A mix of conditions were observed at 1130Z with LIFR conds in the
se, MVFR cntrl and nw, and VFR in the ne. Flight restrictions wl
continue to lower from the south through 17Z as llvl moisture
increases. After 17Z MVFR cigs are expected to prevail with -RA
developing over the area from the southwest. Isolated TSRA wl be
psbl cntrl and south this aftn. IFR cigs are expected to prevail
after 00Z Saturday cntrl and south while MVFR cigs continue in the

.DISCUSSION...
Today and tonight: Early morning surface analysis had a semi-
stationary boundary across the Highway 84 corridor evidenced by
low to mid 60 dew points and a light southeast wind. North of this
boundary the wind was calm and dew points ranged from the lower
50s north to Interstate 20 and in the lower 40s along the Highway
82 corridor. Water vapor imagery/RAP analysis showed a few subtle
shortwaves rounding the base of a closed low spinning over the
desert southwest. These shortwaves will move across the Southern
Plains early this morning and across our CWA today helping to
develop widespread rain and a few thunderstorms. The semi-
stationary boundary will try to drift north to the Interstate 20
corridor and provide a focus for some of the most vigorous
convection. Parameters haven't changed much from yesterday but a
few strong to severe storms capable of wind gusts to 60 mph and
quarter sized hail will be possible across the southern half of
our CWA later this morning through the afternoon. PWATs are
progged to pool above an inch and a half leading to the potential
for heavy downpours as well. CAM guidance suggests this potential
will start out in our southwest and shift east as the shortwaves
traverse the CWA. The convection will wain early this evening but
a >1024mb high over the Central Plains will be shifting east to
the mid Mississippi valley tonight and bring cooler and drier air
from the north back across our CWA. This will push the old
boundary back south of Highway 84 by sunrise but also prolong rain
chances in our south through the night. /22/

Saturday through Friday:

With slight ridging moving over the area on Saturday, precip chances
will be pushed to mostly south of our CWA. Skies will continue to be
cloudy though and highs will be in the low to mid 60s. A closed low
moving through the southern Plains will generate the next rain
chances just ahead of its associated cold front which will move
through the area on Sunday. WAA showers will begin to move into the
region Sunday morning. The front itself will pass through the CWA
that afternoon. A marginal risk for severe storms will be in effect
over the Pine Belt counties that afternoon as a warm front lifts
north through the area. Some weak instability may develop during
peak heating within the warm sector and become aligned with some
good deep-layer shear. Those two parameters combined within a warm
sector can often give way to the development of some strong to
severe storms. Damaging wind gusts will be the main threat, but
cannot quite rule out a tornado. Now, it's still a bit uncertain how
much instability will develop though and this could be the limiting
factor for this system. For now, we will maintain the marginal risk.

After the front moves through Sunday afternoon, northwesterly CAA
and a surface high will begin to move into the region. This will
cause cool conditions to start off next week. Highs on Monday will
be about 20 degrees below normal for this time of year and top out
mostly in the 40s that day. Conditions will be prime for radiational
cooling come Tuesday morning and with the center of the high over
the area, overnight lows with drop into the mid to upper 20s just in
time to start meteorological winter. Beyond that, conditions will
begin to slowly warm as the surface high shifts eastward and
southerly flow develops by that evening across the area.

Towards the second half of next week, a closed low moving through
the Rockies and into the southern Plains will generate some
cyclogenesis and bring the next round of rainfall to the area in the
Wednesday to Thursday timeframe. /10/

At 802 AM CST, Meteorologists were tracking a strong thunderstorm
near Bastrop, moving east at 45 mph.

Dime size hail and winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with
this storm.

This strong thunderstorm will be near...
  Galion around 810 AM CST.

Other locations impacted by this storm include Mer Rouge and Bonita.
