As clouds and -RA continue to move in from the southeast, PIB and
HBG will drop in visibility before the afternoon more so around
15/16z. Conditions will return to MVFR after shortly after noon
with expectations of VCTS following behind. VFR to MVFR conditions
will prevail elsewhere. Winds will be out of the east and TAF
sites can expect wind gusts between 25-30kts./JNE/

.DISCUSSION...

Today and Tonight...

Tropical Storm Cristobal is now just south of the Gulf Coast.
Confidence has grown in terms of exactly what impacts the ArkLaMiss
will get. While we aren't expecting significant TS force winds, there
are the threats for flash flooding due to heavy rainfall in a short
amount of time and also severe. The rain has been confined to the
south east for the most part, but as Cristobal continues to move
north, rain/storm chances will increase further inland and so will
risk threats. Though expectations of TS Cristobal increasing in
strength is very low due to wind shear, rainfall will still be
significant especially for areas in the southeast(Pine Belt region).

As the day continues to progress so will Cristobal. With that being
said, our south east region and areas along US 84 can start
expecting rain/thunderstorms some of which will be severe early this
afternoon. Winds will also become gusty up to 25mph. Our main
concern will be the severe and flash flooding threat. We are in a
very moist tropical air mass. A 'Flash Flood Watch' has been issued
for much of our area with expectations of 5-10 inches of rain
possible for areas south of I-20. Please remember that changes are
happening with Cristobal constantly so do not hesitate to check our
webpage along with NHC and SPC for updates. Flash flooding and
severe threat will continue into late Sunday night into Monday so

Monday through Sunday...

Model forecasts for the evolution of Tropical Storm Cristobal
continue to speed up moving through Monday and Monday night time
frame. With that in mind, the storm total forecast QPF has dropped
from the prev runs. However, given the moisture laden atmosphere and
precipitable water values in excess of 2-2.5 inches...moisture
streaming into deep warm cloud layers on the eastern side of the
storm and potential for some banding early on and through Monday
until the forward speed of the center picks up...have expanded the
Flash Flood Watch to include much of the forecast area. Wind fields
with the storm are large, and the tropical storm strength winds
extend outward from the center more than 200 miles in some places
while offshore. The pressure gradient with the low will maintain
gusty winds into Monday and guidance has continued with an enhanced
patch of stronger wind gusts to 40 mph moving up through central MS
and the delta Monday morning before midday removed to the east of
the center.

Cristobal will accelerate after it moves through the lower
Mississippi Valley and into the Midwest with a strong upper trough
mid week. That same trough is expected to bring a cold front across
the region. Convective precip and storms will accompany the boundary
Wed/Wed pm, and SPC has noted the severe weather potential with a
marginal risk, but there is too much inconsistency with timing and
the details due to the complication of the tropical system exit.
Overall, drier air dominates the end of the week, and temperatures
return to near seasonal normals./HJS/
