in Indiana...

  Wabash River...White River...


.The flood threat continues on the Wabash and White Rivers as a 
result of recent precipitation events. Flooding on the lower reaches 
of the Wabash and White Rivers is expected to last as late as 
Monday, February 24. 

Flood impacts should mainly be confined to roads near the waterways, 
agricultural land, bottomlands, and levees.  Please see the specific 
impacts listed for your location of interest below or by going to 
the web page described below.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

* At 18.0 feet...Lowland flooding begins to flood several Pike County 
  roads.  Many of the following county roads begin to flood around 
  this level...east of SR 57 include CR 750N...CR 600N and CR 1000E.
  Pike county road subject to flooding west of SR 57 include...CR 250
  W...CR 400W...CR 675N...CR 700 N...CR  1000w...CR 900W...CR 700W 
  and CR 775W.

* Forecast...It is forecast to crest at 19.9 feet this evening and 
  will fall below flood stage by late Thursday night.
* At 20.0 feet...Most of the low bottomlands flood. Flooding begins in
  higher bottomlands. High water affects any residents in Pottsville 
  river cabins. Pottsville Road...North C Street on river side of 
  railroad tracks and Catt Street near U.S. Highway 41 are flooded. 
  Water is near or starting on Giro Road in the vicinity of submerged
  Pottsville Road. Oil stripped fields flood. Flood gates must be 
  installed at Hazleton.

  substructures.  Access to these are by boat only.  Agricultural 
  losses increase dramatically.  Farmers move livestock to higher 
  ground.  City of Mount Carmel leaves flood gates B and C in year 
  round.

* Forecast...It is forecast to crest at 17.5 feet Saturday afternoon 
  and will fall below flood stage by Monday evening.
* At 18.0 feet...Seep water occurs behind levees on Indiana side.  
  Hutson Creek begins to overflow from backwater.  Old Darwin Road 
  and a few rural roads in eastern Clark and Crawford counties in 
  Illinois are impassable.  Low agricultural land floods.

* At  3:00 PM Thursday the stage was 15.8 feet.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...It will rise to near 16.3 feet by Saturday evening then 
  begin falling. It will fall below flood stage Monday evening.
* At 16.0 feet...Some agricultural lands underwater.  A few rural 
  roads in Crawford County, Illinois close as water backs up Minnow 
  Slough.  High water affects campground at Leaverton Park in 
  Palestine.  A few private roads near the Gill Township levee in 
  Sullivan County may flood.  Water level is at the top of most 
  makeshift levees.

High pressure is expected across the area through the weekend. A
frontal system may affect the area early next week.

.NEAR TERM /This Afternoon through Thursday/...
Issued at 229 PM EST Wed Feb 19 2020

Expecting rather extensive mid level cloud to develop across the
area this evening, as a short wave trough drops through the Great
Lakes. These clouds will probably linger into late Thursday morning,
before thinning out during the afternoon. The precipitation bearing
layer gets close to saturation by late tonight into Thursday
morning, so can't rule out a few flurries. However, the limited
lift and dry lower levels will work against anything reaching the
ground. At this time, the chances for flurries are too small to
include in the forecast.

Given the increasing cloud cover this evening, the GFS MOS lows
tonight may be a little on the cold side. Will nudge up the guidance
a category. Low level thicknesses generally support the MOS highs on
Thursday.

.SHORT TERM /Thursday Night through Saturday/...

Models suggest upper ridging will build over the middle of the
country during this period, as a large area of surface high pressure
slowly slides southeast into the Tennessee Valley by Saturday.
This should result in dry conditions through the period, with
limited cloud cover.

Progged low level thicknesses suggest the GFS MOS temperatures later
in the short term look pretty good at this point, so little if any
adjustments planned.

.LONG TERM /Saturday Night through Wednesday/...

Issued at 227 PM EST Wed Feb 19 2020

ECMWF suggests weak ridging in place across the area on Saturday
as surface high pressure over the southeastern states begins to
drift to the east. This will provide dry weather for the through
much of the weekend.

By Sunday afternoon and Sunday night...a strong area of low
pressure in place over the southwest along with a short wave on
the leading edge of a an approaching ridge is expected to arrive
per the ECMWF. Mid level moisture profiles suggest abundant
moisture available and ample forcing as these features arrive on
Sunday night and into Monday. Thus have included higher pops as
these features pass.

The ECMWF depicts brief ridging to build across the area on Monday
into Monday Night...while a surface low moves through the Ohio
valley. This will result in a chances for rain for much of the
start of the next work week.

VFR Conditions will continue as high pressure builds across the
forecast area. No significant changes to the ongoing Tafs.
