditions, compared to the past several days,
have moved in over the forecast area. The precipitable water from
the 12Z upper air sounding was 0.87 inches, compared to 1.78 inches
from 24 hours prior. This is also significantly lower than climate
normal for this time of year. With the weakening of the ridge
stretched across the central Atlantic, the strong winds associated
with the pressure gradient are gradually diminishing. Brief patches
of moisture carried in embedded in the trade winds could cause some
brief shower activity, but rainfall is not expected to be
significant; and, otherwise, fair weather is expected.
The weak remnants of a frontal boundary push into the region from
the north on Saturday. This will bring an increase in moisture into
the area. Aloft, a mid-level ridge will be pushing over the area,
providing stability, and moisture will generally remain in the
lower levels. Even so, the increased moisture will be sufficient
to provide an increase in shower activity. Isolated to scattered
showers are anticipated, though significant rainfall is not
expected. Also on Saturday, another ridge builds into the central
Atlantic. Because of this, enhanced trade winds are expected to
return to the area. Speeds in excess of 20 knots, especially over
the local waters, are anticipated by late Saturday.
LONG TERM...Sunday through Thursday...From Prev Discussion...
Recent model guidance no longer supports a drier weather pattern
during the long-term forecast period. These guidance now calls for
the remnants of an old frontal boundary, steered by a surface high
pressure over across the western Atlantic, to continue moving into
the region under a generally east-northeast wind flow on Sunday.
Although favorable conditions aloft are not expected due to the
presence of a mid- level ridge, shallow shower activity is still
expected with these patches of low-level moisture. By Monday, winds
are expected to shift from the east-southeast and then gradually
from the south-southeast on Tuesday as a surface induced trough
approaches the region from the north- northwest and stalls over the
northeastern Caribbean through the rest of the workweek. In the
meantime, a strong mid-to upper level trough will push the mid-
level ridge eastward into the central Atlantic and away from the
region by midweek. These events will result in favorable conditions
to support an increase in low- level moisture convergence and the
chance for deeper shower activity. Model guidance also calls for a
weak surface low to develop over the northeastern Caribbean by the
end of the forecast period, providing additional instability to
support an increase in the frequency and areal coverage of showers
across the forecast area.
Under the south to southeast flow, above-normal temperatures are
also expected with daytime high temperatures possibly reaching the
low 90s across coastal areas.

MARINE...
Decreasing wind speeds and subsiding seas are the main story over
the local waters today. Hazardous marine conditions are coming to an
end for now, though mariners are still strongly urged to exercise
caution. There does still remain a high risk of rip currents at many
local beaches however - the beaches along the north coast of Puerto
Rico, as well as beaches of Culebra and St. Croix. The risk will
gradually lower to moderate tomorrow. This improvement in marine and
coastal conditions is expected to be short-lived, however.
Increasing winds are anticipated for this weekend, once again to
around 20 to 25 knots. A northerly swell will arrive around the same
time, and between this and the wind-driven seas, hazardous
conditions and dangerous rip currents are anticipated once again.
FIRE WEATHER...From Prev Discussion...
Limited shower activity is expected across the forecast area today,
reducing the chance for wetting rains across the region,
particularly across the southern plains of Puerto Rico. KBDI
observations continue to support a drying pattern with an increasing
trend ranging between 530-610, while 10-hour fuel moisture values
have remain consistently between 9-12%. Relative humidity is
forecast to drop in the low to mid 50s, and possible briefly
dropping into the mid to upper 40s during the late morning and early
afternoon hours. Daytime high temperatures are forecast to reach the
mid 80s under a fresh easterly wind flow peaking around 15 mph with
higher gusts and sea breeze variations.
The combination of these conditions will result in elevated fire
weather conditions, especially across the southern coastal plains of
Puerto Rico. These conditions may persist during the next few days
as relatively drier air with limited shower activity dominates the
region.
