...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following waterways 
in Indiana...

  Big Blue River...Big Walnut Creek...Buck Creek...Driftwood River...
  East Fork White River...Eel River...Fall Creek...Flatrock River...
  Mill Creek...Mississinewa River...Sugar Creek...Tippecanoe River...
  Wabash River...White River...Wildcat Creek...Youngs Creek...



.Most river sites have rising water levels as of late Saturday 
evening throughout central and southern Indiana.  This is a result of 
copious rain that fell between late Thursday and late Saturday.  
Radar precipitation estimates indicate the heaviest rainfall of up to 
nearly four inches has fallen in western Indiana, chiefly south of 
Interstate 74.

The large majority of the Wabash, White, and East Fork White Rivers 
are expected to flood, with some locations reaching moderate flood 
stage.  Crests are expected to be the highest since either 
February or June of 2019.

Rain will come to an end by the wee hours of Sunday morning from 
west to east across the state.  Little or no precipitation 
is in the forecast through Tuesday afternoon.

Please be aware of flooded roads and do not attempt to cross 
flooded areas if you cannot see the road.  Occupied vehicles have 
been reported in flood waters in Jennings and Morgan counties 
Saturday afternoon and evening.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

* At 8.5 feet...A frequent high water level.  This occurs about two or
  three times a year.  Local roads near the Big Blue River flood.  
  Water level enters dog houses in southern Carthage and affects used
  auto parts yard in Carthage.

* Minor flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...It will rise to near 14.2 feet by Sunday afternoon then 
  begin falling. It will fall below flood stage Tuesday afternoon.
* At 14.9 feet...Extensive flooding along Driftwood River in northern 
  Bartholomew County on March 7 2011.   Double Y Saddle Club area 
  extensively flooded.  Water flowing over CR 950 N to Club.  CR 330W
  is flooded just south of its intersection with Ohio Ridge Rd.  CR 
  500N west of CR 250W is flooded blocking vehicular access to 
  residences near the river bank.  Lowell Public Access site is 
  completely flooded.  Water very near several residences and 
  seasonal homes along CR 330W and CR 325W.

* At 10.1 feet...The lowest portions of the parking lot for the 
  Holiday Inn Express near I-65 was extensively flooded in March 
  2008.  Also flooded were the nearby walking trails and the 
  basketball goal.

* At 22.0 feet...Lowland flooding affects all local roads in the flood
  plain.  Farmers must move some livestock to higher ground.  State 
  Road 550 floods on left bank.  Roads that flood include West River,
  Spout Spring, Cemetery, East River, Chicken Farm and a few other 
  side roads near the river.  East Fork White River forms at least 
  one island.  Two families are nearly isolated.  Significant 
  agricultural flooding is in progress.

  level on March 6 2011...flooding local roads behind the  levee.  
  Flooding not nearly as bad as June 2008 levee failure.  Flooding 
  was very close to one of the June 2008 failures.

  morning then begin falling.
* At 24.2 feet...During April 2013 when Petersburg reached this level,
  the water only reached the white line of SR 257 south of 
  Washington, but never closed the road.  Shoals only went to 11.67 
  feet during April 2013.  This is the first that locals can remember
  such a high stage for Petersburg and SR 257 remaining open.

  350 N in the Black Rock Preserve Area, a distance of nearly 1.5 
  miles. High water affects Fort Ouiatenon area. All parks in the 
  West Lafayette and Lafayette areas are flooded.  High water almost 
  on North River Road.

.Most river sites have rising water levels as of Sunday afternoon
throughout central and southern Indiana.  This is a result of 
copious rain that fell between late Thursday and late Saturday.  
Radar precipitation estimates indicate the heaviest rainfall of up to 
nearly four inches has fallen in western Indiana, chiefly south of 
Interstate 74.

The large majority of the Wabash, White, and East Fork White Rivers 
are expected to flood, with some locations reaching moderate flood 
stage.  Crests are expected to be the highest since either 
February or June of 2019.

Little or no precipitation is in the forecast through Tuesday afternoon.

Please be aware of flooded roads and do not attempt to cross 
flooded areas if you cannot see the road.  Occupied vehicles have 
been reported in flood waters in Jennings and Morgan counties 
Saturday afternoon and evening.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

.The Big Blue River at Carthage and Sugar Creek at New Palestine 
have fallen below flood stage and are expected to continue falling 
for the foreseeable future.  Little or no precipitation is forecast 
to fall in central and southern Indiana through Wednesday, thus 
water levels are expected to continue falling through late week.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Be alert to flood debris on previously flooded roads. Keep children 
away from flooded areas. Recreational and agricultural interests

.SYNOPSIS...
Issued at 345 PM EST Sat Jan 11 2020

Additional precipitation will fall, mainly this evening, as
showers associated with the main upper trough move through the
area. It may be cold enough in the northwestern portions of the
area for a few snowflakes to fly, although the ground should be
warm enough to melt any snow as it falls. Dry weather will return
late tonight into late Monday, before another low moves through
the region, potentially producing a few rain showers late Monday
night into Tuesday. Mid to late week and over the weekend may be a
bit more active with plentiful chances for precipitation.

