...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM CDT EARLY THIS 
MORNING FOR CENTRAL HINDS, SOUTH CENTRAL MADISON AND RANKIN 
COUNTIES...

At 357 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the warned 
area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is 
ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

SOURCE...Doppler radar.

IMPACT...Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
         highways, streets and underpasses as well as other
         drainage and low lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Jackson, Clinton, Pearl, Madison, Ridgeland, Brandon, Byram, 
  Flowood, Richland, Star, Florence, Raymond, Terry, Monterey, 
  Whites, Fannin, Pocahontas, Piney Woods, Goshen Springs and Dry 
  Grove.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the 
dangers of flooding.

Forecast centering around the northward progression of TS
Cristobal. A few VFR obs to the north...most have already flipped
to MVFR as the storm bands move across the region. Forecast is
largely an MVFR one... some IFR drops with cigs and vis closer to
the center of the storm. Winds from easterly to southerly by the
end of the TAF pd. Rain chances throughout, have left vcts in the
afternoon time frame with the better chances to deepen convection.
Expect gusty winds 25-30 kts... some higher possible gusts
tomorrow afternoon/evening.

.DISCUSSION...
TS Cristobal made landfall earlier this evening. Rain bands
continue to move into the region. Heavy rain and tornado threat is
at bay right now but expect as additional rain moves in, this will
continue to be monitored. Plentiful shear is in place but with the
instability diminishing, the threat for tornadoes is lower tonight
but should ramp up tomorrow with destabilization. Gradient wind
continues to be a threat outside of showers/rain bands. Going
forecast is in decent shape. /28/

Prior discussion below:

Today through Monday night: Multiple threats associated with
landfalling Tropical Storm Cristobal, including heavy rainfall,
strong winds, and tornadoes, will continue for the ArkLaMiss
region as we go through the next 36 hours or so. The heavy
rainfall still has the potential to be most significant,
especially over south central MS where a significant to extreme
flash flood threat continues, and this is supported by the
consistent HREF. The progressive nature of the system should help
to keep amounts from becoming overly prolific, but CAM guidance
suggest convective bands with intense rainfall rates could persist
Monday resulting in isolated bands of extreme rainfall amounts.

Otherwise we have further expanded the flash flood watch slightly,
and introduced wind advisory/graphics for much of the forecast
area in reflection of the increasing wind threat. A tornado threat
should ramp up this evening and persist through Monday into Monday
evening per SPC guidance.

Tuesday through next weekend: A strong shortwave trough crossing
the central CONUS will sweep "Cristobal" quickly eastward Tuesday
and send a cold front through the ArkLaMiss region. There is a
marginal risk for a few strong to severe storms per SPC as the
front pushes through, then we expect dry conditions with unusually
low humidity for this time of the year to prevail the remainder
of the week into the weekend. /EC/

COUNTIES THROUGH 945 PM CDT...

At 849 PM CDT, Meteorologists were tracking a line of gusty showers
extending from Lena to near Union, moving west at 40 mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible.

Locations impacted include...
Carthage, Neshoba, Dowdville, Tuscola, Madden, Bethsaida, House,
Dixon, Walnut Grove, Lena and Standing Pine.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

High winds can bring down trees and large limbs resulting in serious
injury or property damage. Exercise extreme caution when outdoors
during such strong winds...and be especially aware of older trees.
