...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following waterways 
in Indiana...

  Driftwood River...East Fork White River...Wabash River...White 
  River...


.Flooding is underway along several central and southern Indiana 
waterways as a result of up to 2 inches of precipitation that fell 
Sunday into Monday.  Another precipitation event this Wednesday and 
early Wednesday night will bring up to an inch of water, heaviest 
south.  This latter event will bring secondary crests to waterways at 
some locations and prolong the original crest at others.

The White River will see crests up to about 5 feet above flood stage 
and the Wabash will see crests up to about 3 feet.  Predictions are 
holding steady for flooding along the lower reaches of the Wabash and 
White Rivers to last through the end of next week.  Flooding on the 
East Fork White River is expected to be confined to primarily 
the Seymour area, with two crests around 14.6 feet.

Today's forecast model run of expected crests is largely similar to 
yesterday's.  This will give us crests lower than what we saw in 
January.

Flood impacts should mainly be confined to roads near the waterways, 
agricultural land, bottomlands, and levees.  Please see the specific

the web page described below.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

  and falling steadily for the past 2 days.

* At 20.9 feet...During June 2010 State Road 257 south of Washington 
  began to flood at this crest level at Petersburg after Shoals 
  crested at 18.19 feet.  About a week later Petersburg crested at 
  21.34 feet...about one half foot higher...but the water did not 
  reach State Road 257 after Shoals crested at 15.59 feet...about 2.5
  feet lower.  Lost River did not contribute much water during this 
  June flood and locally it was not extremely wet.

following waterways in Indiana...

  Wabash River...White River...


.The Wabash River at Clinton in west central Indiana is no longer 
expected to reach or surpass flood stage.  After rising about another 
half foot through Thursday night it will crest at about 16 feet, 2 
feet below flood stage.

Up and downstream river gage readings from Ravenswood in central 
Indiana show flooding is no longer a threat on the White River at 
Ravenswood.  The river will continue its downward trend from about 
4.3 feet Thursday morning.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Be alert to flood debris on previously flooded roads. Keep children 
away from flooded areas. Recreational and agricultural interests 
should remain alert to changing river conditions.

.SYNOPSIS...
Issued at 138 AM EST Wed Feb 12 2020

Active weather is expected the next few days as a pair of weather
systems move through the region. Low pressure over the southern
plains is expected to move northeast into the Ohio Valley
tonight. Rain and snow is expected to develop ahead of the
Low...spreading across Central Indiana this afternoon and
continuing tonight.

Accumulating snow...mainly north of I-70...will be expected late
this afternoon and tonight.

Precipitation will begin to taper off on Thursday morning as the
low departs the east. However a secondary arctic cold front is
then expected to sweep across Indiana on Thursday. This will once
again bring chances for a quick shot of accumulating snow.

Very Cold...Winter like temperatures will then arrive for Friday
and Saturday. The cold snap will be brief however, with
temperatures moderating early next week.

.NEAR TERM /Today/...

Issued at 138 AM EST Wed Feb 12 2020

Surface analysis early this morning shows high pressure in place
over the Ohio Valley. Water vapor imagery really tells the story
today. a tropical plume of moisture was stretching across
TX...into the plains and then east across the Ohio Valley. This
plume was in response to a deep trough over the American
southwest...with southerly flow ahead of it. National Radar
Mosaics show rain beneath the tropical plume ahead of the low
over Texas and Arkansas streaming northeast within the flow.

Models suggest the deep upper trough to the southwest will begin
to push east today. This will adjust the tropical flow ahead of
the trough toward the Ohio Valley this afternoon and tonight.
Meanwhile at the surface low pressure is expected to develop ahead
of the trough over Arkansas and begin to push northeast toward
Tennessee and Kentucky through Night. Strong isentropic lift
arrives in Central Indiana this afternoon with specific humidities
over 4 g/kg. Forecast soundings at that time show a saturated
column...and the far majority of the column below 0C. Thus will
trend toward mainly a snow forecast along I-70. Not much farther
south...at Bloomington...forecast soundings are above 0C...thus
rain there. Pwats this afternoon and evening are near 0.81 inches
and given the tropical flow aloft...this system could have the
potential to over perform. Thus will continue with near 100 pops
across the board today...keeping the rain/snow line close to the
previous forecast.

Collaboration still ongoing with surrounding offices today...and
will leave headline in place at this time...however...should this
system overperform...upgrades may be needed.

.SHORT TERM /Tonight through Friday Night/...

Issued at 138 AM EST Wed Feb 12 2020

GFS and NAM suggest the tropical flow associated with this
feature will deflect east overnight as the upper trough to the
west combines with a stronger upper trough dropping out of the
northern plains. This should result in a quick departure of the
surface low on Tonight. In response...forecast soundings show a
loss of deep moisture as well as forcing...as time heights show
subsidence in play within the middle and high levels. Still lower
levels appear saturated through the day on Thursday.
Furthermore...the models agree a strong arctic front will push
across Indiana on Thursday...providing some forcing for additional
snowfall. Pwats at that time still lingering near 0.5 on late
tonight and Thursday...but continue to fall as the dry air
continues to fill into the column with the associated subsidence.
Thus will continue snow pop chances on Thursday morning...tapering
lower as the day progresses and the cold air arrives.

The strong upper trough is expected to push across the region on
Friday...followed by some ridging aloft for Friday night and
Saturday amid the mainly NW flow aloft. Meanwhile at the surface
strong arctic high pressure will be moving through the area
through Saturday...with return flow arriving by mid day Saturday.
Forecast soundings on Friday through Saturday Night show a very
dry column along with subsidence in play. Thus will trend toward
partly cloudy and very cold conditions. New snow fall on Friday
morning may allow for ideal radiational cooling conditions and
will trend lows at or below the NBM where snow cover will be
expected. Wind chills on Friday morning may be within the 0C to
-10C range.

.LONG TERM /Saturday through Wednesday/...

Active pattern continues for the end of the week heading into the
weekend and early next week. 500mb trough axis will be pivoting
east towards the Ohio Valley/Great Lakes Sat, with a quick surge
of south/southwest flow air ahead of this trough. This will likely
set the stage for temps warming up into the upper 30s to lower 40s
by Sun, then even warmer air arrives for Mon/Tue when highs may
push into the lower/middle 50s.

Longer term guidance indicates a deepening trough across the
Southwest CONUS for early next week, will likely lead to a setup
of continued active pattern for early next week.

.AVIATION /Discussion for the 15Z TAF Update/...

Updated current condition. Current forecast looks very similar to
12Z issuance. No significant changes made.

Previous discussion as follows...

VFR conds will kick-off the day; however, as the morning
progresses precipitation will arrive from the southwest and in
addition lowering CIGs. Expect by midday to early afternoon CIGs
to diminish to IFR conds, then as precip begins to transition over
to a mix or rain and snow, that will likely produce VSBYs less
than one mile, and at times if the snow becomes heavier for KLAF
VSBYs could briefly touch one quarter mile.

Further south for KIND/KHUF and KBMG, VSBYs and CIGs will
eventually fall to IFR or lower conds overnight with light to at
times moderate snow and VSBYs between one half and one mile.

All precip will begin to shift east of the area Thursday morning.
