...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following waterways 
in Indiana...

  Big Blue River...Big Walnut Creek...Buck Creek...Driftwood River...
  Eagle Creek...East Fork White River...Eel River...Fall Creek...
  Flatrock River...Mill Creek...Mississinewa River...Sugar Creek...
  Wabash River...White Lick Creek...White River...Wildcat Creek...
  Youngs Creek...


.With only minor exception, water levels early Saturday evening on 
area waterways continued to rise throughout central and southern 
Indiana due to copious rainfall between late Thursday through late 
Saturday.  Radar precipitation estimates indicate the heaviest 
rainfall of up to 3.50 plus inches has fallen in western Indiana, 
chiefly south of Interstate 74.

The large majority of the Wabash, White, and East Fork White Rivers 
are expected to flood, with some locations reaching moderate flood 
stage.  Crests are expected to reach a height that has not been seen 
since February 2019.

Rain will come to an end this Saturday evening, with little or no 
precipitation otherwise through Tuesday afternoon.

Please be aware of flooded roads and do not attempt to cross 
flooded areas if you cannot see the road.  Occupied vehicles have 
been reported in flood waters in Jennings and Morgan counties 
Saturday afternoon.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

* At 14.9 feet...Extensive flooding along Driftwood River in northern 
  Bartholomew County on March 7 2011.   Double Y Saddle Club area 
  extensively flooded.  Water flowing over CR 950 N to Club.  CR 330W
  is flooded just south of its intersection with Ohio Ridge Rd.  CR 
  500N west of CR 250W is flooded blocking vehicular access to 
  residences near the river bank.  Lowell Public Access site is 
  completely flooded.  Water very near several residences and 
  seasonal homes along CR 330W and CR 325W.

  south of Lowell Rd and local roads just north of West Hill Shopping
  Center flooded.

  River Road and Rager Road.

* At 14.0 feet...Flooding approaches local residents located on low 
  flood plain areas on local streams.  State Road 450 just east of 
  Williams is extensively flooded and becomes a recreational area for
  local geese and ducks.  Only the highest campgrounds at Williams 
  Dam are out of water.  Huron and Williams Road flooded immediately 
  south of Indiana 450 just west of Williams.  Dillman Road (CR 1000 
  W)  immediately north of Indiana 450 begins to flood. Indiana 450 
  begins to flood at Coxton Road.

* At 23.7 feet...During prolonged high water of late March and early 
  April 2008, Windom Road had one lane open.  On March 11 2011 SR 550
  just south of Loogootee was closed by high water on the south side 
  of the river.  At least one nearby county road was flooded.  
  Considerable lowland flooding in progress.

* Forecast...It will continue rising to near 25.1 feet by Friday 
  afternoon then begin falling.
* At 25.0 feet...A flood has exceeded this level each year since 
  January 2004, 6 out of 7 years since May 2002 and 10 times since 
  May 1990.  Of these 10 recent floods, 7 of them have exceeded the 
  25.8 foot mark with the January 2005 flood the largest since 
  January 1937.  Prior to May 1990, one must go back to March 1964 
  for a flood above 25 feet and back to May 1961 for a flood over 26 
  feet.  The greatest known flood to strike the Petersburg area 
  occurred in March 1913.

Additional precipitation will fall, mainly this evening, as
showers associated with the main upper trough move through the
area. It may be cold enough in the northwestern portions of the
area for a few snowflakes to fly, although the ground should be
warm enough to melt any snow as it falls. Dry weather will return
late tonight into late Monday, before another low moves through
the region, potentially producing a few rain showers late Monday
night into Tuesday. Mid to late week and over the weekend may be a
bit more active with plentiful chances for precipitation.

.NEAR TERM /Tonight/...

