06Z TAF discussion: A band of SHRA across cntrl MS was resulting
in lower flying conditions across the southern half of the area but
VFR conditions were observed in the north at 0530Z. VFR conds are
expected to continue in the north until Friday evening when
conditions wl deteriorate from the south. MVFR cigs and vsbys wl
prevail tonight through 15Z Fri cntrl and south before improving
to VFR. VFR conds are expected Friday afternoon but gusty winds
and gradually lower flying conditions are expected from the south
Friday evening. /22/

.DISCUSSION...
Showers will continue tonight as Hurricane Delta continues to
approach the Louisiana coast. Lows tonight will range from the
middle 60s north to the lower 70s south. The only change to the
current forecast was to increase pops tonight. /27/

Tonight and Tomorrow...
As Hurricane Delta continues its track toward the Louisiana
coast, moisture and cloud cover will continue to increase for our
region through this evening. Scattered rain showers are already
occuring across our east and southern portions of the CWA. Rain
will become more widespread as the evening/night progresses. Due
to the moisture increase, lows tonight will be slightly above
normal in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees.

Hurricane Delta is expected to make landfall somewhere along the LA
Gulf coast Friday. Heavy rainfall is expected for our area ahead of
landfall along with damaging winds and possible tornadoes. The main
time frame for these hazards will be Friday afternoon through early
Saturday morning. A flash flood watch is in effect including the MS
Delta region and areas west of the MS river that we cover including
counties/parishes in extreme southeast AR and northeast LA lasting
through Saturday. Most areas west of I-55 are in an 'Elevated'
threat for flash flooding. These places could possibly receive
between 4-8 inches of rain and east of I-55 there is a 'Limited'
threat and places could receive up to 2-3 inches of rain. Tropical
storm force like winds are likely over northeast LA and southwest
MS. Sustained winds up to 30-45mph are possible over the southwest
LA parishes we cover with possibly higher gusts and sustained winds
20-25mph with higher gusts will be possible across central and
northeast MS. there is also the threat for severe weather across a
good portion of our area. Isolated severe storms capable of
producing brief tornadoes will be possible beginning Friday
afternoon into Saturday morning.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect and has been extended from
Morehouse parish, LA to Franklin county, MS through Saturday
morning. As of now Delta is a category 2 but it is still possible
to strengthen more before landfall. We suggest people focus on the
hazards/impacts to their areas and prepare for possible flash
flooding, damaging winds, and brief tornadoes. As always we will
continue to update you with the latest information and always be sure
to have multiple ways of receiving warnings and watches!/JNE/

Tomorrow night through Wednesday...
Tomorrow night, Hurricane Delta will be moving into the southwestern
portion of JAN CWA bringing the potential for flooding rains,
tropical storm force winds to much of the Delta south of Arkansas.
Sustained winds in the 35-40kt range are expected in northeastern LA
as the storm rapidly weakens by Saturday afternoon. A Tropical Storm
warning is in place for much of LA and portions of southwestern MS.
The storm will track to the northeast in the overnight hours,
weakening as it does...but bringing strong winds and tropical force
wind gusts as it moves through central Mississippi.  As the storm
moves on shore and into the region, the severe threat will be
increasing across much of the forecast area, particularly to the
right of the storm as the shear increases in the overnight hours.
The instability is minimal and the shear and forcing will have to
find enough balance to overcome the forward momentum of the storm,
but the tornadic potential will have to be watched carefully,
particularly south of I-20.

Timing of the system exiting the region is varying from synoptic run
to run... but the latter half of the weekend will see rainfall
dissipating, if not reverting to more of a diurnal afternoon
thunderstorm trend in a warmer, tropical airmass into the beginning
of the work week.  By Monday night/early Tuesday, ECMWF and GFS are
pushing a cold front through the region, bringing a cooler and drier
airmass back into place.