.NEAR TERM /Rest of Tonight/...
Issued at 938 PM EST Sat Jan 11 2020

The surface low has moved east into Ohio, and the cold front is now
east of central Indiana. Damaging winds gusts have been noted along
the front, but nothing strong behind the front has been seen. Rain
continues across mainly the northern half of central Indiana.

Adjusted PoPs to reflect current trends. Area of precipitation back
across Illinois has been shrinking a little, but it is still big
enough that PoPs had to be upped in the northwest part of the area
this evening. Much of the precipitation remains as rain across
eastern Illinois, but some snow is back across central Illinois.

Some snow should still mix in with the rain before it moves out of
the area early tonight, but not expecting much if any accumulation
as it melts quickly on the warm ground.

Lowered wind gusts many areas, but did keep a brief period of higher
gusts in the far east near the exiting surface low.

Temperatures look good so only adjusted hourly trends.

Previous discussion follows...

An elongated area of low pressure stretches along a frontal
boundary from western New York to Indiana and down into the lower
Mississippi valley this afternoon. This will continue to push
quickly east this evening, although some precipitation associated
with the main upper trough is expected, mainly during the evening
hours. Temperatures may get cold enough for a few snowflakes to
fly, mainly north and west of Indianapolis, but expect little
impact from this as recent warm temperatures have likely made
roads and sidewalks warm enough to melt any snow as it falls.

A substantial temperature gradient exists across the front, and
expect temperatures to drop quickly as it passes. Ongoing cold
advection overnight should bring lows down into the 20s
northwest, to the low 30s southeast.

.SHORT TERM /Sunday through Wednesday/...

The vast majority of the short term period will be dry and quiet,
with temperatures likely to recover relatively quickly in the wake
of the cold front as midlevel ridging nudges back westward and
broad warm advection reestablishes ahead of the next trough over
the northern and central plains.

Models show another low pressure system developing and moving into
the Great Lakes late in the period, although there are some fairly
significant differences in resultant surface reflection and
precipitation. Will go ahead and stick with the NBM low pops late
Monday night into early Tuesday. Should be warm enough for this to
fall as all rain.

.LONG TERM /Tuesday Night through Saturday/...

The weather pattern is set to become more active during the
extended with growing potential for some wintry mischief by late
week into next weekend as progressively colder air is drawn into
the region.

Much of the early part of the week will be quiet with high
pressure across the area. An upper wave tracking across the upper
Midwest will interact with low pressure and moisture being pulled
north...but the entire system is likely to remain out of phase.
The result will be just a low threat for mainly light
precipitation Wednesday and Wednesday night. High pressure will
then reestablish on Thursday with the initial shot of colder air
from the northwest.

Late week into the weekend presents an interesting and complicated
scenario that could provide a period with a wintry mix and/or
predominantly snow as the retreating colder airmass interacts
with the storm system. As is to be expected at this stage...plenty
of disagreement exists with respect to the track of the system
which will be a huge factor in determining precip type. Primary
impacts from the system likely come late Friday into Saturday.

After a mild start to the extended with highs in the 50s
Wednesday...more seasonable temperatures are expected late week
into the weekend with highs in the 30s to lower 40s and lows in
the 20s.

.AVIATION (Discussion for the 120300Z TAF Update)...

Upped visibility at KIND based on latest trends. Although kept IFR
ceilings, lowered the coverage to broken. There may be some bounding
of IFR to MVFR at times into the early overnight. Lowered wind gusts
a bit too.

Previous discussion follows...

Poor flying conditions are expected into the overnight, with calmer
but still MVFR conditions expected during the daylight hours Sunday.

More rain will overspread the area by valid time in the wrap-around
of an exiting area of low pressure. IFR conditions are expected in
these. Winds gusts will pick up early in the period as the low
exits, with gusts near 30kt possible. Some snow may mix in with the
rain at the western sites late this evening.

Precipitation ends for the overnight but gusty winds will continue.
Ceilings will improve to MVFR at most sites.

Winds will be calmer Sunday, but MVFR clouds look to hang around.
