One more potentially frosty night will be seen tonight before
much warmer air starts to arrive. Shower and thunderstorm chances
arrive by Wednesday night and persist on and off through the
weekend. Mild temperatures are expected into the middle of next
week.

.SHORT TERM...(This Evening through Wednesday)
Issued at 234 PM EDT Tue May 12 2020

Dry high pressure will generally dominate through Wednesday.
However, a weak surface trough over the region and increasing mid-
level moisture has resulted in a wide field of alto-cumulus across
the Ohio Valley this afternoon. These clouds will diminish after
sunset, but cirrus clouds will increase ahead of the next weather
system. The high clouds will also act to insulate the area some
overnight, and low temperatures should not be as cold as last night.
Many locations could still see frost though, with northerly low-
level flow dominating through a good part of the night. A Frost
Advisory is being issued for most of the forecast area except some
of the south and west counties, where low temperatures will be in
the upper 30s.

Wednesday will remain dry, but as high pressure shifts eastward, the
flow will become southeasterly and moisture and clouds will increase
further. Temperatures will also increase, and afternoon highs are
expected to be in the 60s.

.LONG TERM...(Wednesday Night through Tuesday)

Rain may start moving in from the west on Wednesday night as a warm
front moves into the region. Models are now in good agreement that
the bulk of the rain going into Thursday morning will be over
Michigan, in association with a moderately strong shortwave. This
will place much of the area in the warm sector for Thursday/Thursday
night with highs into the 70s and dewpoints pushing 60 or higher.
The atmosphere will then be ripe for upstream convection to move
in from the southwest and pose a highly conditional threat for
strong to locally severe storms. SPC currently has the southwestern
portion of the forecast area in a marginal risk. And as moisture
increases ahead of the cold front during this period, heavy
rainfall will also become possible across much of Indiana and into
northern Ohio, and WPC has issued a slight risk for excessive
rainfall that could potentially cause minor flooding. Fortunately,
since the area has been fairly dry of late, most locations are
easily able to take 1 to 2 inches of rainfall with only minor
impacts.

A cold front will push through the area on Friday, and the axis of
moisture will also shift to the south. Dry weather may not last
long though, with another low pressure system poised to bring more
rain and thunderstorms on Saturday evening. Wet weather will
continue through Sunday. Dry high pressure will finally return
Monday and Tuesday with a strong ridge building in from the west.
Temperatures will remain mild through this period, reaching into
the mid 70s to maybe even upper 70s by Tuesday.

VFR/dry through the TAF cycle with the main focus on winds. Deeper
mixing will continue to allow for some higher wnw gusts as high
as 20 knots this afternoon, especially at KFWA as more stable
marine influenced air continues to work into KSBN. Low level
ridging briefly edges in tonight with winds becoming light.