An elongated area of low pressure stretches along a frontal
boundary from western New York to Indiana and down into the lower
Mississippi valley this afternoon. This will continue to push
quickly east this evening, although some precipitation associated
with the main upper trough is expected, mainly during the evening
hours. Temperatures may get cold enough for a few snowflakes to
fly, mainly north and west of Indianapolis, but expect little
impact from this as recent warm temperatures have likely made
roads and sidewalks warm enough to melt any snow as it falls.

A substantial temperature gradient exists across the front, and
expect temperatures to drop quickly as it passes. Ongoing cold
advection overnight should bring lows down into the 20s
northwest, to the low 30s southeast.

.SHORT TERM /Sunday through Wednesday/...

The vast majority of the short term period will be dry and quiet,
with temperatures likely to recover relatively quickly in the wake
of the cold front as midlevel ridging nudges back westward and
broad warm advection reestablishes ahead of the next trough over
the northern and central plains.

Models show another low pressure system developing and moving into
the Great Lakes late in the period, although there are some fairly
significant differences in resultant surface reflection and
precipitation. Will go ahead and stick with the NBM low pops late
Monday night into early Tuesday. Should be warm enough for this to
fall as all rain.

.LONG TERM /Tuesday Night through Saturday/...

The weather pattern is set to become more active during the
extended with growing potential for some wintry mischief by late
week into next weekend as progressively colder air is drawn into
the region.

Much of the early part of the week will be quiet with high
pressure across the area. An upper wave tracking across the upper
Midwest will interact with low pressure and moisture being pulled
north...but the entire system is likely to remain out of phase.
The result will be just a low threat for mainly light
precipitation Wednesday and Wednesday night. High pressure will
then reestablish on Thursday with the initial shot of colder air
from the northwest.

Late week into the weekend presents an interesting and complicated
scenario that could provide a period with a wintry mix and/or
predominantly snow as the retreating colder airmass interacts
with the storm system. As is to be expected at this stage...plenty
of disagreement exists with respect to the track of the system
which will be a huge factor in determining precip type. Primary
impacts from the system likely come late Friday into Saturday.

After a mild start to the extended with highs in the 50s
Wednesday...more seasonable temperatures are expected late week
into the weekend with highs in the 30s to lower 40s and lows in
the 20s.

Making adjustments this afternoon based on current obs. Frontal
boundary has shifted back east of KBMG and KIND since 18Z with
gusts redeveloping. Sub-IFR ceilings will continue into the
evening.

18Z discussion follows.

Poor flying conditions will continue through tonight...low
ceilings linger into Sunday.

Low pressure tracking through the area late this morning which has
led to variable wind direction and a drop in wind speeds at all
terminals now behind the boundary. Periodic rain will continue
through much of the rest of the afternoon and into the evening as
the low tracks across the area. Wind direction should eventually
align from the W/NW at the terminals by late day with gusts likely
returning this evening into the overnight as a tighter surface
pressure gradient develops on the back side of the departing
system. Precipitation will end this evening as the low lifts into
the eastern Great Lakes.

Ceilings have popped up to VFR periodically late this morning but
model soundings suggest a gradual lowering back to MVFR and IFR
ceilings at all four terminals as the afternoon progresses.
Despite precipitation ending by late evening...a lingering low
level inversion will persist into Sunday with stratus at
1000-2000ft continuing through midday Sunday.

Outlook: Heavy rain and flooding, windy conditions and isolated
thunderstorms.

Hazards: Flooding of low lying areas and along rivers and streams.
         Wind gusts over 40 mph.
         Lightning and gusty winds in thunderstorms.

Timing: Heavy rain and flooding at times today. Windy conditions
through late tonight. Lightning through early evening. Thunderstorms
with gusty winds through early evening.

Discussion: A low pressure system will bring widespread rain and
windy conditions to central Indiana.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday.

Outlook: River flooding will develop and persist into next week. Snow
is possible late next week. Little or no accumulation is expected at
this time.

Discussion: High pressure will briefly bring dry weather to central
Indiana Sunday and Sunday night. More rain and later snow is possible
as more weather systems move in next week.
