* Minor flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 28.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 35.5 feet by Friday
evening.
* Impacts...At 35.4 feet...Water approaches homes in the Hightower
Area.
* At 35.0 feet...Some businesses are affected near Town
Creek. River waters will flood some of the streets of Northeast
Jackson subdivisions which are close to the river and a number of
additional streets in downtown Jackson.
* At 34.0 feet...Dozens of additional streets flood in
downtown Jackson.
* At 33.0 feet...Rosemary Road is closed. Sidney Street is
impassable. There is water on West Street. The playing field off
Westbrook Road is underwater. Water is on Nichols and Julienne
streets in the Hightower Area; however, both are passable. Water is
approaching packs auto detail shop on South West Street.

Cold front and associated showers and thunderstorms are pushing
through the region this evening. MVFR conditions out ahead of the
boundary ...cigs dropping to IFR not far behind the initial round
of showers behind the front. Though a brief break in the IFR pops
up, more IFR lingers to the west/northwest in the obs. Given the
llvl RH enhancement with precip, see no reason that the mainly IFR
conditions will abate through the overnight. Guidance actually
maintaining MVFR cigs through tomorrow as well.

.DISCUSSION...
Tonight and tomorrow...
It has been a pleasantly warm day across much of the ArkLaMiss
region as gusty southerly winds have helped bring in warm, moist air
across the region. It won't be out of the question for some trees to
be knocked down in this gradient wind setup simply due to the very
saturated nature of the soils. Cloud cover has plagued the region
for much of the day though some small breaks in sunshine have
occurred. It is quite easy to see where the frontal boundary is
located this afternoon as behind the boundary temperatures have
dropped into the 40s and 50s with dewpoints in the 40s. Ahead of
this, temperatures have warmed into the mid to some upper 70s with
dewpoints in the mid to some upper 60s. Storms have started to
develop a little bit more in the last hour or two, with some
lightning being evident across southwest Mississippi. As the
boundary and associated upper level system continue to approach from
the west, a squall line or some kind of broken line of storms is
expected to develop and track from west to east. Lapse rates are not
expected to be robust but there is ample shear present in the
atmosphere for a few storms to become strong to severe. Shear
vectors remain parallel to the boundary which would not be ideal for
anything other than a linear complex to develop and produce damaging
winds. However, given helicity values exceeding 200-400 m2/s2, it
won't be out of the realm of possibility for a tornado to occur
where any breaks can occur with the line. Will keep mention of
slight risk in the HWO and graphics as is.
The other concern will be from flooding. Given the very saturated
nature of the area, it won't take much at all to produce some flash
flooding. Given deep moisture present across the area, any location
that is able to see heavy downpours and/or training of cells will
see a greater threat for flash flooding. This is especially the case
for locations across the north that have already seen several inches
of rain the last few days. Will continue with the Flash Flood Watch
through the evening into portions of the overnight hours until the
rain moves out of the region, as well as the threats in the HWO.
The upper trough will continue to swing east this evening into the
overnight hours, with the rain exiting the eastern part of the state
after midnight and likely before daybreak. Tomorrow should be a dry
day but clouds will linger as the upper trough will be slow to move
across. Highs will be cooler than today with readings in the mid 40s
in the Delta to the mid to upper 50s in the Pine Belt. /28/
Friday through Next Week...
The start of the extended forecast will consist of a much needed
break from the rain. A cold front will pass through the region
Thursday and cold and dry air will filter in making way for the
ArkLaMiss to see a short period of rain free weather from Thursday
night through Saturday. High temperatures will be pretty chilly for
areas north of I-20 as they will see temperatures only in 40s but
elsewhere will be in the lower to mid 50s. Friday will Due to colder
air, overnight lows will range from the upper 20s in the north to
mid 30s in the south Friday and upper 20s to near 30 degrees on
Saturday. Wind chill values between 17-20 degrees will be possible
for areas in the north due to a tight pressure gradient that has
been in place over the last couple of days.
As much as we would like for the dry weather to continue,
unfortunately it wont last long. Rain chances will return to the
region Sunday as southwesterly flow and a series of short wave
troughs takes place. The first round of rain will be Sunday morning
lasting for much of the day then light showers will persist over
night and rain begin to be slightly hoover as we move into the next
working week. The next short wave will push through possible Tuesday
which will help shape for another cold front mid-next week.
Models(GFS,ECMWF, and CAN) pick up on these short wave features and
some subtle instability however no mention of thunder went into the
forecast at this time. Will wait a day or 2 until models agree
better with timing and placement the waves/troughs to see if
instability increases or decreases but for now confidence is leaning
more towards this just being light to moderate rain. As always will
update the forecast accordingly and adjust as needed. The overall
pattern for next week looks to continue to be wet with the the next
possible chance for another break of rain in the later part of next
