Updated for 00Z aviation discussion && .AVIATION... 00Z TAF discussion: A warm front will bring widespread IFR/LIFR category ceilings and increased RA/TSRA chances to much of the forecast area as we go through tonight and Monday...mainly for locations southeast of GLH/GWO. Fog could be a significant concern in the HBG/PIB area during the late night/early morning. Light and variable surface wind will become mostly SE by Monday afternoon. && .DISCUSSION... Tonight and tomorrow... A broad high pressure ridge dominates the eastern half of the CONUS this afternoon. Light southeasterly flow and plenty of clouds have kept a lot of low level moisture in place, and that will lend itself to the potential for a foggy night for Central Mississippi. Building mid level ridge stretching from the Atlantic across the Florida peninsula and into the Gulf will assist surface return flow off the to push a frontal boundary back northward into the region tonight/tomorrow. This boundary will be the beginning of a prolonged pd of rainy weather for the week. Today, some low level stratus clouds were very slow to dissipate. As a result, little mixing, if any, has been able to work the dry air aloft into the boundary layer. Dewpoints are a little higher and in concert with some clearing on sat imagery, radiational cooling will assist in the development of some patchy fog across the midsection of the state. Also, WAA off the Gulf and into the more southerly portions of the CWA will pull in more moisture, setting up for reduced vis there as well. Two different mechanisms with differing timing...but enough potential for fog that the high res models have also started to pick up on both. Looking at crossover temps this afternoon, and the slow to clear fog in the southeast...just adding in the mention to the forecast. Given the increasing chances for precip as that boundary lifts north...the chances for precip/increased clouds are balancing against the vis restrictions enough to stop short of an advisory...for now. Tomorrow, the rain and clouds continue, limiting the high temps to the 60s/low 70s south of the front. Winds in general remain light, but the moderate lapse rates warrant a thunder mention through the day. /HJS/ Monday night through Saturday: With a stalled boundary located over the northern half of our CWA, rain chances will continue into Monday night and Tuesday. Most of the convection will be elevated but there will be decent enough instability and lapse rates so that some of the storms could become strong. Though there was a marginal risk introduced in an earlier forecast, it has now been removed. This is due to the low confidence in storms actually achieving large hail or severe- strength winds. Throughout the day Tuesday, the boundary will waver slightly as showers and isolated to scattered storms continue to develop along it. The best rain chances will remain locked in over the northern parts of the area though. An upper ridge will back build into the Gulf of Mexico by Wednesday and help to push the stalled boundary a little further north. Warm air advection will continue to pump above normal temps and moisture into the region. By Thursday, an upper shortwave moving through the Upper Plains and Midwest will push a weak cold front towards our area. The global models vary on how far this cold front actually makes it into our CWA and whether to our southern boundary or just gets washed out to our north due to the strength of the ridge is still to be determined. Each solution still warrants rainfall within our area but temperatures will vary greatly depending on the solution. By Friday, a large trough will be developing over the Plains and swinging eastward. A stronger cold front will then push into our CWA on Saturday, accompanied by yet another round of rain and storms.
