Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Jackson MS 1259 PM CDT Thu Sep 24 2020 .UPDATE... Updated for 18Z aviation discussion && .AVIATION... 18Z TAF discussion: A weak cold advection pattern over wet ground will maintain widespread IFR/LIFR category stratus along with some drizzle/br for much of this forecast period. The HBG/PIB area could have mostly MVFR/VFR category ceilings, but lower stratus and perhaps some fog may develop during the early morning across the entire area. Otherwise expect diminishing and somewhat variable surface winds. /EC/ && .DISCUSSION... Today...Overall the near term forecast is on track with the remnant low of Beta located between Jackson and Columbus as of late morning. The low will continue to move ENE and out of the area later today. Rainfall has largely diminished in intensity and have thus cancelled the FFA. Have also made minor adjustments to weather elements for the remainder of the day based on latest obs trends with cloudy, drizzly, and cooler weather persisting in weak cold advection on the back side of the slow moving low. /EC/ Prior discussion below: Tonight...Cooler air moving into the region on the western side of the low will keep the overnight lows in the 60s...cyclonic flow and ample moisture in the BL will keep overcast skies in place through tonight. Friday through next Wednesday...Weak high pressure at the surface will sit in place over the forecast area during the weekend. Aloft, troughing will lift out of the region Friday, with ridging quickly building in on Saturday. As quick as this ridge builds in, it'll quickly shift east in response to a weakening mid/upper level low pressure system lifting northeast out of East Texas. This closed low will become an open trough and phase with a northern stream longwave trough, while swinging east through the region overnight Sunday into Monday. This feature will force a cold front south and through the CWA Monday, followed by another cold front currently progged to push through the area on Wednesday. As far as conditions are concerned through the period, slightly more moist and warmer conditions are expected through the weekend. With increasing daytime heating an isolated shower can't be ruled out each afternoon. However, the vast majority of the CWA will remain dry. A little better chance of an isolated shower will exist on Monday as the aforementioned cold front drops south through the forecast area. More noticeable will be the cooler drier air that'll advect into the region in the front's wake through Tuesday, followed by another reinforcing shot of cooler drier air on Wednesday behind the second cold frontal passage. /19/ && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
