to runoff.

to allow safe passage. Never allow children to play in or near flood

* Forecast...The river will crest near 14.4 feet around 7 AM Wednesday 
  January 15.
* At 14.0 feet...Significant flooding occurs on DeKalb County Road 42
  about 3 miles northeast of Newville. Considerable agricultural and 
  low land flooding occurs along the St. Joseph River to the 
  Cedarville Reservoir. 
* This crest compares to a previous crest of 14.6 feet which occurred 
  on May 30 2011.

Clouds persist through the night with an areas of drizzle,
freezing drizzle and snow. Skies remain mostly cloudy to start
the workweek as temperatures begin to warm. The next round of
significant weather settles into the region this coming weekend.

Per collaboration and upstream obs have issued a Winter Weather
Advisory tonight for areas of freezing drizzle and light snow for
our far northern IN counties and Lower MI counties. Lower
confidence in any impacts south of the advisory area with temps
likely creeping a degree or two above freezing tonight. Have seen
a mix of -sn and dz/fzdz so far this evening, though a trend
toward mainly drizzle is anticipated with time given warming cloud
temps on IR and classic drizzle soundings with weak isentropic
ascent and ample moisture below a dry DGZ. This light precip
associated with this weak ascent and shortwave lifting into the
Western Great Lakes should taper off toward daybreak, though will
monitor for a possible extension into the morning commute if
precip is slower to exit.

.SHORT TERM...(This Evening through Monday)

Warm ascending air continues to overrun the cold pool tonight and
this will lead to drizzle over the Indiana/Michigan border
counties. Temperatures have been held down across the northeast
corner of Indiana/south central MI and expect to see patches of
freezing drizzle in that area before the boundary layer mixes out
early morning hours Monday. Temperatures will remain nearly steady
or even warm after midnight.

Drizzle and low clouds shift northward quickly Monday...setting
the stage for a 10+ degree warmup from today. Ridging pattern
persists into the middle part of the week as the longwave pattern
exhibits broad troughiness across the Central US.

.LONG TERM...(Monday Night through Sunday)

The broad trof over the Central US persists through the week
before the next in a series of deepening short waves ejects
through the plains and into the Great Lakes. There are any number
of possible solutions for the track of this system...and rather
than hang my hat on a singular model have held to the national
blend of models. The end result is a high probability of
precipitation for next weekend (beginning Friday) and persisting
into the weekend. Again, the model solutions are all over the
place and depending on the track, could be all snow - all rain -
or a mix. Of note is that there are distinct timing differences as
well and this could mean the difference in how much moisture the
system can tap into and realize. For now have opted for high PoP,
mixed precipitation. Given the precipitation efficiency of the
past few systems, the potential for another heavy rain event looks
to be in the offing.

Weak/shallow isentropic ascent and moist boundary layer preceding
a shortwave lifting ne through the Western Great Lakes will
continue to bring areas of a -dz/fzdz/sn mix into the early
morning hours. Temps will likely hold just above freezing at KFWA
and hover near freezing at KSBN. Flight conditions will generally
range between LIFR and IFR otherwise, with drying and improvement
into MVFR expected by daybreak behind a weak low level trough.
